I've been looking for a good horror game lately, whether it be a shooter, mystery/puzzle, or anything.
Went through a few of my old games (especially doom 3, one of my fav's) and tried out some ones I missed, like FEAR and Bioshock, while both were great games and had me jumping at times, they just weren't doing it for me.
Well I went and picked up Dead Space today, and holy crap I am amazed not only by the creepy atmosphere and scare moments, but also the creativity as far as a horror shooter game goes.
I love the combat as well, no more just blasting at whatever comes at you, seems like ammo is scarce, and since body shots do next to no damage I gotta take that extra 2-5 seconds to aim for a limb and hopefully blow it off.
Has anyone else tried this game and agree with me? Anything you like in particular, or don't like?

I haven't played it myself but a friend of mine has it and I watched him play for a few hours the other night...I have to say that it looks like a pretty fun game, and very well done from a story-telling standpoint...the UI is particuarly impressive, I really like the way they have it so that your suit and the computer consoles in the game are essentially all the UI you could ask for.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
wasnt bioware a horror game? And what about fear?

Bioware? Bioshock you mean?
Dead Space is closer to Doom. I don't really think Bioshock is scary at all, just dark, but Dead Space definitely re-realized what Doom was all about. I think its a great comparison.
It's been a great week for games so I haven't played a ton of Dead Space yet, but the lack of a UI beyond system settings and everything being in-game does a lot for immersion and the fear-factor.

I agree, the way they came up with the UI and interacting with the environment and such is amazingly creative

Doom 3 wasn't a horror game. It was an annoying game. I am not horrified when I walk through a doorway and die, and then proceed to walk through said doorway backwards, watch the monster that killed me in a few hits appear, and blow its head off with a shotgun. ANNOYING. I can't avoid it by being smart and looking out for my surroundings, because it teleported in. I can't avoid it the first time becuase it teleported in. I can't be hurt by it the second time because its a one trick pony.
Seriously, play a real horror classic. System Shock 2. Silent Hill series.
Thinking about picking this one up soon. It looks better than a horror game - it looks really fun.

ROFL,
I played it for a bit, I couldn't even tell where I was going, the least of my worries were the monsters.
Dead Space is a story about an archeological team that uncovered an alien relic. However, that relic came alive and possessed people of the team. Hmm Sounds familiar.
Lol thats amazing in a way for me
Yup and it's a very welcome surprise aswell, didn't read/see much about the game, just a trailer and a interview on gametrailers, was in the impression of it being another DOOM type of clone game, but for me so far ( chapter 4) it's more then what Doom offered, very immersive from a visual point of view aswell the sounds effects/atmosphere are truly well done, like others said the way the UI or better yet lack of it works is great.
I often end up shooting corpses on the ground, as in the beginning some of those corpse weren't as dead as they looked laying on the ground.
