2 boxing?

trumpedtrumped Member Posts: 2

I used to 4box in eq. I played it since beta and just recently quit before Oow. I spent a couple years solo, spent a while 2box then moved to 4boxing. I loved having so many different options. I plan to start out 2boxing in eq2 (preordered 2). How are the hotkeys? How will this game differ from eq 2boxing? Any insight would be appreciated.

Glad to be here!  I've been reading these boards for quite some time now, but this is my first post.  With that said, I'd just like to say that I enjoy all the posts that I've read so far!  Keep them going!

Now, with that said I'd just like to know how in the world someone can play four accounts at one time??  That sounds very confusing, and expensive!  I have a friend who says he plays EQ with three different computers at once, and everytime I think of him I envision him sitting in a room with a set of headphones on, wearing some home made wizard costume he made outta an old robe and a burger king hat, and typing with his hands and feet frantically trying to keep up with the pace of the game!  Whew it makes me tired just thinking about it hehe.  But while he is an antisocial player and a control freak who wants to not only be in charge of his group, but to BE his group, I admire his dedication and love for EQ.

So after reading your post stating that you "four box" the original EQ, I must congratulate you for being the biggest dork...errr, I mean EQ fan I've ever met!  Okay okay, I'm just kidding around and giving you a hard time.  I'm a dork too!  Heck you gotta be kinda dorky to even lurk these boards hehe.  But it's all good!  All I can say is I wish you the best of luck when you get EQ!  I for one don't have the ability to keep up with four boxes, so I'll just play one.  But I'll do my best to play my one account to the best of my ability!  See you in the game!

In EQ1 You could run two copies of eq on one computer, and just alt tab. I don't expect to be able to do this in eq2, and that wasn't my question. Also I am 30+, have many rl friends that play, and when we hooked up, we would all try to bring as much power as possible. It really isn't that hard, it's just like playing Baulders Gate or something, where you control more than one character. EQ had a nice hotkey configuration though, Where you could tell a character to assist then cast, then sit etc, I was wondering if this is possible in eq2.

I haven't played with macros that much, but they aren't robust enough to play a second character for you.

EQ2 is not like EQLive where you could 2, 3, 4 box, etc. You could maybe do it on wimpy solo mobs, but to do anything worthwhile requires to much interaction, and attention to be able to effectively bounce back and forth between 2+ characters. No more hitting autoattack, and getting a drink. Unless you like corpse runs.

So I wouldn't worry about 2 boxing. I'm sure SOE would be more than happy for you to try, but you' be wasting not only your time, but your $15 a month as well.

2 boxing and yet 4 boxing isnt as hard as you might think cj. Basically every class has a role in eq1. Healer, slower, tank, dpser's etc etc... Each character having their own window or box. When something is pulled click on your tank and taunt, slower and slow... switch to healer and watch heals and on and on. It is busy work but not difficult for veteran players who know the game and classes well. I myself 4 boxed at lans and at a gaming center on other peoples accounts when they were sleeping or just by myself some days cause getting a group as a mage wasnt easy.

Everyone has their motives. Moogard did mention that 2 boxing in eq2 would be much more difficult if not impossible. Cant recall where the post is and im out of time at work to look it up for you. Goto his posts and look it up =).

I two-boxed for a long time in EQ1. Got a warrior and druid up from like level 30 to 50 that way, playing mostly with just that duo. Around level 40 I moved four-boxing more (two friends' accounts that they didn't use a lot but were still paying for). I four-boxed with a warrior, cleric, druid, and enchanter.

It's really not that bad... it's all in the set up. The most active player is the puller, so you just sit at that computer. Arrange the other computers around with keyboards real close together. Set up a bunch of macros on each of the casters for heals, slows, debuffs, nukes, etc. Set up a macro on all of them that will stand them up and follow the warrior in case they need to run. Druid has evac spell macroed and keeps SoW and group regen on everyone; enchanter keeps clarity on the casters.

I had the caster macros timed perfectly for the cast time of the spell, then they'd sit immediately to med. With nukes I would have them stand a bit longer to avoid aggro. Buffs are the only times you really need to do manual casting (but even the common ones you could macro if you want). The mob would sometimes nail the casters, but thats why the main char is a warrior. Made quick keys so the druid would heal the cleric and the cleric would heal all the others too.

    /stand
    /assist Warrior
    /cast Nuke
    /pause xx
    /sit

    /stand
    /target Warrior (or whoever)
    /cast Heal
    /pause xx
    /sit

Or something like that. My memory is fuzzy now.

It was actually very fun and challenging to multitask like that.

You know, I should correct myself! I don't really think that my friend is a control freak who wants to BE his group. Hehe, that is an attribute that would prolly best describe ME! :-) I guess I just trip off his ability to even do that at all! He is a pretty social guy in the game I'd wager, as he's always in a guild (although I consider myself a very very social player as well). Anyway, I felt like I kinda took an unfair jab at my friend hehe. Sorry if it came across the wrong way..

I'm sure there will be some that will 2 or 3 box, and do it well.  Though we must remember, as one stated earlier, you don't just point and click, there will be numerous things one must do in order to defeat a mob.  How one goes about juggling a few accts. will be through lots of pratice and using macros I'm sure.  Time will tell, but I"m sure there will be some that can do it.

    Cheers

I constantly shadow boxed my clr/mnk duo all the time it is great for leveling and camping and questing. During raids would just play what ever char was needed most.

I would also love to do this in EQ2 as it proved to be a great help to friends questing that mighta needed a puller or healer, was just great to have the versatilty of 2 good high lvl's to be of most help to myself friends and my guild.

Not sure how involved the combat system will be but it is too boring to just pve in a point and click system need at least 2 chars to keep ya busy and entertained :P
