WoW vs. EQ2 review.

heres a site that shows which is better in 10 catagories, in someone elses opinion.

Please take the time to read the whole thing, even tho it is long. It really shows the qualitys of both games and for those people unsure what game to play, this could make your choice.

    XII. Player Versus Player
    This is another very difficult category to rate. Initially, this category was all WoW. However, after Blizzard announced that PvP would be consensual on its normal servers, I can't in good faith give either game this category. Both games will allow for duels, both games will allow for group duels, and both games allow players to duel for items or money. They both will have arena type settings. WoW will also have what appear to be instanced zones on their normal servers where players can enter and PvP. PvP is not in the current build of WoW, so I can't say that what has been reported will be the case. Both games will also feature some sort of PvP special rules set servers. The special rules sets result from both games having two distinct sides, EQ2 having the conflict between good and evil, WoW having the conflict between Alliance and Horde. The key difference here is that Blizzard will have these servers at launch while EQ2 will not have these servers until some undetermined time after launch. In retrospect, I award this category to WoW, because their PvP servers will be available day one of retail.

    How could you barely give this to WoW! He argues that PvP will be consensual on it's normal servers, and that it is a bad thing, yet he thinks it will be open PvP on EQ2's normal servers? That's assuming EQ2 will ever actually have PvP(which they never said they will for sure, so he pulled the "dueling for money" out of his ass).

    This was the only category that WoW won, too, btw.

    I know you are looking foward to EQ2 more than WoW, I am too, but this has FANBOY written all over it. ::::12::

    I do not think you read this very well if you think it has a "fanboy" sense to it. He talks about his experience and he isnt a eq fanboy. The pvp in eq2 is yet to be announced, they just will not have pvp upon launch, and neither will wow cept for pvp servers. So that is why neither can win. He didnt play the wow pvp system or neither the soon eq2 system (if they do make pvp). On other issues obvioulsy EQ2 won. I think this is one of the best previews I have read, and I am not against WoW by any means. I just prefer EQ2. But this preview did make me lean alot more to eq2.

    I would like to see this again when it is updated. He reviewed this after playing when the lvl cap was 39 for WoW. A lot of things have changed. It would mean a lot more when everything was up to date.

    Ya I agree, I think he should do it right before release again. Then it could help some people decisions. I noticed that too about the lvl 39 cap, I looked for a date on the review but I didnt see one.

    Also it would be nice to see him update again because at that time EQ2 had just started beta recently. So alot could have changed for both games.

    Exactly. I find both games to be appealing. Would be nice to see it reviewed again once they were both in retail.

    I am leaning strongly toward EQ2... and I got a very positive feeling from this review.

    Positively Biased!

    He was clearly trying to compare EQ2 in a favorably light against WoW.

    He mentioned duels and arenas in EQ2 - but I believe SOE has said there will be NO duels, arenas, or PvP of any kind at release. If there's been new info, let me know.

    SoE hasnt talked about duels at all, so I really do not know. He isnt going to be biased at something like this. He works for IGN site or w/e.

    No, SOE has said there will be NO pvp of ANY kind in release. None at all, duels, arena, or open pvp on any server. That quote alone makes this 'review' void since it obviously is based on assumptions instead of actual facts.

    Well I guess no duels then ::::05::. But this review wasnt based only on PVP. Look at other issues, there are another 9.

    Thats incorrect, pvp has been on the normal WoW beta server for months. All WoW servers will feature some sort of PvP unless they designate a PvE only server.

    Not the battle ground tho, at launch there will be no pvp grounds. Only duels and arenas I think.

    Okay for me gameplay = NUMBER ONE, graphics, character customization, and silly categories like "tutorial" (LOL) come last. Graphics amaze me, but they won't amaze me for more than a few days. Gameplay lasts a long time, and that is what the game survives on. PvP == Gamplay for me, I haven't played either of the games but if I was to buy solely on that review I would have chosen wow, primarily because of PvP. Because of the way I am, I am not keen on leveling for weeks or craft items to kill more monsters and do more quests in the end, while talking to my chaps on how realistic the particle effects looked in the fireball. Also I'm a fan of faction vs faction wars. Thus I am actually looking more towards DnL.

    Also, I understand that the definition of gamplay differs from person to person, I simply view it as how fun it is to play the game. And no "Tutorial" is not gameplay.

    Tutorial is 1/10 catagories. I think gameplay is very important, and imo EQ2 will win in PVE gameplay. Also neither game is out yet so it is hard to judge either game.

    I don't really like PvE, in most games I played it is rather a chore, I'd fight a real player rather than a grizzly bear any day. And if there isn't GOOD PvP, I have no where to look forward to when I level up since there isn't any player competition. And yes, PvE also means "adventures" or "KwEsTs" but nearly every mmorpg has that, only in some games it involves breaking into a dungeon to rescue princess X, and in some to storm a castle with 3 to 1 odds against you image

    Anyway, the only way for me to decide which game is more fun is to play both of them. But if EQ2 is over priced, which requires steep comp requirements as it is, I might not get the chance to.

    Lol the review wasnt from the eq2 site, they just posted the review on their site. DO you think that blizzard would post that on their site? lol the guy that did the review was for IGN, ign is for eq2 and wow.

    Actually that review is 100% BS. DeathStryker "claimed" to have played WoW when in actuality he's never played it in his life (ok maybe he might have played the Stress Test but that review was written months before the WoW ST). DS accidentally admitted to have never played WoW in one of his posts a few weeks later...

    Discredit that review 100%. Hell seeing how I'm in both WoW Beta and EQ2 Beta I could write a much better review then that.

    To be honest I do agree with most of his points.. but saying that WoW PvP is only a little better makes the whole review worthless.

    I never thought of him biased and I think you are cause you want to feel your game is THE best choice. But least I KNOW I am biased while I seriously am thinking you don't.

    I suggest laying of the pipe for awhile.

    Heck I am biased and even I said the only thing I don't like is the models so far.. oh and that I HATE SOE.

    First off, that review was written MONTHS ago (and DS's statement occurred a few weeks later). Secondly, I'm not going to look up all his posts from all the way back in June just to prove my point. If you want to go look for the proof yourself, be my guest.

    And besides, the IGN Vault community already knew that review was 100% BS to begin with when in his first edition of it, he claimed that WoW didn't have any PvP at all (he of course edited it out a few hours later when everyone saw his mistake).
