[Poll] World of Warcraft gamers: What is your age?

Whether you are a veteran who has been playing a long time or a new one just starting out, please select the appropriate age group that fits you. I am not trying to encourage or discourage anything, nor am I trying to insult or compliment any certain age group for that matter. It is just a informative poll.

Thank you!

Out of curiosity, why did you pick these age ranges? They seem very unusual.

No particular reason really. There are only 10 slots per poll, and I wanted to be accurate as possible. So, with 10 slots, I worked with what I could. I know it may not be perfect, and I do apologize for any type of confusion. It was just the best I could come up with.

If people will answer honestly, this will be an interesting poll.  Unfortunately, you ARE polling human beings, who sadly, have a tendency to lie.

That being said, it's also only reflective of the age of WoW players who also visit this forum site, so that does narrow the field down quite a bit.  Plus,  you also have to account for all of the people that for whatever twisted reason, think that WoW's player base is all children, and in a sad effort to prove their "point," they will answer the poll with an age that will skew the results so they can say, "Naa nanny boo boo....I told you so."

Sad that I've been around these forums long enough now to know you have to be THAT suspicious of people's integrity, or lack thereof, over something as simple as a poll.

Seriously,  everyone in my guild who I play wow with is over 18.  Most are in college, some like me are older but yea, i bet the true average age is somewhere around 20 for most guilds.

Interesting that most people who have answered the question have also replied, however the person who claims to be under 12 did not.  I just thought that was interesting. wink.

I'm 25 and most everyone in my guild(over 400 people) are between 22-35, someone actually took about a month long poll to find the average last year. Though I do see people, who I assume to be 12, spamming general frequently, I don't usually see people like that in groups.

Tried: Vanguard, UO, Rappelz, Archlord, RF Online, SWG, WAR, Ryzom, Anarchy Online, AC, APB, STO, Perfect World, Black Prophecy...

Played: EQ,EQII, Lineage, Lineage 2, GW, EVE Online, AoC, DoAC, iRO, AC2, WoW, SWTOR, Runes of Magic, Allods, Rift..
    Currently Playing: Tera

I think you'd be surprised to see the age of some of those spammers.  Maturity does not have an age limit nor an age requirement.

In my guild, we have a age limit of 17, If someone joins, they must talk to us on vent, or send us a picture with them saying 'Hello [guild which i wont name] from [Their name]'

Because quite frankly, we dont want 12year olds in our vent and/or guild

This poll must be a fix because everyone knows that every player of WoW is under 15yo and has never played any other MMO ever [/sarcasm] ;-)

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Isn't that the truth, people don't think the term child or kid applies to them because they have had their 18th birthday.

Children under the age of 12 have no grasp of the mechanics used in Wow.

As a matter of fact, even in the age bracket of 13 to 15 year olds, those who follow practice schools don't follow the game either.

I've noticed this with the friends of my son. Most like shooters and play on the PS.

Only those following the more demanding study options (Latin, maths, etc) are into MMORPG's. For the rest it's too complicated and they just want mindless shooters.

One exception: I think WAR and its rather simplistic head bashing in scenarios adresses the immature kind of PvP players. That's why no one speaks in that game

And as this poll shows (before being invaded en mass by the Wow haters), about 85% of all players is above 18. The younger and immature people play for 10 days and go on, telling the game sucks

The oldest in our guild is 61 and my father plays it at the age of 78. So I am not surprised by the 85% above 18.

Not sure i agree to the "Only those following the more demanding study options" statement fits everyone. I myself never studied that stuff nor have an interest in it, nor do many of my friends that play and they play pretty damn well. Yet MMORPG's are by far my favorite genre to play. Anything RPG oriented for that matter. Never could get into FPS's, sure they're fun for a while but they get old quick. At least with an RPG you have different paths to follow instead of "Here's a gun, go kill that bastard over there".

You're right. I am talking about the age bracket of 13 to 15 year old. Not the adult market of course.

Youngsters under the age of 16 I was talking about.

    Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Ah, that makes more sence then. RPG's tend to take alot more thinking on the part of the player and most of the younger crowd just wants instant gratification in their games. Go here and shoot the hell out of this guy is about as instant as you can get. It's another reason why i don't like games that are all about hack and slash, Doesn't take much to spam a button to kill the guy you're faceing.

What's wrong with hack&slash - it doesn't have anything to do with the maturity of those who like the genre.
Take Diablo series for example - it's pure hack&slash, but it's also pure fun ! And fun, I believe: is the single and the most important thing of any forms of entertainment. This is very subjective and merely a matter of taste.

I don't like the stereo-typing of certain genre (in this case: FPS and hack and slash) being associated to certain age bracket, just as much as I don't like the generalisation the media give on how bad influences video game can bring.

I am 29, and had been a fan of many kinds of game genre - including, but not limited to: FPS.
How mindless / complex a game is really limited to the person playing it. Team Fortress 2 can be your simple, mindless FPS - anyone with any skill can roll Heavy or Pyro and mow people down. But it takes more than those two classes to win. Want a challenge and serious fun ? Play a Spy.

Then what about Portal ? It's an FPS, but is it mindless ?
Give it a shoot if you haven't played it, it's cheap in Steam.

My capabilities as a Priest in WoW is heavily influenced by my past experiences in FPS:
    - making snap judgement in a critical situation - juggling between who to heal, managing threat, timing heals, preserving mana and sometimes providing cc
    - positioning: moving around, strafing away from raid bosses doing AoE damage
    - being a team player: the ability to listen and follow instructions
    - leadership: being able to provide instructions and being responsible for it
    - being able to plan tactics and adjusting them at time of execution

Never said there was anything wrong with hack and slash. I just stated i didn't much care for it. If it came off like only younger people like it, that's not what i meant.

Would have to disagree to a certain extent as all of my sons play the game. My 8 & 9yo boys have no problem following the game when they play together on seperate accounts. They quest, they group with others and apart from a little help with talents and auctions they pretty much free play without too many problems. My 8yo has more interest in the game than the 9yo who does prefer driving/flash games, but this is just personal preference. They do not spend huge amounts of time on the game and only have mid-level characters, but this is because i prefer them to persue other activities as well as games.

My 13 & 14yo (been playing for 3 years) boys take advantage of many more of the games options as they organize raids, BG's etc and both have L70 characters as well as a firm understanding of the game machanics as a whole. They do of course enjoy their shooters too (counterstrike, wolfenstein etc..), but they spend about equal times doing both when they are on the computers.

None of my children are in advanced education and their undersanding of the game just comes from some basic computer knowledge, some initial coaching and common sense.

I would really hate to perpertuate the misnomer that WoW is a 'kids' game, but it does show that the game has a very wide age range as the oldest person i have played alongside was 76, so an almost 70 year age range in just my own personal experience is pretty impressive.

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

    Agree.

I remember being in a guild where the GM was 30 something with two kids, and he had this huge argument with a 14 year old calling him all kinds of things under the sun over some petty issue. Needless to say half the guild quit that day. It was despicable to see a father of that age speaking to a child that was possibly the same age as his own children in such a manner.

This is an intresting post.  Thanks for making it.

This topic has peaked my intrist.  I wonder if you will be posting the results soon.  (maybe i missed that part)

I'm 31 and lead a 19 twink guild that challenges the top guilds on Stormstrike.  I have around 40 players and require Ventrilo.  We mandate Ventrilo in order to gauge prospective members maturity.  I can provide that i have a teen member who acts FAR more mature than some 25+ members.  Infact one teen found himself in my admin staff as 2nd in command.  My 3rd in command is 40+.  This was due to the fact the teen originaly prompted me to open the guild to the public but imeediatly engaged in administrative duties.

I must admit, i identify this young man with my addults among the guild though he is far younger than most members.  He graduated High school and imeediatly found a job wich conflicts with gametime, but that in itself demonstrates his maturity.

I'm not sure how this topic will eventuate, but i'm sure intristed.
