sure, there are only very few informations about the new star wars online game from bioware/lucasarts, they released the basic game-FAQ , the base of the game architecture:
Can I play alone?
While there are some tasks that cannot be completed without the cooperation of others, the majority of the game can be accomplished by playing alone.
How does Star Wars: The Old Republic differ from other MMO titles?
We at BioWare and LucasArts believe there is a fourth pillar: Story. Our mission is to create the best story-driven games in the world. We believe that the compelling, interactive storylines in Star Wars: The Old Republic are a significant innovation to MMOs and will offer an entertainment experience unlike any other.
this sound for me much more like a single-player game. why should i buy a online game (mmorpg) without, or with very few, group content and with the mainfocus at the storyline? a storyline focus will bring in instances, zones etc. and a gameplay like in a theme park. in addition this a well known concept of the SOE star wars game: level 1-90 nearly solo playable. boring.
technical:
mushy textures and no anti-aliasing: sorry this is just stoneage. they should concentrate on upper mid-/ highend and not on lowend machines.

im guessing it wont be the same game as pre-CU SWG, the SWG vets now have nothing to look forward to, maybe DF, but no more star wars sandboxes :P
i love the huge amount of speculation thats already going on
btw, OP, no AA? rofl. u are judging some concept art :> u cant say a thing about textures and certainly not about AA. also, if they emphasize on story where do u read that grouping is not significant in the game? u CAN be right, but u wont know for months :> lol
MMOs currently playing: -
About to play: Lord of the Rings Online
Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)
Firstly OP, the game isn't even reached Beta stage and your critisising it not having AA. Give it chance.
Secondly, The 1up.com blog states that Bioware have said that they won't be enforcing grouping, but will encourage it.
It sounds like the "companions" are more to do with the players storyarc than the players actual interaction with the server community. Its wholely possible that the players story (his / her reasons for doing what they do) will have no connection with actual player interaction and only comes into play when the player interacts with NPC's.

3:17 Scooter: "you can play on your own, but we're going to encourage you to be social; we're not goin gto force grouping, but we aim to encourage" -Ohlen
3:18 Scooter: the companion character is also an element to making oyu feel part of the story
3:18 Scooter: COMPANIONS ARE NOT PETS
..
3:33 Scooter: any benefit to not having a companion?
3:33 Scooter: ther emight be an achievement for not having one
3:34 Scooter: "we want to reveal over tiem what we're doing"
Thirdly, as for the art, it wouldn't surprise me if the textures are low res for the moment to faciltate clean testing of the features of the game. We'll perhaps see more higher res texturing and adjustments to proportions later on.
Top 10 Most Misused Words in MMO's
you are sure i cant? why they showing screenshots with this average quality? if i promote a product i show it in the optimal state. i think they do the same. this havening nothing to do with conceptual or alpha shots... during the development phase there will be not a significant change in the general graphic quality. just look at eve online and you see: they haveing since release AA problems. i know a few other online games with the same issues.
btw: my source for the quotes is IGN.com
If i found out this is just another WoW-clone (classes, levels, doing quests).......then i wont takle another look at it from now.
I really hopes its not another MMO dream crusher for the sake of quick development and no brain put into it.
An NGE sequel? Ridiculous thread title. The only point of this thread is to stir the pot. In reality, the changes between now and release are completely unpredictable, and more importantly inevitable.
I would wait until you can get a hands on look at a semi-finished product before you start the banter. Otherwise it's duly noted that you choose not to play this based on a few screens before the game has really even come into production.
Classes, levels and quests is what constitute a WoW clone these days?
Interesting, it seems even EQ and the first MMO's were even WoW clones...we truly are doomed before we've started.
No, it will be very different.

hmm, i was going to say EQ-clone. But EQ atleast had some challance for the player. WoW is made for the lowest challence possible. Everyone can play it without breaking a sweat.
And if that is the case with SWTOR.......what a waste!
Bur we all hopw it will be a good MMO. Because weneed more of those.
It's going to be a typical Bioware game with a Star Wars skin. I suspect it will play much like KoTOR, with an online presence, and updated story arcs.
Tecmo Bowl.
Just because someone can play through the game alone does not make it a single player game.
In the original EQ you could level up to max level all by yourself. You could not, however, do raids or kill names without a group/raid unless you already were twinked out.
I'm hoping that this is how TOR will be.
So if an MMO has classes and quests it's a clone of (insert other MMO name here)?
Maybe that's what MMO's are?
You are playing a video game. By definition that means you are not hardcore.
well its not a single player game, it just has more single player content.
I think you might be getting a bit hastey OP. Consider the fact they said the majority of hte game can be completed alone. It didnt say ONLY alone. It also stated that you will need COOPERATIVE play through SOME of the game (almost like RAIDS). I think people are just looking for a reason to scream FAIL since thats all SOE could accomplish.
Plenty of MMO's have "solo" content or just are SOLO player friendly even though its not exactly the easiest route to take, yet they didnt have lightsabres as badass as this game will have =D
So WoW is story-driven and uses companions?
Sorry, at this early stage that kind of judgement is rediculous

I think he ment *if i find out*. Mainly yfocusing on the core mechanics of the game do they call games clones of one another. Such as the vast similarities between mechanics of LOTRO, DAOC, WoW, SUN, EQ2, DRAGON9, FURY, WAR and quite a few others.
And yes, making a judgement thisearlier is rediculous.
Here's a quote from the devs:
"BioWare is just as committed to supporting the types of gameplay seen in any of the current top-tier MMOs like World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online or The Lord of the Rings Online. In doing so, they're hoping to build on the systems they've already created in their single-player games."
Let's hope it's not going to be another WoW clone, but it isn't looking promising ...

Sums up my feelings about SWG pretty well
That's pretty much where I am at the moment. From what has been spoken about I have very little faith that they (Bioware) aren't going to focus much on those feature, however. Crafting, personal property (dwellings, land vehicles, ships) and other areas not Combat and Story probably will be functional and best and lacking any real depth. To me that makes it a "game" like all the rest of the theme-park offerings since WoW and not a "world" like SWG pre nge, UO and even EQ to an extent were. I'm personally tired of theme-park games but the easy to please mmo gaming masses apparently aren't so companies will keep grinding them out.
Part of what made those old games great to me was they got the player to invest in the game world. These newer games don't in my opinion for the majority of gameplay. They are like microwave turkey dinners. I much prefer a full course thanksgiving dinner that starts being cooked the night before. You can certainly taste the difference in the two.

Don't sweat it daarco, it's bioware! Now, I know you're a fan of Darkfall (if I'm not mistaken), as am I, and surely this won't be the same. But it'll be a good game. I never liked WoW myself, but Bioware isn't going to make a WoW clone.
