So I am trying Vanguard's 14 day trial and what a fresh breath of air. Granted I havent leveled to high but its nice to see a game with so much freedom. The game is a little demanding compared to others but visually nice. With the way the environment is, the character customizing, all the class and race varieties, the ability to negotiate and plenty of emotes, this game could have been a Role players paradise. To bad it will never catch on since the launch was so bad. Also, even though there doesnt seem to be a ton of ppl playing...most the time you do get answers to your questions from people. The community seems friendly especially after coming from WoW and Warhammer. Its been awhile since i logged onto a game and havent wanted to log out after 10 minutes.

Vanguard has grown into something decent. It is also worth noting that the average computer has gotten a little more powerful and Vanguard has streamlined some code so some of the graphics intensive requirements from launch are more mainstream.
At any rate, I always say...
There is very little reason to buy a game when it launches these days.
If you wait a few months you pay far less for the box, get more content, have a better and less crowded entry/noob zone, fewer bugs, more detailed forums, and you get to see which servers are thriving.
Starting at launch is usually the result of a 'race to the top' mentality, impatience, or a guild/friends decision.
They offer preorder and founder bonuses for a reason
I don't play Vanguard any more (for reasons I won't elaborate upon) but it is worth looking at for people who enjoy an EQ-style experience
which one is the best roleplaying game so far then?
Ultima Online, PURE bliss. You can dress up into almost anything, Girls can wear guy clothes and vice versa. Everything you can think of, it might just be in UO.
thanks for the answer csthao, another one with more updated grafics?
So far, Id say WAR myself... but NO one has yet to match the joys of PlanetSide in it's prime.

The best Role-playing game in my opinion is Lotro, where you can wear other-gender clothes as well Player made music, beggers in Bree, Costume system, emotes and most importantly - a role-playing community.
I'd say none of them cater for true roleplaying experience. In my opinion you need more than a seperate server to achieve this. The only 3d game I'm aware of that is in development that is trying to cater soley for roleplayers is Adellion. Actually there is also another one that has just been announced, called Lythelian but it's also volunteer based so I wouldn't expect to see that one for an extremely long time. Ofcourse there are RPI muds but I cannot seem to get into them.
