It is a PvE game, but will apparently have a PvP server and some limited PvP on the PvE server.
As I have understood it, the content is quest based - like most games now-a-day. Clothing, weapons, armour and jewelry is basicly just for show.
As for loot which affects your character, you want sigil stones. you have x amount of sigil slots based on your level (save for jewelry, which has its own slots). Sigils can be traded out as you please, just like normal loot. If you look at the core of this system, sigils are just like normal items you find in other games, save for one major difference - they dont appear on your avatar. So you can run nekked if you want and still have all the bonuses the next full plate armour guy has. You have full freedom over your characters cosmetics.
As for your other questions.. I think they are still under NDA and cant be answered right now...
oh i see. sounds pretty cool.
the sigil system sound pretty awsome
thanks for the help

Well actually it's both. Shard conquest/house pvp was originally on the boards fro the start but was put on hold till post release. PvP in the resource areas (as in the ONLY place to get the resources) has always been in, and an in depth arena (apparently limited in features till post release.. Also before anyones claims this means it's def more of a pve game... a chunk of pve stuff is limited till post release to).
And in regards to player interest, if you look at the official forums you'll see that the pvp forum is sitting at almost 3x the posts of the pve form. Now I know this is no firm judge of the matter (I'm sure the pvers will claim it's just a small num of pple posting many times) but it seems that the potential player base has from the start been more interest in pvp... so hardly suprising that the devs have decided to create open pvp servers. Would not be suprised if the first new post release features will be the pvp stuff that the promised years ago.
Just coz it's got a really strong pve ai does not mean that this is just another pve game with pvp 'tacked on the side' like WoW.
It's strongly PVE driven. I say this because it has a LOT of PVE content and lore.
I know they say their focus is on both but really to be fair its more on Combat, Class balance, and PVE.
We obviously do not have equal amount of pvp content.
I wish they would abandon tradition and focus more on pvp. After all, they not going to have raiding. Whjat will pve'ers do when they hit max level? Crawl dungeons for better looking pants?
I just never seen a game with perfect foundation for PVP and kinda blow it by focusing so much on PVE. It's not like their PVE is gonna be anything earth shattering right? Just smarter creatures and more responsive AI. Thats good.
But will still be linear quests which we've seen too much of (well speaking for myself here)
I wish there were no PvP server. PvP'ers hop from game to game and complain and moan about the balance of the characters until they completly run the game into the ground. PvP'ers are like an mmo cancer.
Lets divert a little bit and look at AoC. What were the majority of patches about? If you dont know I will tell you. While I played which was 2 months 75% of the patch was about some tweaking/nerfing of the classes. AoC had way bigger issues that needed worked on before they even thought about touching the classes. I can give an perfect example of this with my necro if to many flammers come out.
PvP'er should just wait for their beloved Darkfall, because I highly doubt that TCOS will apease you, for the simple fact that it seems TCOS was made with PvE in mind, and PvP servers added as a ploy to get more subs.
I can assure you that I wont go to darkfall and say anything about the PvE because it is PvP based. So I pose a question why cant PvP'ers come to a PvE game and not complain about PvP? Its like going to an Italian restraunt and complaining that their mexican food is sub-par. There is just somthing majorly wrong here.
(From my understanding TCOS is a PvE game with casual PvP with PvP servers for the "hardcore" PvPer's, my assumptions are based on this idea.)

AOc had other issues
i want darkfall too but i not one to complain if i dont like a game
i just dont play
AOc had other issues
"AoC had other issues"
Thats exactly my point, but what did the patches try to fix? the class balance. The forums were in an uproar about how OP this class was and how gimp that class was, melee vs magic dps etc etc etc. the list goes on and on. The majority of each patch was dedicated to tweaking the classes to satisfy the pvp'ers but after each patch the PvP'ers were not happy. The "other issues" needed adressed first over the class balance issues. The true PvP'ers demand that the classes be balanced from the get go and bombard the forums if they lose a PvP confrontation to the same class two times in a row. Rarly do they think "maybe he was better at playing his class than I am playing my class. Maybe I should change my approach to fighting that class." Nope its easier to bombard the forums calling for nerfs.
Just wait until Darkfall is released then go read the forums I would be willing to bet the farm that there is going to be 80% complain rate about how Op this skill is vs that skill. Mass hordes calling for nerfs and buffs. Never satisfied unless everyone wins, but we know thats not possible when 2 players engage in a pvp fight.
I will state my main point in every response so it will not get confused: True PvP'ers need to stay away from games that has a main focus of PvE with casual PvP thrown in. You will never be satisfied

I apologize if I have offended anyone but as you can tell I get very frustrated about MMO’s with a main focus of PvE trying to cater to the PvP’ers. I am all for fixing the imbalance of classes, but it must be done in the right way after game breaking PvE bugs are fixed. Balancing classes needs an in depth look at what the problem is. Is the problem the class, or is the problem people using the class in the wrong way leading to failure? There is a myriad of aspects involved in class balancing; it’s a daunting task in any MMO, and it’s never an easy/fast fix. Too many people don’t understand this.
To the OP I am sorry I diverted your topic so I will try to get it back on track.
So PVE? Discuss:

I understand your frustration, but I don't think this game will have the same problems that most MMO's have with balancing and such. It is so open ended as to what you can do with your skills that if you lose it is probably going to be the persons fault and not the balance issues. Also every class can do everything...so also don't have to worry about balancing that either, anyone can be a tank, healer, or ranged character.
I'm a pvper, but I generally get upset about the whiners that want balance as well...I've never been in an MMO where my character felt unbalanced...I just dealt with it. This game was never meant to be a PvE game....since the beginning it has been both a PvE and a PvP game, so I think the devs will be smart enough to know what to fix and what not to.
AoC was a game with "open pvp" where you could be attacked by anyone. Class balance WAS a big issue. AoC was advertised as a pvp game, remember? You cant have fun PVP if its not balanced.
Also I dont think it was only the "pvpers" that were whining on the forum, I think it was mostly the carebears getting ganked.
Anyway, I dont think AoC failure was caused by pvpers. Funcom did it by releasing an unfinished product, and hiding it behind a very cool 1-20 open beta (tortage) to fool everyone. When you release a game, it shouldnt have gamebreaking PVE bugs in it, thats what closed beta is for.
Umm no. I suggest you go back and read the early tcos forum info. Game has ALWAYS had pvp in mind and NOT JUST resource and arena pvp. There was orginally shard conquest and house vs house, both of which have been pushed back to post release. Hell some of the very first press viewings were just pvp ones... think one of them had a sword for 1st place.
"and PvP servers added as a ploy to get more subs."
Since this game has always had more interest from the pvp crowd I'm hardly supprised that pvp servers were added (and yes it will most likely bring more subs). Also since shard conquest and house vs house and some arena features are slated for post release, open pvp will make a welcome substitute till that content arrives.
You seem to also suggest that pvpers are the ones who moan the most about balance... allow me t opoint you in the direction of EQ where Tiglo and Furor (now blizz devs) bitch, moaned, threatened and ultimately crashed servers coz of 'pve balance' (some crap about SK/pala > war tanking, and other classes performance).
And that's not limited to EQ, even WoW (the so called KING of all things pve) suffers from carebear QQ. Warriors players crashed servers early in vanilla wow, and although player made server crashes are a thing of the past the QQ goes on and on. AND ALL THAT pver QQ does effect how the WoW classes are buffed nerfed.
If you want a PVE only game why dont you go play DDO or LOTRO? It's plain silly to get mad at the devs from aiming for broad appeal. There are already plenty of PVE focused MMOs however you choose to ignore them. So either keep crying or find another game.
You had your chance. Plenty of PVE focused MMOs have come out. DDO,LOTRO, Horizons, EQ2, and the list goes on and on. Now its our time. I expect soon Devs will get smart and stop trying to kick out all this content and focus more on dynamic content (player to player interaction)
Go play single player RPGs for PVE only experience because those days are long gone. Thats not the way to make $$$ in MMOs
Oh so the only reason WoW makes such huge money is because it is so massively based on PvP? Why should it always be PvErs should goto single player games to enjoy PvE? Why don't we say PvPers should stick to FPS games?
I am mainly a PvEr...why do I enjoy MMOs for PvE? Because online games tend to grow. You can group up with other players n enjoy the game.
When I play a PvE game I expect certain classes to be weaker...a healer should be weaker than a Warrior. But for the sake of PvP the healer should be able to go toe to toe with the Warrior. N have a fighting chance at winning...for the sake of balance.
In PvE that weaker healer would team up with that warrior to accomplish a task. Using their seperate skills to help each other. But for the sake of PvP balance, that healer should be able to accomplish everything that warrior can, without help.

Not even Team based FPS games like Team Fortress 2 does it work like that.
Classes are supposed to create a dependency between different players. For the purposes of PVP, the healer does not have to be able to defeat a Warrior in 1vs1 combat.
MMORPG PVP should be about *Teams* and balanced for Teams. Same way with FPS Class based games.
I enjoy BOTH PVe/PvP. I do not understand people that only enjoyed 1 aspect. I firmly believe single player RPGs vastly excel at PVE. FPS Excel at PvP. MMORPG is fairly decent at both. I play mmorpg for the mix
But if all I wanted was PVE I'd stick to single player personally. I do not understand 100% carebears and hope no sane dev tries to cater to that kind anymore. Vanguard and plenty of other games tried and flopped (granted, Vanguard had a pvp server but in their FAQs they clearly stated they were PVE centric)

I enjoy both PvE n PvP as well...moreso on the PvE part. But on your note that games such as VG that caters to the PvE crowd..could you list major success stories of pure PvP games that have done well? Shadowbane is one I can think of that didn't do so well.
Vanguard had alot of other issues that really had nothing to do with it's basic PvE content. As I have heard the same thing of Shadowbane. SO who fails here? The PvE or PvP community, or the devs for putting out crapalistic games?
But either way, that is no reason to keep telling the PvE community to stick to single player games. If we all did that, in all likelyhood the MMO market would dry up pretty fast.

This guy has got it. No way in hell should a healer have any shot in the world to go toe to toe with a warrior. But in todays mmo market it has to be balanced so it smudges the lines.
For PvP to work right the game MUST be designed with a PvP focus in mind. It just doesnt work with a PvE based game with PvP thrown in. However very few companies do this because the "true" PvP fanbase is a small group. Dont believe me? AoC a suposidly PvP based game had three times more PvE servers than PvP servers at release. The majority of games out with an server option of PvE and PvP, which one has the greater list to choose from? Answer PvE servers are atleast 2 times more abundant.
If PvP'er are this major gaming group explain to me why very few games are made for you and why on new games do PvE servers outnumber PvP servers 3:1? Without PvE'er your MMO market would be very small.
Thankfully you guys have Darkfall coming up. Its just too bad it wont be out before TCOS. I already see the TCOS forums ablaze over "nerf this...... buff that......class balance: epic fail...TCOS you fail you over buffed this.... now nerf it back......" I just hope the game name doesnt get ruined because of the PvP issues that it will have. Getting a bad name on a new MMO is like death sentance, and its stupid over class balance. I am praying that Darkfall gets released 3 days before Aion.
