Ok...for those of us who are following the series but HAVE NOT read the book...I watched the last episode yesterday. Here's my theory ....revised lol:
1. The bartender. I'm beginning to think he's a werewolf. I say this because the girl he slept with said he barks like a dog in his sleep 4 episodes ago, he was found running but naked in the morning in the swamps, and he passionately hates vampires (traditionally werewolves and vampires are mortal enemies).
2. My idea on the coroner is shot. Cause he was a puddle of blood goo in a coffin...he was a fangbanger who was burnt alive. So my thoughts on him being the killer is now all shot to hell.
3. The Sheriff. I am still under the belief it may be him.
4. The Iraqi War Veteran. I think it could be him also. He may be snapping and killing all these people when he's delirious. Just an opinion.

I'm loving this show. They're doing a great job. It doesn't exactyly follow the books, but it's very entertaining.
If you've read the books, you know the answers to most of the OP's questions, but those would be spoilers.

I dont know how many episodes are left but its really growing on me.
Im hoping Sookie (sp?) gets turned on the next episode. Itll be pretty wild to see her as a psychic vampire.
