World of Warcraft: Mounting Interest

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

MMORPG.com World of Warcraft Correspondent Deborah Dietrich writes this article on collecting mounts in Blizzard's monster hit game, World of Warcraft.

Wrath of the Lich King is bringing a boon to those who collect mounts. With the expansion, mounts will be stored a new Pet tab on your character and will not take up bag space. Now you have space for an infinite number of mounts and that is a good thing, as there will be an impressive reward for collecting 50 mounts when WotLK goes live, your own albino netherdrake!

But first a little history; mounts did not start out as collectibles. Back in the olden days of original World of Warcraft, one could not achieve a mount till level 40 (now down to 30) and while the gold cost may seem trivial now, I remember working for some time after I hit 40 to try and save enough gold to buy my riding skill and a mount. Once you had your pouch of gold, you went to the mount vendor of your racial faction and purchased the allotted beast from a limited selection of colors. That color choice was your only choice.

Check out Mounting Interest

You do realise this went live two weeks ago, with patch 3.01???

The mount and pet system was implemented in the pre-expansion patch, and there's people already on the servers with the Albino Drake mount...

It's not easy acomplishing this feat as you need to be exalted in many factions. I would guess only the long time vets would be the only ones who this would be easier to do for.

I wish there was a way to get opposing factions mounts. Also, using real life cash to get them but that's only thru' the cards. They said on e-bay but how can you trust paying/buying from someone you don't know?

Another thing related to this is, Blizzard should lower the prices for exalted players. Exalted players you could say are priveleged players since they've attained that rank, yet, the prices on exalted-only items is high everywhere. Just look at the price for the mount from the cenarion faction, 1600 gold. Shouldn't these prices for these guys be mower being they've gotten this far?

The AQ40 mounts do count towards this figure.  I have also heard that they will be able to be used outside of AQ once the actual expansion hits.

Sorry for any inaccuracies, but these articles are written approximately a month before they are published.  My clairvoyance fails me again.

My son has had the Albino Dragon mount for a few days now.  He gets a lot of interested comments when he's in Shattrath with it.

That was a nice definition of WoW; wasting aeons to get ego crappy stuff to show off to the worst community ever that will want the same thing to show off to others... Eh, you proud of your son wasting his time with pixels instead of doing great things irl? WTG daddy.

    The crappiest MMO ever?

You're mainly posting in WoW threads, calling WoW players fanboys, whiners, brainless zombies, etc.

You seems to know a lot about WoW. If I read between the lines, it's easy to suspect you actually love WoW, but something got you banned and now you're pissed. Am I right? Well, take your anger somewhere else, you've made your points.

Well first, I got your sarcasim in the "lifetime" comment, it's all good ;)  heh....

Second, considering WoW's current seat of power, I find ( I do not like WoW mind you) your statement of the crappiest MMO ever, devoid of sarcasim, as well as un-educated.   A chimp could tell you that it is obviously not.  People play it, lots of people.....heh......

Trying to get back on track for the OP, mounts are most deffinetly cool, I like mounts, but comeon.....ROFL, my point was......you got ubah power raiding for gear, rinse wash repeat, for what?!  OH SNAP, the next tier of raiding content, the PvP was an after thought, and the fact there is dicussions as to mount collecting, to me is hillarious......but alas so many mounts, so much faction grinding, so little time........yes yes, plz Mr Orc, Hammer dance for me whilest hopping around like a jack rabbit and switch between your 14 mounts you have acquired, WoW your l337......

To the true gamers that play WoW, I can understand your actual interest in overcoming the faction thing to acquire a mount that is not readily available to you or what not....and if you aren;t part of what unfortunatley has become the majority of teh WoW playerbase, kudos.....

    Har har, aren't you clever?

That's not something the correspondants have any control over - the website likes to hold on to articles for several weeks before they are published, so don't come to this website expecting cutting edge "news" - everything on here (or at least, everything by the correspondants) will be at least two weeks old.

The comments section of the WoW articles are infested with brain-dead, WoW-hating trolls. Half the comments to the correspondent's articles usually consist of whiney, bitchy WoW-haters who couldn't give a damn about the article, all they care about is that the comments section gives them a soap box that they can use to spew more of their blind hatred of WoW. Step off, assholes. If you hate the game so much, then go back to your Warhammer and let those of us who like the game enjoy it in peace.
