Everquest NDA lifted

jimothypetrojimothypetro Member Posts: 1,437

A message from John Smedley:

As of now, the NDA for the EverQuest II Beta is officially lifted. We encourage our beta testers to share the experiences they’ve had in beta with the rest of the EverQuest II community. Many more people who enrolled in the EverQuest II beta program can expect beta keys in their inboxes in the very near future. In addition, in the past few weeks we’ve let the Legends and Lords of EverQuest players in, and we would like to thank them for their support. We now have four Beta servers up and running including one French and one German server and we’ve let in over 30,000 players since July. In the near future that number will grow far past that. Keep an eye on your inbox!

Seen this on the official beta forums.

May I be one of the first to say(legally), this game is LAGGY! heheheheh

EDIT: Doh, I could've sworn this was the everquest forum. Oh well, it might as well be, half the topics contain "EQ2" in the topic. ::::18:: ::::18::

actually I don't experience lag at all

    and look at my machine!

the game is awesome might i add...thought a put off was the boat system

instead of waiting for boats you ring a "mariners bell"

    and click the zone

    and zone in, lol

if you have any specific questions, email me at MurtBijani@mmorpg.com MurtBijani@hotmail.com MurtBijani@yahoo.com or Serien@bpcprograms.com

    So how is EQ2?

compared to WoW, COH far as fun factor, grouping, and soloing?

also do you think it feels like it could turn into EQ as far as two many expansions?

Thats cool, this means I wont have to totally deck out my system, if your system doesnt lag at that. I shouldnt have to spend 2000 on a new comp now!!

well I can tell you it's much better than CoH..but I haven't played Wow, so I really can't decide there

grouping is cool, the experience split is enough

and if one person dies, everyone shares his death

so instead of losing like a whole yellow, you lose only a blue..and everyone in the group loses a blue

Soloing.. no one can touch the mob when you've touched it unless you "call for help"

and once you do, you get no exp from the mob, but it saves your life...lol

and yes, I think it will have a couple expansions in its time...

i mean, there are a LOT of zones, but the world map just looks so small!, (compared to EQ)

    any specific questions?

*i feel so guilty saying this...but nda is lifted, so I really don't know why I feel guilty..lol

no not at alL! my system runs it perfectly fine!

and what's the use spending 700 bucks upgrading now when yous till wouldn't be able to play at full graphics and settings?

I say, keep your current system..upgrade some small things

then later on..i mean, much later, undergo mass upgrades

EQII runs perfectly smooth on my system.

I didn't mean system lag, I meant server lag. Places like Antonica on Beta server 1 are almost impossible to play in.

And EQ2 is more group-orientated than WoW. I don't feel like saying all the pros, cons of both games, so I'll end it at that.

Ok, here are my questions to you beta testers:

    1) is the feel still like EQ1?  meaning is the emphasis still loot?  is the PvE difficult and challenging?  And are the grouping mechanics pretty much the same?(where your taught aggro control, and if you dont know it you die)

    2) how well done is the game at this point?  Is it further than WoW is?  or can we expect the same old premature release and then add content after release?

    3) What is the most fun thing you have experienced in the game so far?

    4) what has been the most annoying?

    5) What systems are you running it on, and how much lag/choppy'ness/crashes are you experiencing?

Thats it for now, i'll add more questions if i think of any :)

    1) never played EQ1.

    2) It is pretty well done. Few bugs, though there are more than WoW, and pretty much all of the content is in game. Server lag is a bad problem atm. They can easily get this game out by Nov. 15th, but don't be surprised if it gets delayed(release chance of '04: 90%).

    3) The tutorial. No joke, lol.

    4) Lag. Not system lag, server lag.

    5) Check my post here.

I am pretty much split between either playing WoW or Eq 2.  I played Eq for 4years and the frustration lvl got pretty high sometimes.  I remember the first time i made tha long run to freeport from Halas....that was so exciting just to explore and see if i could  get there in one piece.  I played WOW when they had that 1 week stress test  and i must say it was so easy to play.   Blizzard did a excellent job with the interface.  The quests are real easy to understand and definately easy to accomplish.

I still hope i get a chance to beta test Eq 2 so i can cure my curiosity.

So here is my eq2  questions again.

how difficult or easy is it to craft?

Is stats a big part of the game?

    Traveling? horse? or what?

will u be able to solo at higher lvls and actually see exp increase?

which is more powerful...tanks or casters?

and is the necro pet cool looking? lol

***favorite character in eq was a necro***

all i could think of atm and sorry if these questions seem alittle out there.

    1) Ahhh the crafting system. It is one of the best thought-out crafting system IMO. Well, that's what I see when I look at the beta crafting boards. ::::18::::::18:: I haven't crafted much, so someone else can answer this.

    2) Stats are pretty important. They won't make or break your character, but it will be noticable.

    3) Horse, magic carpet for mounts at release. Both are bought with guild oints if I'm not mistaken.

    3) You can solo all the way to 50(that is what I hear anyway, I'm not that high yet).

    4) Hmm.. well tanks are better.. "tanks"... and casters are better healers, and better nukers. Not sure what you mean here exactly.

    5) No idea what the necro pet looks like. :P

In Eq  and sometimes in most games.  Your main Tank class...warrior, armsmen, or even pally are not needed in a group because of caster classes that have superhuman pets or even spells.  I remember in eq it got to a point when warriors coudnt even get a group due to a change in tactics, and a monk became the primary tank of choice.

So what im really tring to ask is do you need all ur major classes to be effective aganist bosses and such? which i hope you do.

or when forming a group you need certain classes to be productive?

which i know a good well rounded group is by far the best.

but are some classes just useless and not needed or will be looked over.

ok..im going to bed now not sure if im making much sense...lol.

I would like to know more about the economy and the group crafting. I heard it is based on ones skill in following some real time variables.

Are there persistent markets of some type or can players set up a shop? If so any limits on what can be sold or the number of items up for sale? How diverse are the items in terms of quality and custom enhancements?

Hmm... reminds me of when Planetside was about to go RETAIL.

They had TONS of contests and other things for beta giveaways (in like 6-9 publications) just like EQ did here and other sites... then 7 days later started the 'Open Beta STRESS TEST'.

Sound like they are following the same plan... no beta key in contest means no biggie at all.

No, the best computers on the market can't run this game at extreme quality.

With your settings you will be able to run it at High Quality easily, and Very High Quality if you want to sacrifice some FPSin cities with alot of people, etc.

By the way, the settings go like this:

    Extreme Quality
    Very High Quality
    High Quality
    Balanced
    High Performance
    Very High Performance
    Extreme performance

Any of these can be slightly tweaked, as there are ALOT of different things you can change(things like resolution, distance mobs will draw at, how many characters will show on screen, etc... more customizations than any game I've seen).

Personally I play at balanced with a few tweaks.. I could play on High Quality, but I tend to lag in cities with alot of people, at raids, etc.

    2800+ athlon AMD
    128mb ati 9800 pro
    1gig ram

Yeah, Doom3 was like that too, but I reaaaaly couldn't see ANY difference in Doom between the "2nd to highest" 'general' setting then crank the rez, and everything manually up to max.

I think in Doomt the "extreme" setting difference was just like the 'specular' (light) mappings were compressed and so there was a 1.7% reduction in the quality of the light 'skinning' of textures.

Really.... you can take screenshots and if you didnt' save them in 20mb ultra high res bmp format you'd NEVER see it (and ceratinly not while you are playing and things move faster)

I guess I'll have to tweak like everyone else, but I always was the kind of guy that WOULD trade FPS for the 5min I'm in a town, for +10% quality graphics for the hr I'm out raiding or hunting or questing.  (ideally there would be some dynamic recognition of that and scale graphics accodingly, but I'm not expecting very good DLOD by release)
