In beta since April...

FratmanFratman Member Posts: 344

According to the devs, DF has been in closed beta since April. So why don't they have a date for open beta or the actual release of the game . 8 months is a long time. Can anyone explain that to me? Seems kind of weird to be in beta for almost 8 months and we still can't find 1 person on these forums that has played the game.

Does anyone actually believe they've had NPCs and professional testers working on beta since April?

I really think you need to post a link, so people can see you aren't just making stuff like that up. I know I think you are, I haven't heard anything about beta going on since april. Are you just talking about their own beta for proffessional testers, or on a larger scale?

They said recently that nobody outside the company is playtesting this game. So beta hasn't started yet.

They also announced that beta will end in December. So beta is going to end in a month, but they don't even know when it will start. So it looks like beta will end before it starts. Pretty crazy eh?

My slightly optimistic and probobly deluded prediction:

Darkfall beta starts when WotLK goes gold.

Otherwise it will probably ship with navel combat, lol.

it would be a stretch to call a few guys who they hired to test the game in house for "beta".

I didn't think they had beta tests for Vapourware?

basically heres the deal, if its been in beta since april that means you and i didnt have to pay for it then to play it. what they have done instead is kept the game in beta to play it and actually fix it instead of the players paying to play beta and find out all the bugs and bitch about them. for example AoC from may until now. that is what you call a beta period. so would have liked to pay to play darkfall since april and have an experience like me paying to pay AoC in may or wait and let them fix it so its a pretty decent launch?

Who is the genius that said the "closed beta" / "open beta" model is the best option anyway?  Just because that is what has been done for years now doesn't mean it is the only way to get a fully-functioning game to the public.

Funcom had an open beta with countless testers and look at what they released with Age of Conan...

SWG had hundreds of beta testers back in 2003 and look how dreadfully incomplete that game relased as...

My point is that it appears this development team has taken a very different approach to designing their MMO.

I don't care if they EVER have an open beta.  They aren't charging us to try the game so we will quickly find out if the game is playable or not, and it will be free.

How many games have been released in the past 5 years that were anywhere near ready?  Only 1 or 2.  Open betas didn't do a thing for those games.  If these guys have had internal testers zapping bugs for months to years, they very well might have a better system of performing a beta stress.

Who knows and who cares.  These threads are nothing more than a cry for attention.  I hope this game releases and is in great shape.  I hope it is very successful both critically and comercially.  Finally, I hope that all these people who have spent years bashing this project find the game is too difficult for them and they go back to leveling up their Blood Elf in WoW.

    Tecmo Bowl.

unless they have hundreds and thousands of beta testers; they won't be able to stress the servers.

the more people you have playing, the more playstyles/thoughts you'll have; therefore, the more bugs/exploits you'll find.

closed betas can last for incredibly long times; but you're still going to want an open beta to ensure your servers don't grind to a halt at launch...

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I personaly think they will allow about 5 thousand+ players into beta not just a few...  they need to make sure the servers can be stable with tons of players in pvp before launch or else it will be liked shadowbane was when it was launched!  unstable and full of lag and rubber bands.

They said noone is PLAYTESTING it, yes. But they have invited people to the hardware testing part.

So outsiders have been let in, just not to play the game yet.

    I remember one company saying..

Yeah you don't need to see everything, we have over a hundred professional testers playing through stuff that we want to keep a secret, and you'll just have to trust us.  Buy the game when it comes out.. you're in for a surprise.. come on you know you want to buy it.. that's right.. everything is fine here.. buy it, come on you know you want it.

    lol  5,000 players?

You need about 50,000+++++ beta testers to properly test a MMORPG.

When Shadowbane was in beta they were having a hard time even getting the amount they needed to properly test the servers.

5,000 beta tester will do NOTHING. Out of 5,000 there might be a few hundred online at once.

This is one of the big reasons why this game is such a joke. They simply refuse to let the masses actually login and play test it the proper way....

The game is fully playable. They presented the game during The Athens Digital week. Had Dev's playing the game online, and in front of the crowd for an hour without any errors or problems. Video's of it are up, and can be accessed from the news section of DFO's forums. And yes, they are in beta, hardware configuration tests, which isn't playtesting to the public, But a team of professional game testers have been in beta for months and months now. The game is expected to be out of beta in the beginning of december, with a launch shortly after, inside of 08. Happy hunting.

oh, and they WILL have a short open beta. open to EVERYONE. This has been stated time and time again. So why people continue to cry and bash the game because of beta is beyond me.

They kept it all so secret for stealing code hacking.

They use proffesional beta testers and ingamebots to test the game and they take so long that the game is bugfree and stable, not a scenario like AoC or some other failors.

    Its DONE WHEN ITS DONE:)

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
