Runescape - Full PvP worlds again

stickmstickm Member Posts: 219

Jagex has released PvP worlds in Runescape on the F2P and P2P servers. One of the biggest complaints against Runescape in the past was the Jagex had been dumbing down the game for kids.

Unlike alot of other games, Runescape allows you to switch worlds on demand, if someone is in your training spot you can log into another world where that spot is empty. So you do not need to create a new character to participate on the PvP worlds.

Currently you can attack players in the old wilderness aswell as in towns (have not been able to do this since the classic days many years ago). Like before there are multi combat areas and single combat areas. Banks are safe zones but if run into a bank you can be attacked for 10 more seconds to prevent abuse.

Last night I was testing it with my brother and hooked up with our clan by chance and PKed for a good 2.5 hours in a town called Falador (multi combat so multiple people can attack a single person). In runescape you cannot teleport block people in towns, and dispite there being a single combat area (running here makes all but 1 person stop attacking you) and 2 banks in Falador we managed to get tons of kills. Focus fire (all attack 1 target) killing people before they get a chance to tele, using binds to prevent them from running away... finishing them off in 10 seconds before they are safe in a bank etc.

You are allowed to attack people within 10% +5 levels of you combat. I am Level 122 and I could attack a lvl 105 in towns. This range increases if you go PK in the winderness instead

Currently there are not many options for PvP games which allow looting / clan death matches. Runescape is very unpopular on these forums but im curious what you guys think of this update in Runescape?

Does anyone else remember when this mmorpg was the joke of the genre? Where all the kids went to play it because it was a free to play browser game with horrible graphics and bad controls. I knew tons of kids who played this game and yet you still say the term dumbing down for kids : Every adult with a job however was busy having a life or playing normal games while all the geeks were playing pay to play mmorpgs.

I would say the general popution is still kids... however.... Runescape has basically 2 tiers of players... people in the clan community and people who are not... And im not talking about clans that exist on the runescape.com forums either. The clan im in has been around since 2001... I may have been a kid when i joined (16) but now im 23... most people in the clans that exist outside of runescape are much older then the general populous... Its like playing warcraft 3 Dota with public players who leave and suck and swear all the time.... but if you get registered in TDA no one will leave... they have their own rules and own blacklists etc...

The same kind of league exists outside the public realm of runescape... there is external community forums and clan ranking leagues which have tournaments you register for to rank your clan... all clans have their own external forums and teamspeak/vent servers which they pay for. These clans all have simular rules... no teleporting... no using Bad Mannor Pray 1 vs 1... no running away from official fights...etc

So your experience is really dictated by how involved in the game you are. Same thing could be said for games like EvE... I tried the trail... got forced into a Corp where the chat was filled with swearing/potty mouth... i quit right then... Now what would have happened if i had got into a corp which took me out pking with them and stuff? Who knows.

Actually a lot of people appreciate runescape for what it is.   Just have no intention of ever wanting to play it.

Even with all it's faults and failures it's questing system, skill system, and Misc. Content beats out a lot of other games.   The developer methodolgies are also somewhat interesting to look at as a model.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

What kind of looting do they have on the PK servers? I checked out runescape before and it seemed decent however it was post-PK nerf so didnt spend much time in it.

Full pvp worlds has some appeal.

You're right, most of the clans on Runescape.com forums are sux0rz, though they usually think they are the only ones.

Anyway, I think this is good although I haven't actually checked it yet, might do it some time soon. Though from what I've generally heard they're good.

In my experience the pvp worlds are a half baked update worse then bounty hunter. The loot is bad, the mechanics are bad, people can teleport during a fight if you don’t have tely block(in normal areas), their are to many safe zones, and the overall system on how you get loot is flawed and destroys the purpose of the old style runescape pking.

amen to that my friend, plus you cant "multi combat" in Pv P. Only 1 on 1 battles.

Well it's hard to explain. You won't get enemies stuff when he dies, but he will lose them tought. You get some roandomize item, depending on:

    -your and enemy lvl difrence

    -how "impressive" your kill is

-how much you are danger to lose on death

-if you are in "hot spot" area, you might get better drop

-longer you are in danger zone, better your loot is.

OKay so say I have a lvl 68 barrage / ranger .. and I kill a lvl 100 melee I get better drops than they would if they killed me even though I am much harder to kill? what determines the "lvl differnce?" combat or each level you have? what determines the impressiveness? I don;t need armor to be hard to kill, them wearing armor makes them easier for me to kill.. so how exactly do they determine this?

I have killed people five combat levels higher then me and more on my pure and still have gotten next to nothing, I then followed jagex’s instructions on how to pk to the bone and still have gotten next to nothing, the drop tables stink end of story.

I hate this PvP. Not because of the droped stuff, but because I don't like loosing all my stuff when I die. People tell me I'm "safing" when I heal, but I can't reply because I'm too busy eating my food. Next to everybody uses either range or magic (or both) and they completely destroy my melee guy. If I tried the wildy before it got removed, I probably wouldn't have liked that either.

I lost all my dignity a long time ago.

That’s sad, no really that is.

could you elaborate on what's so sad about it?

Do you really need me to? You’re afraid to lose pixels in a game, you cant see how sad that is?

  • TussTuss Member Posts: 103

Says the guy who got a warm fuzzy feeling everytime he got "pixels" after he killed someone.

So let me get this straight Tuss, you are less happy with the game now that they made more people happy than before when everyone was pissed off?  They made alot more people happier with this update than the ones in the past. Though it is still not a substitute for the fairness of the pk drop system they had before because this one has so many instances it is not fair to the due to the game determined difficulty and impressiveness vs actual player difficulty and impressiveness. You may very well kill the  best pker in the game with this sytem and not get anything to show for it.

PvP worlds are fun, yet still like the wildy, full of 1 itemers and PJers. Fun? Hell yes. Cost efficent? Hell no.

Currently restarting World of Warcraft :/

I didn’t get a "warm fuzzy feeling" but it was fun, what’s your point?

Are you saying I shouldn’t play games that are fun? Oh! Now I see why you still play runescape, it all makes sense now.

Warm fussy feeling? How could you get that kind of feeling when you dont even get the items of the person you killed? where's the feeling in that?where's the pride ?

From experience, this new pvp update is good for those who like to kill for fun and junk. But it gets boring fast.. very fast.

and for those who say this is similar to the original Pking system, "you're an idiot". Go figure out why.

  • TussTuss Member Posts: 103

It is similar to the original pvp system except for not getting your opponents stuff. I have realized that I was an idiot some time last year, and I'm okay with it.

And I meant the warm fuzzy feeling while pking in the old wildy, not the new pvp. It's not that hard to figure out.  Seriously.

i agree with you those pvp world are filled with pjers and 1 itemer.

i always get mad when some noob comes up to me and atts me while they have only one item and using protect item. i get no good drop for it. sometimes y am i risking my stuff if im just fiting lots of 1itemers and pjers.

i have no idea why people always go for me. they always go for the rangers even thought theres a guy with lower stats than me.
