Havent tried it yet, but I have amazon prime so its free shipping as well.  I guess the 30 day trial comes with that, figure for 96 cents its a deal.  For those playing now what do you think, give it a try or not?

I'd say give it a try! I started last November and they have made some very good improvements to the since launch.

Thirty days for 96 cents, that is a pretty good deal, in my opinion. Course you can get the 7 day free trial first and play that till time runs out then apply the code if you find you like the game. So that is something like 37 days of cheap playtime.

As SXR mentioned pretty good stuff coming even returning to earth. Now is a good time in my opinion to jump in and level a toon up to get ready for the earth stuff.

    Hope you enjoy it.

Wow I recently was at gamestop and saw it for around 10 dollars and I thought about trying it. .96 cents is almost too cheap to pass up. Too bad I just got EvE and I am loving it.

They must have made a LOT of those boxes. I mean... ten times more than they sold... at least. I've seen them on clearance at Fry's months ago, and really cheap on eBay. I heard they are showing up at Big Lots! now too. How many subs were they expecting to pull in? They don't even need a free trial because the game is practically free as it is, which is pretty nice.

RG supposedly said around time of release that he expected TR to compete with WOW in terms of population. If that was true then maybe they produced 500,000 boxes for the launch. Really no way to know how many they made unless NCSoft puts that information in its financial report.

$1 is a steal for this game, however you feel if it was released prematurely or doesn't warrant a monthly fee. Grab a few copies for your friends and you're going to have a blast with this game - at least until your free month runs out.

At 3 cents a day the first month is an absolute steal. After that the cost jump may or may not be worth it.

  • RaltarRaltar Member UncommonPosts: 829

Yeah, a month worth of play in an MMORPG for a dollar? That sounds like a good deal. Even if all else fails you can just add the game to your collection and in 50 years you can tell your grand children about your pile of ancient video games which they will then proceed to make fun of you for it while they go to play on the holodeck or whatever.

But don't play past the first month. One dollar is worth it. But the $15 a month you will pay after that isn't.

It is a very good game. Some will love it, others like it, then you have the haters. But it is worth checking out. I would play it, if I had the time.

There are some good reasons you can buy this game for under a dollar. Closer to the truth is a few will love it, some will like it, most will quit just like the last year of TR has proven.

I lasted 6 months in the game and for the most part I had great memories of it.  Had some epic missions and I am yet to find another MMO that has the same feel or fluid movement that you get in TR.  Fire from on top of the wall, jump off the edge and finish a combat roll then blast another alien with your shotgun.  All fluid and easy to control.  Even 1 month renew is a great price for 2 months of gameplay.

My point is very good games do not end up on sale for 96 cents a year after release. Especially not supposed major MMOs. But I would suggest anyone who can get it for that price try it for a month. 3 cents a day is a bargain for sure.

Actually, I believe this is less of a "sale" and more of a liquidation. Recently (as in this morning) all copies of Tabula Rasa were pennied out (basically priced to $0.01 which means they are to be pulled from the shelves, destroyed and counted as loss) from all Gamestop/EBgames stores. I don't know if other retailers are following suit. It suggests that they don't plan on selling the boxes retail anymore however.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

Even though I am not known for my praise of TR I have to admit when I read your post my first thought was it was BS, but before posting I decided to go to Eb Games and Gamestop online and check. I did searches for the game on both and both sites returned a no matches found message for Tabula Rasa.

So I must apologize for thinking bad of you and from the search it appears both places no longer have the game. BestBuy so far has not followed as I can find it on their site.

I don't really have any feelings either way towards TR besides perhaps that of disappointment at wasted potential. I was just trying to pass along the info because I was there as they were being marked down at my local store, not to make a statement of any kind. Most MMOs pull their boxes after a few years anyway and stick to digital or web sales. Apology accepted and I apologise if I sounded like I was trying to BS about the game.

Considering it has only been a year the pulling of the game at this point has to be seen as a bad thing. Unless they are doing it to reissue the game with all updates, but I doubt such a poor seller would spend that kind of cash at this point.

It was wasted potential and while the devs have worked hard to catch up, too many things that were needed were ignored and still are. One year later and as much as the game has changed it was not change it needed, it was more. More epic battles. more to do, more content. Changes should have been done in beta, the last year should have been spent expanding on one of the best combat systems in an MMO.

This close to the one year anniversary of release should not have the game being destroyed by major retailers. Something sounds wrong there.

I will reiterate that TR's failure lies with listening to some of the carebear  crowd in the TR community, mainly on the unofficial main forums, PlanetTR, the most fail of any gaming forums I have ever seen in 8 years of Hardcore gaming.

    They didnt want Raiding.

They didnt want it to be gear based.

They wanted it so that casual play would dominate.

They got what they wanted.  And the game failed.

The devs over there at TR need to take some solid advice and stop listening to whiney carebears.  Make a game that MANY different types of gamers (casual, CORE, HC, etc.) can enjoy and they will have a success.

Honestly, my biggest disappointment in the game was the logos system, especially with the lore they were trying to build up behind it. They could have done somethinv really cool with it that would have given the game an overall goal as well. Scatter the damn things across the planet and make people find them, make some easy to get, some moderately difficult, and some downright rare.  Discovering the logos and using them for something interesting would have been an awesome feature and could have kept people going for a bit in itself. Instead what did they do? Made them required for skills for some odd and unnessisary reason, and then gave out the locations in a literal laundry list of "go here and come back" quests. The first time I saw that, I was floored, and with the state of the rest of the game, I never really got the heart back to give the game a shot in retail.

This is exacly what I think is happening. But I love all these DOOM DOOM DOOM posts. I saw the exact same thing when DDO lowered their boxes. Now gamestop/ebgames doesn't sell them anymore. But you can go to walmart in store or online and find both games there. I will correct myself there I did not see DDO at the local warlmart but did see TR. Gogamer.com also has both games for sale online, as well as amazon.com.

I saw an article about how Wal-Mart is the top retailer for US video games. Gamestop has a crappy selection "in store" for PC games. The three local ones here you almost have to ask where the PC section is. BestBuy is a lot better. At best buy saw TR and right around the corner Tabula Rasa game cards.

Turbine has admitted DDO is making them a profit. I don't think TR is a mountain of a success, but I don't think it is going anywhere anytime soon. MY OPINION.

I am not surprised Wal-Mart is the top retailer of video games as they sell games for every system and have a large selection overall.

EBGames/Gamestop still sells DDO through their website while a search of Tabula Rasa returns a message of no matches found. Places liquidating TR is not a good sign, it is a doom. It is bad enough when a couple of months after release it was in the $19.99 bin but now it is being removed from some stores completelly.

TR cost around 60 million to create. Subscriptions look to be about 6 million a year. You do the math on the day TR turns a profit.
