It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

FC must really rely on mmorpg.com...

I just came to mmorpg.com and first thing I see? Another AoC article.

For kicks, I scrolled through the featured articles and AoC currently has 3 out of the 10 slots occupied. It's the only one that has more than 1 present, and I think that's the case almost constantly. Week after week, every few days, bam... brand new featured article about AoC.

I mean of course it's good to keep themselves in front of people's eyeballs, but good grief.

It kinda comes across like they're desperate to keep themselves in the spotlight; like an insecure child who constantly needs people to notice them; "look what I did! look what I did!"

Facetiously speaking, of course, if someone there had a birthday cake shaped like Conan's head, it wouldn't surprise me to see a featured article about it here.

I don't think I've seen so much coverage for that game on any other mmorpg website as I do here.

FC seems to have an awful lot of "stock" invested in this site. Although I wonder... does MMORPG seek out these articles, or does FC request an article about anything they want to talk about?

I really have to agree on this one, its really annoying with all these AoC stuff going on.

Jesus christ FC really are desperate or mmorpg.com staff likes AoC. But I think FC owns some part of mmorpg.com (more than 50%) it feels like that. Cause, this is pretty stupid.

look what I did! look what I did!! Very fun . I don't know maybe it is like that. We AoCers have a lot of good stuff going on for us now though. Maybe thats why we are so anoying. Don't worry, in about a  week or so we go back to our silent nonexistant place in the universe.

If AoC have more info here it must be because their advertising department sends out a lot of info and other games is worse with that. What do you expect the staff to do, go around to a few companies every day and interview people or censor game info to keep all on the same level?

This site ain't particulary AoC pro, just check the review here, it was really low and almost every game got a better one.

Silence isn't that good if you want to sell new games, more companies should send out info this often. Also, WAR have at least as much info, they do a lot more new things with games that have not been out so long than games that have been out for many years.

Ah, one more whine post from the AoC bashers. Nice to see you are frustrated seeing AoC development alive and kicking

As far as I can see, AoC is no different from the other games. This is the number of posts for the past month:

    - AoC 7

    - Loto 16

    - EVE 5

    - WAR 12

    - WoW 10

    - etc...

    www.mmorpg.com/features.cfm

So, you guys aren't whining about WAR, Lotro or Wow which had more posts than AoC?

AoC had a major gameplay overhaul with ground breaking new features to the game: major PvP improvements with consequences system, criminal shady camps, huge itemization and crafting improvements,... new areas are being added to the game, etc... These things need to be talked about, the players need to be informed.

This is business as usual, nothing to see here, move on.

I like to keep up on what's going on with the different mmo's.  The articles are free.  Read them or don't read them.  No biggie.

    We should be so lucky......

The only reason there are three articles is because Amazing Avery was so upset about the poor score in the review that jedijef wrote, that he had to pull a month old interview with the smallest guild on Tranny out to show him up....

Well said. The article that went up today had been shelved from since 2 weeks back.

Don't fear though, judging from the lively discussions on this forum there is plenty of interest.

    -GROUNDBREAKING new features

    -MAJOR PvP Improvements

    -NEW areas

LoTRO and WoW have major expansions coming out in the next few weeks with new classes areas and features.WAR is the still the new shiny.  AoC is still trying to get up to acceptable level of quaity that should have been trhere at release. I guess it all evens out in the long run.

I for one dont blame em for spamming advertisement, i have just subbed to the game and since Beta thi sgame has made huge improvements, not once have i had lag, a crash or to be hnest any kind of Graphical gliches, if the game released like it is today it would be a huge hit, i am having a ball in this game to be honest, ok it has Zones but the Maps are of decent size, graphics amazing, details even better i just love jumping on my mount good to see a mount just dont pop up from mid air and next second your on it, i love the fact that you actually mount the Horse, love the Fact that the game is not a walk i the park when soloing.

I think hype it all they want to be honest how the game is now they should be pretty happy with themselves.

Why are there a lot of Age of Conan articles on this site? Probably because a lot of people read those articles, and since we're a hit-based revenue model site, it's probably good to run articles that people read.

Also, when you're looking at this, are you looking strictly at editorial content, or are you looking at Correspondent content as well?

Now, let's talk about the content of those articles before we go onn insinuating that there's something fishy going on:

One of the most recent articles is a review. A highly critical review in which the game that has boasted very high review numbers from other outlets received a 6.0 "Acceptable" rating.

Another of those articles is talking about a major update patch which happened. It was a timely interview and was informing folks about what was coming.

The most recent article was a player interview where the interviewee was pretty balanced in a number of areas. Not exactly promo material.

Now, let's just break it down to the numbers, shall we?

Number of articles both correspondent and editorial in the month of October:

    Age of Conan Articles: 6

    Warhammer Online articles: 15

    EVE Online articles: 7

    World of Warcraft articles: 10

    Atlantica Online articles: 5

    Feel better now?

I gotta agree with the MMORPG people on this one.

There is one significant fact about AOC that is not true about the other sub 100k games.    AOC has a huge negative following.   Probably 50% of the people who read this forum and the news articles are people who will never play the game again.  But that doesn't matter to MMORPG.COM.. because we are 'eyeballs' that they get paid for.

While AOC probably doesn't have as many players as EQ and UO, it does have many many more players who follow the game fairly closely.

I admit to reading every AOC article.  at first it was as comedy (haha, do they really think people are going to buy this crap?).   But now its more like the Rudy, where I just want to see something go right for them.(obviously 3.0 wasn't it with the exploit.).

So I read the first few replies and...

lol... "Whoosh..." is all that comes to mind.

But it's a great example of a guideline when posting on message forums...

Many fans/haters are too busy foaming at the mouth waiting to tear into any post they can to ever figure out whether the tone it was written in warrants it or not.

I particularly love how there are those who regard any comment they don't like or don't agree with as "whining". That always gives me a nice chuckle.

Anyway... I didn't mean to violate the holy sanctity of your precious game by posting a tongue-in-cheek observation/commentary on it.

My apologies. I must have lost my head.

Although the closing question of my OP was a serious one :).

you seem to have choesen to ignore my inital response, so I`m going to answer that particular question directly, although I want to be clear in thef act that I do not feel that AoC gets an inappropriate amount of coverage.

In gereral, there are a couple of ways that an article comes about. Sometimes, yes, the company says `we`d like to talk to you about this`. When this happens, I will either agree or not based on whether I think that it is a topic that our readers would like to hear about. Don`t mistake this with a blind `sure, I`ll put up your promo material`. That`s just not how it works. That being said, sometimes interviews or articles are about something being added to the game or similar and sometimes they`re more confrontational.

More often though, I approach a company about wanting to do an interview about topic X. None of our AoC articles recently have been presented by Funcom. The 3.0 interview was just that.. information about a major update. Following this kind of thing is not unusual. Beyond that, I suppose there`s the review we posted (giving the game a 6.0) and Ben`s interview with a  guild which had both positive and negative points.

I think though that your argument loses merit when you actually look at the numbers presented in my original response to your post. Try as hard as you wantt, but not everything is a conspiracy.

I don't see why eveyone has to jump on the AoC hate bandwagon, give it a rest and get some fresh air...

The games had it's problems but at least there trying to rectify it.

All the other MMOs out at the moment aren't much better imo other than Lotro and WoW and they have had a few years on them.

It's kinda funny that all this hate was going to VG but now all the trolls have jumped ship to this game and if Darkfall is a mess....oh dear I feel sorry for it.

MMOs these days suck due to the whiny public who screams for million of new features in one game which then turns into a mess (aka AoC).

    -------------------------------
    MMOs that I'm waiting for:
    WAR
    Aion
    SGW
    TCoS
    Darkfall

Strange that you can get exclusive video interviews with Erling from Funcom, however with the offical announcement of SWTOR MMORPG.com brings us zero video interviews.

Being a site dedicated to MMO's i would have thought you guys would be on the ball, guess i was wrong. Seems Gamespot bet you to it.

That isn't fair though.   Of course a game that is struggling is going to offer to do a lot more 'free' advertising interviews.   Bioware is much more controlled, they are going to sprinkle the interviews out over time and just because MMORPG.com hasn't gotten a big interview with Bioware doesn't mean they haven't been trying.

I can imagine EE has a lot of free time on his hands.

Probably as much as you considdering your interest in AoC while you are a full time WOW player. If you think I liked WOW when I played it you are so FCKing wrong. It's one of the more boring games I ever have played. I think I'll take a stroll over to the WOW forums in gact just to post a little bit about that later today.
