'Weak' monsters

I'm not talking about low level monsters but the ones that were already 'hurt', or has their health points already decreased. There are times when I attack a monster and I see myself fighting an already weaken monster. I'm not complaining or anything but I'm wondering why there are cases like that... Are those monsters previously in a battle but the player fled or something?

Oh, I see. That's interesting... I've always thought that the monsters' health will be regenerated at the end of a battle or something...Well, thanks!
