Since the campaigns are now over...

. . .I think it's time I made a few concessions to my conservative opposition here at the forum.

  1. John McCain is a true American icon. He is as much a personal hero to me as anyone else I could name. I have only the deepest admiration for the sacrifices he has made to preserve the nation that I love.
  2. Cindy McCain is as giving and empathetic as anyone I've ever read about. She has tirelessly devoted her time to helping the less fortunate, even though she has enough money to avoid any contact with the poor if she chose to. She achieves a level of philanthropy that many others won't even entertain as a passing thought.

  3. Sarah Palin is an inspiration to anyone who works to achieve more than is expected from them. As a mother of five and a governor, she is capable of juggling as much chaos at one time as any counterpart. I have no doubt she will be a political force in the future.

I have enjoyed this race and all the discussions immensely. I thank you all for your involvement, and look forward to 2012.

I'm glad to see you have looked at the candidates standpoints and plans and not at their completely irrelevant history in wars.

    oh, wait...

    >.>  I guess that the campaign is over I should say.

Obama isn't a fascist.  He has done some good things in the senate after I reviewed his voting record.  Well aside from several hundred motions to commemorate and individual or memorable event.  I still think he is following in the footsteps of Jimmy Carter and is doomed to repeat the same mistakes.

Good post.  Thank you.  It was the most fascinating election I ever studied.

    I anticipate fall-out:

    • "capitalism" will be blamed for the (1) market crash; (2) housing crash; and (3) bail-out.
    • "conservatism" will be blamed for (1) economic implosions; (2) incompetence; (3) corruption; (4) failed wars; and (5) a lot of other things.
    • Obama is going to get blamed for A LOT.  He needs to get to work immediately to really clean-up Washington; fix the economy; improve the military; and control the budge.  I am surprised anyone would want to be president now.  Actually, it would be a tremendous honor to be president now because you can help the country so much through vision, leadership, and integrity.

It has been enjoyable.  It has been a learning experience.

Well said DailyBuzz. Now that the political circus of the past 22 months is over, here's hoping we can all work together and get the US back on track again!

Very well said, Buzz.  I knew I had respect for you for a reason.  I must say that John McCain's concession speech is one of the classiest concession speech's I have ever heard.  Unlike some others I have heard, his sounded like it came directly from the heart.

And I think your thread is the best one to congratulate Barack Obama on his hard fought victory.  He ran one of the best campaigns this country has ever seen.  Now that it's over, I hope I can put my partisanship aside and give him the opportunity to lead this country through what is sure to be some hard times in the future.  It would be wrong of me to start criticizing him before he even has a chance to start implementing his policies as President.  God bless Barack Obama and God bless America!

I must agree, and I hope it's worth will not go unnoticed, or unanswered.

In a campaign marred by pandering, blundering incompetence, and a marked inability to present a plan instead of criticize someone else's, it's not surprising that the first time I saw the man I respected in 2000, the man I might have voted for in 2008 is when he bowed out of the race.

I don't think his heart was ever in it.  I hope this sends a message to future hopefuls - don't listen to the Rove's, the political advisors with an agenda who want to 'spin' a campaign or 'play to your strengths.'  Have a plan, a vision, and present it.

Goodbye, John McBush.  Hello, John McCain.  Glad to have you back.

In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.

Absolutely.  It was magnanimous, classy, and above all sincere and heartfelt.

He's so much better than so many of his supporters.

Absolutely. John McCain is quite a man. I never thought I'd see him run again after his loss in the 2000 primaries. I have to say, I'm incredibly grateful that the voters and the republican party gave him the opportunity to make this journey. It was a long and hard road, but I think his concession speech made a great stride toward preserving his legacy as a bipartisan politician, in a nation that hasn't always been kind to the breed.

It wasn't a congratulations thread. It was something I wanted to say no matter which way the election went.
We've been going at it pretty hard over the past year. It'd be false to say that I would have been happy about the prospect of a McCain presidency. However, McCain is an honorable man, and even though he voted with Bush 90% of the time, that 10% often left him bruised and battered. I have a great deal of respect for a man who can take such political lumps, absorb the loss, and muster the will to fight another day. It offers a great deal of insight into his character.
John McCain and Barack Obama will meet again. I, for one, look forward to the cooperation that both will endorse. Perhaps it can even inspire the rest of Washington to try it on occasion.

It shall be most enjoyable to for a bit less than four years have topic regarding subjects that are not all too foreign for me to be able to even grasp Wikipedias description of them. Although it's been quite enjoyable to look at all the 4-5 pages long discussions about these problems.
