There is also the economy system as well as guild and nation which give bigger and more option of PvP.
The question is, what brings you here? I suggest you try the game since there are a lot of threads here that talk about what the game can offer. You can even use the search button of this site. ^^
well in my opinion, i like the community in the game. people are just so fun during quizzes and those i party up with end up being my friends after we party for a quest.
also, the freeleagues are sources of strategy. sometimes id observe battles with big lvl diffs and it's pretty cool when the lower level person wins. makes you want to use his strategy.
The graphic of the game keeps me playing and even the story or the plot of the game gives the interest to other players. Another game feature is the auto-move and battle system, this will allow you to do some stuffs for awhile even though your in a middle of a battle. What the most enjoying part is that whenever you need help, there is always someone to answer all your questions.
There are lots of mini games in this game. You can try the free league, you also try treasure hunting, you can bet in the arena(and win big time!), you can craft your items, and the economy system is great. It is like an eBay like system in which you can list items and wait for someone to buy your item.
There are a ton of things that AO does that no other MMO has ever done. On the downside, the gameworld itself is quite small and your course through the game world is relatively channeled. They use the Guild Wars trick of letting you see lots of areas that you cannot actually get to, which increases the feel of openness a little bit, but if you love huge open landscapes such as in WoW, WAR, Vanguard, etc. don't look for that in this game.
What AO brings to the table that is different from every other game:
Great combat system. Deep, tactical, challenging. It's like chess in that it's simple to learn and hard to master. Literally the most fun combat system of any MMO ever, IMO, even better than Guild Wars.
Crafting is a money sink like other games, but there are social elements to it found in no other game. You can learn your skills from other players and they have a large incentive to skill you up for free because they get a reward out of it from the system. Some crafting skills like Food and Medicine are universally useful. You can learn to craft anything and everything that you can afford to. No artificial game limits.
Character builds are truly unique. You will never run across another player with exactly the same build as you. This is in large part due to the way that attributes for you and your mercs are raised, which is a random mechanic. If you drink x number of Growth Vials and someone else drinks x number of them, you'll both end up with different mixes of stats.
You can pay a token fee to advertise your services, such as offtering to teach skills or that you have some uber crafted gear for sale, etc. Every player has a ticker tape at the top of their window and sees these notices, and they can browse the advertisements by currently logged on players. This is a great way to find people who will skill you up for free, for example.
Likewise, Guilds can advertise too. Any player can look through the ads of guilds that are currently recruiting and you are guaranteed to be able to whisper the leader or an officer who can recruit you.
As others have mentioned, there are tons of minigame mechanics. A fair number of games of chance that can result in significant rewards (but which are also a potential money sink).
Even getting gear of any sort is a game of chance like pulling the lever on a slot machine. You get various "boxes" off your kills and when you open it, you see a fast-scrolling spinner-type random selector. Cross your fingers!
Enhancing and enchanting gear can be done by anyone and also has that element of chance. You occasionally get big successes that far exceed the normal result. But there are never any failures for the slower and surer route.
Crafting never has failures. Yay. And you *must* fight to craft. It's not a sit-there-for-hours-waving-your-hands affair like in most other games.
There are huge incentives to join ad hoc parties (chance to get very desireable items such as experience books), yet sadly not many people know this yet. The game is teeming with good excuses to actually be social, unlike so many other MMOs.
Likewise there are huge incentives to belong to a guild.
PK is concensual unlike so many other Asian MMOs. By that, I mean that you only have to worry about PK when your guild or your nation is formally at war with another guild/nation. And only from your enemies. If you don't like PK, you can choose to leave your guild/nation.
PK kills enable you to loot the corpse of your vanquished foe (you can drop some of your inventory and money on your person on death). There are mechanics to put excess money in a bank that will be safe, and you can also warehouse expensive crafting items or whatnot that you don't want to risk losing. Other games have this mechanic too but not many of them. Some PvPers love this and crave this mechanic to make PvP more meaningful and risky. On the downside, there appear to be no protections for lowbies getting PKed by warring highbies and it's a foregone conclusion so...
What do this game offer? 1st, the game itself, it is the turn based mmorpg. The story of Atlantica is unique on its own, it focuses more on the ancient civilization through facts, myth and fiction. The mercenary system is a unique game feature, unlike to other games, the mercenaries here at Atlantica is definitely promising, the game interface is a big help, all you have to do is read and understand. The auto-move as well is quite a fearsome feature since no other games offer such.
i just started this game but i most say its very nice . plenty of things to do the the betting is cool the quizes are something i havent seen in a while and i most say community is fantastic very nice people and helpful u will even get people that are willing to give beginner items which is an heard of in most mmo style games . last but not least the look and feel of the game is very very nice this game is so far a keeper in my eyes and this is coming from a non strategy based mmo player . if u are looking mmo that clearly is trying to make it a name for itself in the mmo world check out atlantica + rep
To be honest, the game is really a big thrill for me. I was doubting and had my little worries at first but the story, game play and the virtual world is amazing. I’m really entertained and moved by the game. Its not your typical MMORPG. Sure I’m a big fan of World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy but both have their pros and cons. Atlantica somehow is a fixed mix of the two games I love, Which really is fantastic.
The very thing that impresses me more, is that the world map is huge! Plus, its based in our continents. Just the fact that you can travel to those places (virtual world) really makes you wonder what its like. I’m very sure that everyone in the world that avails to this game would want to conquer their own continent. And that would be a challenge too because other people are trying to do the same thing and thinking it as well. Another thing, having a guild in this game is just beyond what I expected. And it is not easy keeping that power. Who knew in a guild you can be the mayor and work yourself up to being king, controlling the towns security, economy...etc. are something I cant wait to try when I’m a higher level. Unbelievable
There are still things I have to learn in this game and it is so complex. So far I’m taking it quite well. I have already absorbed a lot in two days. I can’t wait to have another go at it.
been playing this for a week, and im not yet bored, haha ..
cost - free
Graphics - superior
PVP - check
collecting/crafting - check ( characters have crafting skills level for diferent things like crafting weapons, food, medicine, abilities, items, etc.) also wide range of items..
pet system - i dont know yet, still at low level. but i see players with horses? ehe
other things to do - share items and get xp, craft items, upgrade weapons/armor, buy in the market, set up a bank account, go to a town hospital, get scrolls of wide variety, mix and match items, i dont know yet. that's all i know so far.. haha
Pure strategy on every detail of this game strategy is the key w/ out strategy hehe you can never win techniques also is essential. this game is nice for hardcore strategic gamers and you can apply it in your lifestyle. GRAPHICS amazing - speaking about the texture, appearance of the characters and most of all hehe the body build.
The biggest mistake people make with this game is that they see "turn based" and think that means that its an easy game......The challenge though is that alot happens/can happen in that 30 second turn......Many fights are unique and some of them require very quick thinking....You often have to make choices and make them quickly.......I think when people hear "turn based" they picture the old games where you made a move and could come back an hour later then make your next move......Also I think the f2p label scares away alot of people that wont even look at games that are f2p......I myself have never even noticed teh item mall in AO and I dont think the majority of the players even look at it........Most players hear "item mall" and think of the game where they played against that guy that spent the hundred bucks for his uber sword that could kill everyone in one hit.........AO isnt that way but you will always hear the "its just another asian f2p" regardless of the game involved.
Atlantica has so much to offer for all players who craves for a fresh mmorpg today, besides from having the first mmorpg who uses turn based combat system, atlantica has one great economy/market system.... You must find out by yourself because describing isnt enough you must try it!!!

to awnser the first question, the craft system is both fun and helps the players connect with everyone.
