i ve been playing mmos for a few years now and i ve tried most of the major ones ( even the terrible vanguard ) . warhammer i m finding to be a lot of fun and theres a lot more action in it than the likes of warcraft and other fantasy mmos , which for me is a big bonus . but what it does lack is that community feel to some degree . its not because of the instanced scenarios either or that there is a lack of players and nor is it because you get many of the idiots you get in wow ( i ve only had to ignore two people in the first month ) . it just lacks a coherant community feel . it could be that it is early days . but even in the guild i m in which has around 300 members ( about 100 active ) people dont chat and theres very little friendly banter . i ve actually left the guild to see if i can find a smaller friendlier one .
as it stands without that community feel its something i will return to for the odd month ( proberbly 1 in every 3 ) for the sheer fun action adrenalin ride that is warhammer . but it ll be an mmo i ll play on the side of my main ones ( lord of the rings and warcraft ) .
if the community feel improves i would certainly ditch wow in favour of it once i m fed up with the lich king content . its just at the moment it feels like playing something like the half life opposing force multiplayer game on a greater scale . if you know what i mean . which is ok because i kind ve like that sort ve thing . just not all the time .

I have to agree with the OP. Given the emphasis on teamwork for Scenarios & RvR, its strange that this is probably the least sociable game I have played, potentially though it depends on the server.
I originally created characters on one of the Euro RP Servers because in other games I have found that they had good communities. Since both are listed as Low/Low the community is a bit sparse & it is often hard to find groups. Following a suggestion on another thread about server transfers by 'LuckyCurse', I tried creating a toon on a Med/Med server & the author was absolutely right that it is a completely different game on a better populated server.
I don't know why Mythic created so many servers at the start, but hopefully once any merges are complete real communities will start to develop on the ones that are left.
Next all we need is Player Housing to horde junk in.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
Take the Hecatomb? TCG What Is Your Doom? quiz.
Had that problem when I played Order on Sea of Malice. Since transfer to Magnus, and joining Lords of WAR, I haven't had that feeling at all. Large, active guild, and lots of chat on the regional lines. Feels like any other MMO now. Hope you find a good place and community. From experience I can now say they are out there,

Edit: p.s. LondonMagus, didn't expect to be referred to while I was replying to the OP Glad that the transfer worked out for you. Completely different game when people show up to play.
I'd say a simple miscalculation on how many people would actually play (and stay playing it). Luckilly, they were swift with the free migrating.
i have no problem with the community on my server, atleast, always people no matter where im at
I am in a small to medium guild on Chaos Wase a RP open server and I agree with this. When logged on at first there is the usual stuff but thta quickly dies aferwards to almost nothing. Even in group or party this is the case as well and extends to battlegrounds to. However, I do not miss the stupid chat from chuck norris to god knows what and in that case would prefer nothing. I just wondering if this will change due to everyone trying to level up as fast as they can.
No community issues in my experiences since launch, get into a good guild and get to know people around the server.
Its ridiculously easy to make yourself a network of friends in this game, you just need to apply yourself.

I can see your epitaph now, on the day you expire. It will read "Wasted Potential".

i think it will proberly improve as time goes by . i m on a pretty good server in europe ( actually proberly one of the best ones ) i dont have any problem finding groups or battle ( which i love ) but i ve not found people very sociable on the whole . i m coming back to warhammer in january for a month . i still think its worth playing but i would hope that the community aspect that i think is crucial to mmos develops .
I'm in a very social Order guild on Wolfenburg. However, it does seem like the general community is pretty detached. Have you ever tried getting a response in chat? There can be 100 people in an area and not 1 person will respond...at least, on my server.

I have to agree with the OP, i was thinking the same thing.
When I bought the game I really had high hopes, after witnessing a total lack of respect amongst the communities on a few servers my hopes are getting smaller by the day.
I'll give it time and hopefully with merge / transfers friendly communities could maybe appear or i'll join a RP server, heard they are cool and there can be a real community feel about them.
My 2 cents...
I think RP servers in general have more of a community feel. I admit I tend to stick to working with my guild but I do talk and chat in region and especially in scenarios.
As in RL you have to be a friend to make a friend. Usually if you make a point of chatting, helping other folks out etc, thats the start to building a community where you are at.
When did you try the terrible Vanguard?.
right at the start then returned recently on a buddy key unfortunatly it was still as bad as i remember . i m sure theres some improvements since its start but its still not a good game . passable maybe for a freebie but not as a pay to play .

LOL, I still have my 'Vanguard Collectors Edition Box' around somewhere. I am keeping it for posterity.

Community feel is something I have never really understood but I would presume it follows the same as all social stuff - it takes time to build a community.
Wait few years and you have a community.
At least for me, it felt like I was playing alone most of the time because absolutely no one would be talking. No one. Even in a group, no one would talk, just kill stuff.
It felt very odd.
I think you need a good guild in order to really enjoy this game (that's what some people I know tell me anyway and they're still having fun).
Join a server like Avelorn, join the WHA boards and get to know people. The Community will not through itself at you.... actually have to join it.
