Didn't see your post, I made one as well.

Does "* Offer available only to former players of LOTRO with a paid online subscription in good standing at the time the subscription expired." mean that if you cancelled in your free month you aren't elegible?

Would be cool if someone with an active account could confirm this on official forums.

I would assume you would get to play as you used a key of a purchased game...

I was actually thinking about picking this game up again and just got this e-mail tonight. Will give me a good chance to see what's happened with the game in the last year.

On that topic, what does everyone think about the game at this point? I stopped playing about a year ago, not really for any reason other than my comp was dying and I just never picked it back up again. MoM is looking good, just want to get a few opinions from people playing right now.

I'd say the game's pretty nice. It's good-natured, people are usually mellow, friendly to answer questions. And it is less seizure-inducing than WoW in terms of colours, heh. Not that WoW is bad, mind you, just a different approach.

But, hey, it's free weekend, so you can check it out pretty nicely! :)

    Nvm, I figured it out.

So tried to login at 11:58 ET and doesn't show free weekend, so it would seem that maybe I was right about having to have subscribed at least one payed month. Has anyone been able to login with the welcome back weeekend yet?

  • CelestialnovaCelestialnova Member Posts: 81

i canceled my account a few months ago for sure crazyness of my life and i got the email and i still cant get in and i was a active member in good standing for over a year so i don'tknow why it wont come up with the free weekend, perhaps later tonight then! :)

Same problem here.  Subscribed til June and cancelled in good standing.  When I open the launcher there is only an option to reinstate the account and no apparent way to login for the welcome back event.

I contacted techsupport through the live chat and they were able to get my account working with the free weekend.

  • braamerbraamer Member UncommonPosts: 88

I did the live chat too, took just a couple of minutes and I'm up and running.

  • SeregostSeregost Member Posts: 10

I had to do the exact same thing. Went to live chat and got it up and running.

I had forgotten how nice the graphics are in this game, not quite what I am used to but nice still. Overall, I think this is a nice game but having a hard time with the shire, playing a hobbit burglar.

The last time I played I think I was an Elf Champion and I remember having an easier time getting into the quests. Not saying the quests are hard, but the style isn't what im used to not a lot of combat quests so far in the Shire.

Still gonna try to level some more to get out of the starter area but remember some of the reasons I stopped playing before so far.

yea, if you dont like the shire, dont make the same mistake I made a couple months ago and just give up on the game... try a different race (different starting areas) I enjoyed the human areas  the most, and the hobbit side I didnt really like at all  :)

You can always just skip the Hobbit  area after the first initial tutorial and head straight for Bree or atleast stick it out till lvl7 or so then head to bree, that is what i done when i rolled my Hobbit Burglar.I think you should be around lvl 5-6 after tutorial area anyways

The Shire is a little more serene and less combat oriented quests becasue that is not what Hobitses are about.  if its not for you just try a different starter area.  Champs are also a little easier to play than burgs.

Ya, made my way to bree gonna try questing in the man area. I wouldn't say that burglars are really harder at this level, because there are very few skills to make it more difficult. You really only have 1 debuff and your initial sealth opener that could be considered more complicated.

I play a rogue in WoW so playstyle isn't so much different just less dps. I just think they are weaker at the start and lack any good way of cc. I do find the protection quests hard if they are yellow to me because again no cc and lack of any ability to taunt, tabbing between targets doesn't seem to effective to keep aggro.

I remember the Champ playing like a Berzerker in AC2 but that was before they did the revamps and stuff. I wish there was a tumerok FI type race/class in this game. Hated men in AC2 as well, so it's just gonna have to be hobbit lol.

Also in general I kinda wish they could have put the polish they have but into LoTRO in AC2 instead, so many things remind me of that game. They reuse a lot of the textures and sounds from that game. I am hoping I can get far enough to have it stop bugging me that way. Too bad Microsoft killed that game because Turbine really tried to both make it work and save it. I still have my original game box

Overall,  I would say I still think AC2 was a better game, it was my first MMO so I am biased but I find they took some of the best classes and mixed them all up for LoTRO. I am getting the feeling like burglar gonna have some of the sorc type skills with some enchanter mez mixed in for the cc later on.

Also I hope I get a chance to do some of the books, in AC2 I always enjoyed the Vaults. I think the books are gonna be like those just more complicated. On my way to bree, I walked into the old forest and I must say I really was impressed with the effects.

I tihnk you will really like the burlgar class more and more as you progress. You will get alot more Crowd control and you will also get several skills that opens up Fellowsip manouvers (this is one of burglars main roll in groups). Burlgars also get alot of wierd but cool skills that makes it a really unique class! Never tried AC2 but Ive heard alot of good stuff about it so Im sad Ill never get to try it..

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Ya, gonna try to stick it out and just level more, overall I think this will be the class for me if I am gonna play LoTRO.

AC2 was a great game in a lot of ways and served as the building blocks for not only Turbines newer games DDO and LoTRO(they use the AC2 engine) but I also think WoW. Turbine took a step backwards in some ways with DDO and LoTRO with greater use of instancing.

AC2 was semless world like WoW is, the only instances were the Vaults(like LoTRO books) and the guild halls. The dungeons were all non-instanced although some of them had portals multiple groups could be in the same ones.  WoW skill tree I think was influenced by AC2 skill tree system. Also it was one of the first MMO's to have fast more arcade like combat. They also had a Neat RvR system with 3 factions like DAOC, but no real point in RvR until much later on.

Unfortunately it had a lot of problems at launch and MS was to blame in a lot of ways for lack of funding and they were the ones that handled the chat servers which made a lot of people quit. Imagine a MMO without guild chat lol. I think it had only about 50k subscribers total but was a pretty good game I think, but failed to capture the AC fans and was pretty buggy.

I ended up quiting to play SWG when it launched and did the whole Jedi thing. Ended up being a pre pub 9 Jedi and perhaps the most unlucky of them all mastering all 32 professions at least once to obtain lol.

So despite it's faults like most peoples first MMO's it will always be one of my favorites and I will always have a soft spot for Turbine with their free monthly content updates.

WoW for all it good qualities and polish, blizzard really burns the player base if you think about it. No MMO has ever made as much money as WoW does and they could give so much more back to the players if they wanted to. I am not a WoW basher either being I've played it since Stress Test 2 in 2004.

Anyways enough rambling form me lol, Cheers
