Damn, FC are persistent FCKers. They already start to crank out next batch of material on TestLive. Ymirs Pass has the focus in this patch so fare. Looking specially forward to see what this one is about * Quest: Vale of Lost Women - Harem girls now have a waymarker.
Heading of to Test live now.
Here we go:
CLASSES
Priest General
* Vitalizing Jolt and other friendly area spells will now properly hit the caster, in Massive PvP zones.
Ranger
* Armor Ripper III will no longer debuff yourself.
NPC
* Patrolling guards will always resume their patrol if they get distracted while patrolling.
PVP
* Khopshef Province Redemption quests should have more correct dialog.
* Outlaw Smuggler NPCs will now show the cost of teleporting you in their dialog.

* NPC: The Spirit of Khan should now aggro players properly.
* Quest: A Call to the Clan - Firewood is now removed after you have used it to build the fire.
* Quest: The Calm Before the Storm now has waypoints.
* Quest: The Darkness in the Swamps - You must now be at least level 54 to get this quest.

WORLD DESIGN
* Fixed a rendering bug that caused the sky to "lag behind" camera movement.

Isn't this just the add on to the patch having the entire Ymirs pass region in place.
What is neat about this update is that it also checks to see if you have a specific file in relation to which Direct X version your using, which to me quite possibly might indicated things are moving closer to DX10 going up.
Also they say about the format for patch numbering is this now "Please note... we have changed the format for naming future updates with this update. From here on, instead of seeing the format 'Update 3.1' for example, future updates will be named 1.03.1, 1.04.1, etc. "
Hand's out thinfoil hat, "DX10" offcourse we are
Tranny-baby, any idea how long they've been promising Ymir's Pass?
That's right. Months. It's not new, nor have they been "fast" with content, as you are painfully tryiing to make it appear. It's really quite embarrassing.
Look, it's not June anymore. AoC didn't "just come out". This, like everything else they've done, has been a long time coming - and in fact, it's still not out.
This game is almost a half a year old, and it's still a paper-thin MMO. They persist in making promises, but they move at a snail's pace. They have a long, LONG way to go before they've added the multitude of systems and changes to the game necessary before it can be considered a deep MMO experience.

not saying anything good or bad about the current state of AoC.
But to be fair, No major MMO has added a new zone as fast as funcom has.
Wasnt Ymirs originally slated for August?
I just wish they had taken the extra year ( obvious from the amount of things they still have yet to add that should have been on at launch) to fully develop the game. I hate to see loyal customers pay for them to finish these things.

I find it very hard to give them credit when its pretty obvious that they launched with things half complete. What I mean was the 'new zones" were close to being finished anyway but the devs were stuck answering to out of touch mangement timelines. Six months would have saved them so much money in the long run and so many headaches and bad press.

That’s not true. But I do want to bring up that every single art asset in this game is about 3-5 times more complicated than any other MMO.
You people need to chill out, and get some perspective.

Just to be accurate, they haven't added it yet, and there's no telling exactly when it will be added.
There are still a few outstanding things - things like drunken brawling, DX10, etc - that were supposed to be in the game at launch, that also are not in the game yet.
The game was released short on content, and it still remains short on it. In my opinion, the game was released far too early, which resulted in the vast majority of these types of oversights.
They finally added a lackluster PvP rep grind system about a month and a half ago. This, for a supposedly PvP-centric game.
By the way, can anyone tell me what exactly is PvP-centric about AoC? Is is the fact that PvP is possible? Or is it the battlekeep siege system, which only a small handful of the total playerbase can or will participate in, given the nature of the system?
Where, oh where, is Kingship when you need it? How 'bout them Powerpoints?
Whatever happened to formations?
More stream of consciousness - will spellweaving ever be useful? Given a system that was as hyped as that one was - what a complete and total failure!
How's the server merge/character transfer thing going, by the way? Have they even announced for a fact that it will happen, and if so, when? It took Mythic all of two or three weeks to announce and then execute them - seems they were able to figure out the technology, so why not Funcom? It might be nice for those of us on dead servers, and there are a lot of them, to be able to play against someone with a pulse without having to reroll (essentially fixing Funcom's failure for them).
This just in: with the last patch, the status of the crafting system has officially been raised from "Worst in the MMO industry" to just "really, really bad". Congrats!
That feels better.

I can think of few things more subjective to speak about than art, but to me, technically complicated graphics do not make quality art in a game. In my opinion, the art direction and design of AoC is quite lackluster, and I don't think it really captures the look or feel of Hyboria very well.
As someone else pointed out before, when I think of Conan-esque art, I think of Frazetta. AoC's vision is not gritty enough, not dark enough, not raw enough. It looks too bright and antiseptic for the world it is supposedly portraying.
In short: the graphics are detailed and semi-realistic, but to me, they don't inspire the awe or wonder of being in the brutal world of Conan.

My comment had nothing to do with subjective nature of art, and everything to do with the reality that every asset in the game is technically more complicated than any other mmo. Case in point, even an axe has at least 4 texture layers (color, normal, Specularity, and detail) if not more. Not even going to touch the pipeline required for hi resolution models to low poly models and normial mapping.

It seems you don't keep up with the news. Drunken Brawling got canned for now, same with powerpoints and kinship from the old director where the new one wants to evaluate them better. As for formations then went out at the start of the year... So the only thing people can moan about now is DX10 off the box... oh and to keep harping on about the past, fact is that list is getting smaller. When Dx10 for AoC launches it will have a lot more dx 10 features than any other mmo, got this far without it another short while is technically not going to do any harm. Ymirs pass has been on test for a while and I reckon should be on live within a few weeks. Only other game that put a whole new zone out was GW with Sorrows Furnace some 7 months after release.
looks like they are asking people to update their DX in advance and in time for the next update:

Updating DirectX
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the next update for Age of Conan will be made available in the near future, players will have to upgrade their DirectX to the lastest version or they won't be able to enter the game. The launcher will detect this when the update is out and give the appropriate message of course.
We suggest that players update to the latest DirectX version before to safe some time on the day of the update. The following URL links to the DirectX Web Installer on the Microsoft Donwload Center website:

If you get an error when trying to download please try again a little later on.
Yupp. Players are asked to get their ducks in a row for the DirectX10. Salty!!!!!

Not true.
LoTRo came out April 24th, 2007
They released Evendim on June 13th, 2007

So in a bit less than 2 months; LoTRo/Turbine had a new area up and running.

I guess I should have quoted your post AA... read the previous one first though. Oh well. Won't repeat everything I posted in the previous post. But your statement of:
"Only other game that put a whole new zone out was GW with Sorrows Furnace some 7 months after release."
is just plain wrong.
Check up on the updates that LoTRo put out... the first one: Evendim; came out in less than 2 months. It was a "whole new zone". Added quite a bit of needed content for the mid-levels. That addition made those levels a lot smoother in getting to the level-cap.
They had to do something to hide the biggest exploid ever released into a live game. Throwing out halffinished content is what FC is best at. And it seems like they are getting even better.
I predict 3 months until this patch comes out.
And about the dx 10.... You guys ever heard of PR... THats Funcom !!

Yep sorry, meant to of put "to my knowledge", was one of those lines where you type and think something different haha!
DirectX 10 was a main selling point for this game and it was included and is included, now not so prominently, on Microsofts Games for Windows site. http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Games/Pages/featGames.aspx
Its just a way to get people to install the latest directx , there are some fixes in there which improves performance and some stability problems.
it has nothing to do with directx 10 unfortunatly.

You do understand that just becasue its "canned" for now doesnt excuse that they launched without the things mention that were supposed to be in at release.
Also the list getting smaller does is held to the same standard. Given an infinite amount of time everything could be fixed but that doesn not excuse the misleading that went on before launch
Also check LOTRO for new zone releases as I think they did one on under 7 months. Could be wrong about that though as its been some time ago ( oops sorry . Someone already mentioned it.)
Drunken Brawling was atleast canned official before launch , but directx10 + 64bit executables was promised just weeks before ( dont ask me to look for the video , but there was a video interview where this was stated ), this was maybe the worst pr mistake ever , ymirs pass and the notoritory system was announced for a release in july.
And i understand people gets pissed by something like this , but since august or something , no insance non promisable dead lines have been set, even if they are using a phrase which they really dont deserve to use, its done when its done and only give a litte bit a information when things will be available , its way better than flat out lying , i am not sure they even tried to lie , but the game director didnt have a clue about how long development work takes , dont thrust your developers , i am a developer myself , if i say 1 week , quadruple that and make it 4 weeks. sometime i hit my own targets , but usually i am to optimistic of my own skills tbh.
Sorry...got the hopes up for nothing...as is usual.
"No, this is not the case. If you read the title of that thread, it says that DirectX Update is required to play. We are ensuring people have the most updated version of DirectX to help with game performance. This update will force people to get the latest DirectX that is out there to ensure this."

For everyone talking about Evendim in LOTRO it was a zone which had started to been developed before launch. ymi'rs and Tarantia commons are both started after launch. The first truly "new" zone in LOTRO not counting the angmar revamp would have been the misty mountains expansion if I remember correctly. Either that or Forochel.
Actually no it was Evendim as stated earlier. And as I stated earlier do you think that given the date AOC launched that they would would have been able to pump out Ymirs by August as the initially said if it wasnt very far along?
And unless you work for FC you would have no way of knowing unless you just went by their word which would just be silly given their history. Heck I bet if someone was bored they could find where FC themselves said that Ymirs was astarted before the game launched.
