Need to pick someones brains

I was listing to the radio when somone on it mentioned a MMORPG in which there are three civilisations and they are at constant war with each other, the usual, but one thing that did catch my ear was that there were three relics in the game and the nations fought over them? I though that the sound of that rocked, anyone know what the MMORPG was?????

Cheers for the beers

No idea about which one but thanks for replying so damn quickly, you guys got any prefrence for MMORPG? that a newbie should try?

  • Sage.hSage.h Member Posts: 15

Well... World of Warcrat (WOW) and Everquest 2 (EQ2) should be coming out next month.  I'd highly suggest trying one or the other.

In regards to your first question, I'm pretty sure you were referring to DAOC... It's a 3 realm war in which they fight for control of various forts and 2 relics for each realm.

I would suggest playing World of Warcraft. The Open Beta comes out any day now so you can try before you buy the retail. the game looks very promising. I would also look into Everquest II or Dark Age of Camelot.

All of those titles would be great to play.

While DAOC was/ is a good game.  I'd suggest waiting for WOW or EQ2 rather than beginning to play DAOC now.  Your best mmorpg experience is usually your first one, so I'd wait for the two big games that will keep you interested for awhile.

And if you are going to choose Everquest II or World Of Warcraft which both come out on around the same date, you should do some research. www.worldofwarcraft.com www.everquest2.com

If you are into PVP Battlegrounds and alliance vs alliance combat then go WoW.

If you are into no PVP at all and rather do quests go with EQII

I am personally going with WoW. I think WoW looks more promising but then again i am a WoW Fan boyimage. Dont take me wrong, i played EQ for 3 years and i loved it but in the end it looks like WoW wins me over.

Well, you wont be able to find a good mmorpg with no subscription. If you really dont want to pay, wait for Guild Wars which looks OK but its not my kindve game.

    Captain,

WOW open beta will probably be out in the next week.  So you'll be able to play without spending a dime for a couple weeks.  Beyond betas, most mmorpgs worth playing will cost a monthly fee.  I realize many people disagree with my prior statement, but it's only my opinion.

Did the original poster ever ask what MMO he should be playing? I don't think I ever seen it. I suggest that people stop pushing games down other people's throat. I don't see the point in doing this. He asked what game the radio was talking about the the first thing that people say is "oh try this, try that." Its just starting to annoying me. I see it in every damn post about anything. *sigh*

Ok well lets see, the original poster's question was answered and then someone asked what games a noobie should try out. At what moment does it affect you that a question was answered with EQII or WoW?

The poster asked about the name of the game he was describing, and then asked what game I would suggest he play.

Sorry that my trying to help him offends you... sheesh

Nah man, I said I didn't see his post that asked that. I missed it inbetween the other posts cuz it was small and didn't have all the flashy sigs and whatnot. So in light of that, its all good. I'm just like ranting about all the others that do it, even in posts that don't even ask for it. Basicly I'm just spouting stuff that should be cept to myself and appologize for starting it in the first place.

image It's all good.  I'm just slightely bitter about WOW not being in open beta.  Was hoping it would keep me busy this weekend, lol.

    Sage.h

P.S: I understand your point though.  I'm a WOW and EQ2 "fanboy."  From most topics on this board that's blasphemy.  image

Yeah, as for a free MMO RYL is pretty fun. My son plays it all the time.

However if you aren't into PvP so much as RYL supports you can go check out RoE (Rubies of Eventide) it is also a free MMO and has a lot more abilities than RYL.

But, if you do decide you would like to play one of the BIG titles and P2P.

You have WoW if you enjoy PvP (Alliance vs Horde) with a nice questing system. Yet graphics tend to be more towards bright colors that have been labeled as cartoony.

However for EQ2 it is more of a Adventure Role Play with also a nice questing system. The graphics there are different than of WoW. Some say (from screenshots) it looks like plastic glossy affect, however the motion ingame tends to change that in which you don't see it that way.

If you do however decide to read more on about these to I suggest going to

    http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/ for WoW

    or

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/ for EQ2

I know this has already been mentioned but I think he needed unbias information rather than the force deception from Nimrod4154

The game the radio was talking about is called Dark Age of Camelot or otherwise known as DAOC.

  • diegolinkdiegolink Member Posts: 195
Yeah, the name is Dark Age of Camelot, BTW if you wait for EQ2/WoW buy WoW cuz it has PvP (your interest with DAoC is because PvP am I right?)

  • RudnocRudnoc Member Posts: 208

Hmm, Everyone that has played DAoC knows that is the answer.

  • Captain_EndCaptain_End Member Posts: 16
My thanks Tyrgris for the tip with RoE (Rubies of Eventide), I do enjoy PvP but would also like there to be alot more to the game. I am one of thoes people who enjoy the fighting and raiding, but would also like to do other things aswell, basically i would like to do what ever the hell i wanted.

I woudl have defonentaly signed up for a monthly one if DaDO was more PvP, but alas it isnt. I checked out the RoE and the free trail only lasts ten days and i would have hated enjoying it and then not being able to sign up, being a student means i pretty tight with ma cash, so i will stick with RYL

Anyway thanks alot for all the help and with the DaOC.

    Cheers for the Beers
