If the Nov. 16th release date is to be held wouldnt u think it should go gold anytime now? Halo2 is komin out Nov 9th n it went gold last week, what are your thoughts/predictions???
What does it mean if WoW goes gold? Is it that a certain amount of copies has been preordered? It is not like CD sales because they must actually be sold in order to get a title of gold. so what is it?
When a game has 'Gone Gold', this means that it is ready for release. That the game is COMPLETE, and ready to be produced by whoever is the producer. From this Gold point, it's usually about a month 'til the game hits the shelves, as it has to go through all disc-writing, and packaging, and shipping to the stores.
I doubt Blizzard will even announce a 'Gold date'. And when they do have the game ready for production, it will be faster because my guess is that they producer have everything ready. All the need to do is throw the discs in the box.
My prediction: even the almighty Blizzard must answer to someone...and that someone is Vivendi and every other company that stands to profit from a Nov. 15th/16th release. They must release by that date in order to have the game available for the busiest shopping season of the year. If they miss this Nov. 15th date they lose TONS of money, not to mention the additional subscribers they may lose if EverQuest II goes gold before they do.
This world revolves around money sadly enough, and Blizzard is not exempt from decisions made because of money, regardless if every beta tester in the game now thinks more work needs to be done before open beta starts and the game launches shortly after. Mmorpg's constantly evolve, they are never "finished". Blizz had this game in development forever and a day...it's time...and that time is mid November.

!. When software, in this case games, say it's 'gone gold', it's a reference to the gold master disc that is sent to the manufacturer which is used to produce all the cd's/dvd's that are in the actual box you buy. So when a game goes gold, that just means it's done, until the patch, and on it's way to the manufacturer.
2. My understanding, as far as games go, is that retailers require the games to be on the shelf by mid Nov for the holiday shopping season, otherwise they have to wait til mid Jan, or thereabouts. Mind you, this is just what I hear from people working at Best Buy, etc., so it may or may not be entirely correct. But I don't remember any games being released in Dec in recent memory. And it makes sense with how much money is poured into getting your dollar at the retail level. Everything from the color of the carpet, to the music, even the smell of the place in many instances has been analysed to death to find the most effective way to get you into the store and spending as much as possible. Especially at Xmas. So either WoW, and EQ2 will release on Nov 16th give or take one week, or they'll be out mid Jan. after the holiday rush. Given I don't see either one passing up the almighty dollar, I expect both games will be out shortly.
That being the case, I have to give the nod to WoW, for being more complete at this point. The bugs and problems I've seen so far are few and far between compared to EQ2, where I'm still sitting on my ass waiting for them to fix the Heritage quest I am on, so I can continue. Not to mention the people that can't do the access quest for Fallen Gate, which means many, if not all, of the lvl 20 classes armor quests can't be completed. And god forbid if you try the betrayal quest. I'm not sure who I feel more sorry for at this point. the EQ2 devs, or the players. Probably the devs. Not only will they have to put in 25 hour days for the next couple of weeks/months, but the players will still rip them a new ass over everything after it's all said and done, even though it's not their decision to release the game.

That we will get a gold announement this week with beta signups!
It's nearly impossible for blizzard to get the game out by November 16th. I think the game will be ready around December 1st.

A week before the official announced release? Just a random guess.

Yes, I think that is exactly what it means. The part about the certain amount of preorders.
