Did DDO ever add the ability to play from a first person point of view?

no they did not, it is still third person view only
there's a pseudo fps view although you're still going to see the back of your character's head. Using this as a reason to not play the game is a poor decision to base one's platforms. If you must only play games that are fps and do not show a character somewhere on the screen I would advise sticking to the wonderful online nature of Xbox Live and Halo or Call of Duty.
Personally, I am glad there's no true-fps view for if there were we would have all kinds of idjits disrupting the game 'cs they couldn' t see their surrondings, where to stand before jumpin let alone when to jump and would be a constant thorn in the side for everyone else involved.
sorry, don't mean to be mean. If FPS games are your calling then DDO's offering is only to expand your horizons.
