I have an issue with the ratings. Not that it rates a certain game better than another and that it is "bullsh*t because the other game is way more l33t". Many people are just posting reviews for the sake of ranting about. That is not only the case on this site but everywhere on the internet. I can't change it so I'll try to live with it.
But I am talking about corporate interference.
I have looked at the top 5 for about a month now since I first joined. Eve Online was mostly #1 with a rating of 8.2 or 8.3. It was trading places with Anarchy Online (my personal favorite but that is beside my point) a few times but most of the time EO was on top. All but AO had a steady 8.2 rating. Due to the amount of posts made by people the rating of a game does nearly not change if a person changes its average rating from a 10 to a 1 or the other way around. It takes quite a few people to alter the rating of a game.
I have not checked in on this page for a few days. And what do I see: a new game on top of the rest. That is not so much the issue but that all other games have actually dropped. 0.1 of a point. Not just one but all of them. And that the #1 of a few days ago is suddenly below AO. I think this is suspicious. People can change their minds. But not whole flocks of them all at once just because there is a new game. And the ratings are not relative. A higher mark in one game does not alter the mark of another. Also, the new reviews are virtually all negative and only one line long. No justification what so ever. This was allways an issue in my view but it has dramatically worsened the last few days.
So what are you saying? Well I believe that there has been some sort of campaign to alter the stats in favour of The Saga Of Ryzoom. The investments in these game are in the millions and not all publishers/developers have the (marketing) resources Sony has. So I believe they are reverting to this trick of stat maniplation. Am I seeing ghosts where in fact only the wind plays with curtains?
I am not a fanboy of a certain game. I only played one mmorpg in my life wich is AO. I do not have the time in RL atm to learn a new game so I will probably stick with it. Hardly even have time for AO anyway. No need for me to trashtalk TSR.
What are your views on this? And please no: "omg you sux0rz you n00b". Please give some constructive remarks.

Depending how long it was before you last posted, Admin redid the scoring system...
Took out all the people who just made an account to post a score and that's it... he did a lot to the system... so I guess these are the "true" scores...

i mean, even if you can't tell by the picture, it says the name right under it, so it was just a point being made.
and playing on the ratings, the best games usually don't have the highest ratings because they are popular, more people rate them
games like EvE do not have as many votes... (i haven't rated that one personally...even though I think it sucks)
and there was a step forward to prevent this "omg jo0 n00b suczozroz" bs by not allowing anyone to rate a game until they achieved a certain ranking themselves. Sure that has helped it a lot, i mean, you have wow fanboys that would just subscribe to the site to give eqii a low rating! even though they are not in beta!
as far as the changing ratings go I'm not so sure on that one, but uhm..

I highly doubt any company is making dummy accounts or paying people on MMO.com to boost their game's rankings. I don't think they care that much. The game is ranked based on an average and is only a general representation of what the community believes. Don't take the ranking quite so seriously as it means very little as far as what game is good and what isn't.
On a side note isn't it funny that these posts seem to be started by AO players who don't know why EO is in the lead? lol...we had a post similar to this pretty recently that was made by an AO player ranting about EO being on top. No offense to original poster.

Hold the phone there. First of all you resurrected a post 3 weeks dead and you say "you have nothing better, more constructive to say about this topic??" The very act of you bringing a dead post back 10 pages to the front isn't very constructive at all.
Plus, if I wanted to be "constructive" about it I would have simply told you to do a search on the forums as this issue has been brought up and answered by the staff several times and then it would have been locked.
Since you are aware of the "search" feature above your login information, I would advise you to search for the the answer to your orginal question as it is there.
Finally, the Hehe wasn't directed towards you, hence the quote towards Djin. The "hehe" statement was made beause he spelled Vincent Van Gogh's name wrong. It wasn't directed towards your post whatsoever. So breath please.

i'm now a big fan of mir3 ...thats the one from mir3europe.com not the other one...
and i've noticed that most of the comments that obviously made it go low in the rankings were one where people said they hated the previous version and not even tried the game that was being rated.
dont get me wrong, this post is only a whinge and not really a specific moan, but it does make you wonder if theres a difference between the reasons which the origiinal poster comments on and normal players distorting proper votes... sod knows if theres a way round it or not though...
right enough of this i am off to play a game where voters here seem to not like the graphics but gameplay rules!
