It seems like everyone I have talked to has said one thing or another about Guild Wars. Those that are really into PvP are ranting and raving about one time payment, large scale, new age PvP game. Those that aren't too interested in PvP on the other hand are still looking into it because they say it's something else to do whien they're sick of the same old thing. And then everyone else is hopping on the band wagon to avoid the EQ2 vs. WoW debate.
My prediction is so many people will buy this game out of either curiousity or convenience and the servers will be far too crowded. They will probably end up being forced to introduce a monthly fee out of necessity, simply to keep adding more servers and updates. I am really hoping this one time payment thing works out(excluding expansions), but doubt that it will.

No, that would kill their whole marketing scheme. Thats absurd. The more people=The more servers, as well, the more people=More money to pay for those servers.

The devs have made a guarantee that there will never ever be a monthly charge, and since the game's been in development for about three years I assume they've done their research.
I'm sure the game will be absolutely packed out at first just as with any new game...
Holy crap! The devs guaranteed something? And this guarantee is good for what exactly, besides guaranteeing a increase in sales.
The devs will never introduce a monthly fee.. if they have to add more servers then no big deal they can take down those extra servers if they aren't being fully used later on as well without disturbing anyone.. People have the choice to take their existing characters to any server they want at any given time, so adding or removing servers is not a problem. If you played at E3 you would know that if your friends were on a different server when logging in for the day you simply clicked the server(realm) tab and jumped to that other server(realm) with your character intact. That jump takes about 2 seconds before your screen loads into the town. The more the people the better.. If they have to add more servers than this game is doing better than they originaly thought it would.
Guild Wars can be adapted by a lot of different style of people out there.. PVP, PVE, the ones who want to chat. The fact that there is no monthly fee just means that you can play Guild Wars along side one of the other main MMORPG's. I think Guild Wars will make the perfect comliment style game for the hard core gamers who want a slight change for a day.. and for the casual gamer who just wants 1 or 2 hours a week and still be able participate in all the events.
The monthy fee will be in the form of 50 dollar expansions every 4 months or so. If you think, they are gonna run an MMo for free you really have to be stupid.
With the huge cost of running an MMo, it will be interesting to see how well Guild Wars will be doing after a year or two.

I am guessing after 3 months the hype (hype? I wouldn't even call it that) would die and it'll settle nicely with a 5,000 user base on two or three servers who will keep buying more and more expansions and other paid ingame services.
As for myself, I'll save me the time and money on that game and if I get extremely bored playing EQ/EQ2/PS I just might considering trying the trial version when it's out.

meh... i think the game is gonna be a huge hit and will stay that way for quite a while...
remember, they're not running servers in the typical MMORPG way, therefore are saving themselves a poop load of money... if they were running traditional MMORPG servers they would probably need a monthly fee...

GW runs on thousands of seamingless servers in the background whch look like its one server. The seperate each area into districts which if one distric gets full then another is automatically created. At any time any person can enter any distric that available therefor being able to meet up with anyone at any time.
So basicaly crowding will never be an issue.

If you want more of a faster pased "twitch/skill" based game... then this is your best bet.
It's fun, it shares some ideas that MMORPGs have... but it's all about PvP...
What will he do next?
LOL
I assume the same...... but don't doubt. They will stay free of monthly fee. It's most logical thing that you can think of at this point.
GW is backed by pursuit of new ideas, excellence in content, pro-consumer marketing strategy.
My impression is that GW is one of few games in this business that are completely into "customer-is-why-we-do-business" which is good bothways
I also believe that the game will stay off the normal monthly fee. The monthly fee will be in the form of expansion packs that wont be on the cheap side.. BUT here is the difference.. if they dont do a good job on the exp. packs they wont sell many since customers have to option of buying them or not..
This is really what will attract most people to it. This is GW's way of competing in the market. IF they ever add a monthly fee they will most likely introduce it in a voluntary way and will give you something really cool for it..
ok the only reason guild wars is known right now is for there consumer-is-what-we-are-here-for attitude. If they did put a monthly fee it would because of NC (the company that also made lineage 2 ). personally i like the old school feel to this mmorpg. it doesnt feel like a real mmorpg unless you go into the big towns.
plus i have already bought the pre-order so its better to think they wont add a monthly fee.

no offense, but you seem to know very little about this game and the topic in general. ok, so i do mean offense. the people behind this game are many of the most talented online game developers in the business. perhaps you've heard of diablo? warcraft? how much did you have to pay to use battle.net? they know what they are doing and if they say it they mean it.
this team has the most focused and intelligent development plan of any online game i've followed. the alpha e3 release was farther along than most mmo's in open beta. if you ever read up on mmo development you will learn about the many pitfalls and money-pits associated with making a mmo. the clever pseudo-mmo design of guild wars bypasses these.
there will be expansions as the company has promised but you know what? EVERY ONLINE GAME HAS EXPANSIONS!!! it keeps the game interesting. please flame me...i dare you

Almost certainly.
This game sound fantastic...a little too fantastic for me to believe them. I mean a full on MMORPG with no monthly fee, no need to buy expacs as they wont make you better in PVP, instancing up the wazoo with live streaming content and the ability to alter the game world forever. Then theres the 'real life' physics allowing you to take higher and lower ground and hit legs/heads for increased dmg & effect.
Then to top it all off, once they have already promised the earth, the moon on a stick and to give everyone a golden goose they say they will put everyone on one server and there will be no lag . I know EVE does this but that game has no real 'physics' as such to deal with, no line of sight issues etc and they struggled for a long time.
