MMO of your dreams...

Just wondering....

If you could create a MMORPG from any existing property, what would it be?  Why and what cool feature would it have?

I'd like to see a Godfather mmo.  It would be a mutlifactional game with the different families representing the different factions.

You could have aging, so as your avatar starts out as a young boy or girl and then you run errands for different mobsters getting a feel for which family suits your play style.  As you advance through the game and reach certain milestones, you would age.

Customization would be with sliders probably, affording the player the abiity  to customize their toon.  And as you progressed through the game, you could unlock prestige customization options, like tattoos, scars, a new kind of walk or special taunts or signature moves, stuff like that.

They could add a mentoring mechanic, so players further along could take you under their wings.  These mentors could pick and choose from a list of different mission options to customize a mission and make it unique.  XP/rep/ and monetary rewards would be commensurate with the complexity of the quest.

The environment would be one very large city, which would be sectioned off into areas controlled by the various factions as well as other rival gangs controlled by the computer.  One gameplay objective would be to take over the city.  Each territory you take over increases your rep and income, but also makes you a bigger target for police as well as the other factions.  Rep rewards would be mostly prestige items that would not affect gameplay so as not to create imbalance.  Maybe NPC's would treat you with extra deference and respect.  Examples: clothing, upgraded living quarters,  better looking cars, weapons that maybe look cooler but are not unbalancing.  And if your family loses rep, you lose your prestige items.

Many ingame items would be craftable, including weapons, food, drink, clothing, furniture, etc.  Crafters would be able to own their own store fronts.  Stores would be attackable and atleast partially lootable by rival gangs.  Difficulty would be very difficult with with npc's (police) and/or  your territories gangs  defending.  You can only buy crafted items from your own territory, so combatant players are reliant upon crafters to set up shop and have a vested interest in defending.  And crafters have a vested interest in providing a good service to their territories gang to keep them in business.

The game would be skill based ofcourse, but points would be limited.  You would have the ability to reroll any time.  Only two avatars per realm.

Police and henchmen for hire would be available for a price.  Example, your territories liquor store is being knocked over but you don't have people on too defend.  With adequate rep or money, you can hire police or henchmen to defend.  You can also bribe npc's to missions go easier perhaps.

Anyway, these are some ideas off the top of my head.  I could go on but now I need to lay down.

Shadowrun... With some players playing corps and other runners. Corp players should be able to hire in runners to do they dirty works and make that specific corp get ahead of the other ones...

Stealing secrets, sabotage competitioners and so on. The pen and paper RPG are awesome.

As a second one I would love a MMO version of "Warhammer fantasy roleplaying game", leveless and following the original RPG rules, would be awesome. WAR is kinda following the tabletop with a pinch of Wow and DaoC but the really brilliant Warhammer stuff are from the RPG.

The third alternative would be a MMO based on Biowares "Neverwinter nights", 'nuff said.

    hmmm..

Skills the way Pre-SWG.. It was so awesome, to go up here and there and make your character to unique :)

Arcanum Character wise.. What you can make there is really unbeliable.. it blew me away.. You can start as a REFUGEE FROM A MENTAL INSTITUTION!  and be really stupid and cant really talk to NPC cause you to dumb, but could be like a crazy warrior.. You can start as a bandit, Sickly Child, Ladys man, and so on... Its really cool..   There is no Avatar customization thou, like hair, height and so on.. That should get kicked in :) hehe

It should be in 3rd person, in my opinion..

hmm.. There should be a lot to do in it.. and there should be 3 or 4 factions, and there should be sub groups.. So if your fighter, you could join that faction and get a certain item from them that boost the general warrior skill or you could go deeper to the sub-groups, and focus the DPS Section of the fighter or tank, so you lose the general boost, but makes it more specific to what you want :)

ooh and they should add like normal character, hardcore character, and ultimate character, like in Shaiya! I think thats so awesome! with Ultimates be tougher but takes more exp to lvl up, they can use more deadly weapons, and different quests and so on..

hmm.. Crafting should also be there, and not just some crappy thing, but really some nice deep Crafting Section, which you can also lvl up with.. So when you craft you actually get experience, so if your a no fighter person you can actually accomplish something in the game :)

PvP Servers, and Non-PvP servers (Unless you tag your self) Huge battle Arena Events :D hehe Something kinda like Dynasty warriors.. now I know that would be near impossible due lag and stuff, but it would be so awesome :D

ooh god so many ideas! haha

I think I could go on and on.. With classes, Places, Raids, Quests, Guilds, and so on!

    I should make a MMO! :P heh

A Forgotten Realms MMO. The lore and history is already there and in a DnD ruleset and an open world, One could roll out content on a weekly basis with a talented team.

Colonial Marines vs. Predator vs. Aliens.

I have no idea why that hasn't even been mentioned within the MMO dev community yet. After half a dozen movies and a dozen games, you'd think they would've thought about an MMO version by now.

I would totally rock the Colonial Marines. Each Alien Player Character should have like up to 3 or 5 character models at a time depending on their level. Like each player runs a small squad of aliens. Ala Granada Espada. Predators would be pre-dominantly stealth players with 1 hit kills. And Colonial Marines should have supreme firepower but easy to take down if you're not the subject of his fury.

    /dream

    /edit

Imagine the gameplay could be so different with each faction. Marines go out and clear hives. Respond to distress calls. Cleans planets. Predators go out and collect trophies and go on hunts together in small groups or solo, against Aliens or Marines, dropping in from their home planet. Aliens make more aliens and spread to more planets.

I would love to play a BattleTech/MechWarrior themed MMO. Fighting on the either side of Davion/Steiner or Kurita would be cool. Even as one of the invading Clans such as a Ghost Bear or Smoke Jaguar would be totally awesome.

I would design a game with 3 factions. the good, the bad, and the ugly. set in a mad max world, the good guys would be people that play paladin style, they dont grief kill, they prefer order, their cities are utopian, and beucase of thier righteous lifestyles and technologically advanced society they are given mechs to use as thier vehicles. ill go into that faction more later, the second ones would be the middle faction, guys like mad max, when he was on his own in road warrior, they have vehicles, and weapons, and they solo alot. they are vigilantes. the 3rd faction would be the punished, the guys they may have belonged to the other two factions, but were expelled becuase of thier bad choices. this faction would be the guys in road warrior with the mohawk, driving salvaged vehicles, barbarians.

the game would have to be a vast wasteland for the most part, with roads, and wilderness, filled with savage animals.

back to the good guys, thier cities would be beautiful, think elven beauty, with polished glistening machinery, they live well, housing, agriculture inside cities of safety, hidden away from the deserts of waste. the only requirement to belong to this society is to be truly a citizen of honor, to protect the innocent, to contribute to the community, each citizen would have a standard job, they would be required to perform, farming, building houses, crafting furnishings for homes, or crafting the parts and ammo, for the mechs, and the mechs themselves. these mechs will be defensive, slow, and susceptible to destruction but not capture. this faction will also control the gas, since they will manufacture it, right outside thier cities. they are programed to operate for the pilots that are thier drivers only. these citizens would pay taxes and rent to maintain thier citizenship. anyone that doesnt pay gets exiled to the desert, and given the basics for survival.

the bad guys, arent really that bad, they are the exiled, they have a city, like the one in thunderdome where they can trade, craft, and gamble, and survive. they will be allowed jobs, and housing, but wont be required to pay taxes since they are only out for themselves, thier vehicles will be defensive, moderately fast, think armor plated camaro. with boobytraps, and weapons that can be fired while driving, there greatest abilities will be to leave the competition in the dusk, out survive, and outrun the enemy. these are your bounty hunters.

the 3rd and last faction (the uglies) will be savages, that can prey on each other, or on different clans, they are numerous and desperate. they will have barbarian lifestyles. salvagers by trade they survive by capturing mechs or vehicles of the exiled, and scrap them for parts to create thier hideous machine monstrocities. they have the most diverse range of vehicles and weapons. but they have no renewable source of gas. so they have to steal it.

i guess the only thing to do is figure out how to get them to fight each other.

the good guys would have to leave town to manufacture and keep there gas refineries secure, they are defensive fighters, so thier mechs would function like a paladin. they can fight, and defend, but they cant withstand a siege. or they get consumed. the goods will barter with the exiled. for certain things found out in the wastelands, since the goods cant go far from thier safe cities, they will require, new plant life and water, and other such things like resources that thier cities dont have.  but they would never trade with the savages.

the exiles are survived by trading commodities with the good, and the savages. but dealing with savages can be tricky and dangerous if you get yourself cornered or outnumbered. the only reason an exile would do business with savages is becuase they control all the water sources. which is needed by all.

obviously this game has some pvp. i would say the savages are populated from exiles that have lost too much honor. and are not accepted in the thunderdone city anymore. so have to resort to living among the savages to survive. losing honor is easy if you make the wrong choices, but gaining honor will be very hard to accomplish. unless you band together, and expend some time doing it. i would say the savages are open pvpers, they are at risk all the time. they have to protect themselves from the exiled and the good. not much fear from the good unless the savages attack them first. but the exiles can kill savages for bounty reasons but are limited to only ones they have accepted contracts for. the good can attack the savages only after having been attacked first, or if the savages are attempting to steal gas from them. by damaging thier refineries.

so i would say the Good are limited to PVE and a little defensive pvp.

the exiled are limited to bounties, no pvp agianst the good. and open pvp when openly engaged.

the savages are free to attack, kill, and salvage mechs, vehicles and weapons items armor, resources etc.

just an idea i had. i think it would be cool becuase people would have to live with the choices they make.

now it would be possible to make a new Good Guy, but if the game had limits set as to how soon you could start a new character, it would stop people from remaking. also i would incorporate things to eliminate gold farming, macroing, bots. and make it so that there would be no reason for these things in the game. i would have to elaborate more to describe the skill point system, and the vehicle, upgrades, and the evolution of your character. and the societal heirarchy in each faction and how to rank up in each. and what benefits that come with each new rank. and how to satisfy the progression bug we all have that gives us satisfaction of accomplishment.

but i want a smoke and thats all for now =P

i hope you like the idea

I would play that... in a heart beat I would play that.  1920's Mob wars in Chicago with a Film Noir backdrop... that would be awesome.

"The name's Alec Jones.  The goons on the streets call me "Casanova" Jones, because I'm friendly with the ladies."

"This town blows like a whore with a bad habit.  But the vodka hits like a hammer to the face, and you can find peace in the heavy wieght of a magnum strapped on your waist."

"Keep your head up, kid.  You'll find that the only thing worth dying over, is a pack of smokes or a bus ticket home."

"Where did it leave me?  It left me face down in a pile of "I'm screwed..." with the business end of a .45 digging into the back of my head, just itching to get friendly with the other side of my skull."

Writing narrative in this style never gets old!

  • Calintz333Calintz333 Member UncommonPosts: 1,193

It would have to be a game that has a low level cap around level 50. However it limites how much you can level per week. Example, Week 1 you can only get up to level 20, week 2 you can only get up to level 30, week 3 you can get up to 40 not only that but add Genkai missions (Which are totally group based strategy missions that you have to do in order to go above these level caps) I would want the game to be group based as well.

However there has to be more to do than just level, I would put tons of crafting an insane amount of weapons you can skill up, by simply killing monsters weapons never seen in mmorpgs before AND I MEAN NEVER EVER EVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRR SEEN in mmorpgs. Such as

    Tonfa

    Battle Cane

    Escrima sticks

    Nunchaku

    Weapons like these.

    + all the traditional favorites.

It would have to have regular CONTENT update not Level update. Such as FFXI, Every year It would have to have an expansion that adds more of a storyline   with new features, Example year 1 expansion adds pvp at a global scale, a new capital city and a entire storyline with cinematics ala guild wars.

PvP would have to be open world however limited to a number of kills per day, and punished if it goes over. Example Player A can only kill 3 players per day on the open world, if get goes over 3 players, a bounty is placed on him by NPCs where whoever kills him gets some gold. (Bonuty up until it pays the number of kills Said  player went over above the 3).

World does not have to be very large but it does have to have detail. Caves to explore areas under waterfalls, underwater caves you zone into, holes you fall into that are hidden by grass, where treaures lies (like the ones Ocarina of time had). lots of mystery and rewards for the explorers the people who want to explore.

Subscription fee at around 10 dollars a month, however a payment play for lifetime subscription at around 250 dollars.

story based questing, you don't do quests unless they are in some way relaited to the story or have their own mini storylines which are told with cinematics ala guild wars.

These are the features I want in a good solid game
