I just did something i never expected i will do

I just buy WOTLK before my 3 months warhammer game time end.

to strengthen the above statement, all i can say is, i hate WOW raiding and arena, yet i still prefer going back after a 6 months break, you can see how disappointed i am with WAR, i don't even have the mood to complete my level 39 BW with 2 bubbles left, and i am fed up of keep creating new characters, as queue time for low tier took longer and longer compare to last few weeks (same server and i tried both faction, i deleted my level 31 SW, i don't think i will ever delete a character around these level at other mmorpg), and considering LOTRO and WOW is about the same, surely i will choose a game where i already have 2 max level characters, and i have played more than WOW and WAR, i played guildwar , AOC, cabal and try out atlantica online (uninstall after half hour of game play) while on the 6 months break.

the only way for me to discribe WAR is, 'not worth it', this game is fun at the beggining, but just lack of end game content, considering lag and inbalance issue, i am not sure if RVR/world PVP is really that good compare to scenario/battleground, but anyway, i hope this game can be great in the future, as i know i will not stay in a game like WOW for long, at least there are more option to choose from when i am bored with WOW, but comparing the current status, WAR are definitely out.

I haven't played WoW in over 2 years, but I'm almost tempted to reinstall it.  Simply because.. I am FREAKING BORED.

I know I'm still going to hate it, and probably won't play very long.  But, something to do would be nice.  Especially since I am stuck at home, sick.  I doubt I'll play WoTLK though, considering I never even got to level 60 on a character.  I'll probably get bored with the game before I get to the point to play the expansion.

Your problem is WoW is your first MMO. Judging by the other games you cared to mention you've played, which is all AFTER WOW. In other words, you're one of the mainstream gamers who have no idea what MMO's were before WOW. Meaning you'll think that as much as you hate WOW, no other game will ever compare.

But yes WAR has problems. Which is why I don't play it anymore. Lvl 32 SW.

Not only is it his problem, it is the problem of every decent MMO dev team out there.  Sad stuff.  On the flip side, I am enjoying WAR enough to keep playing, but am looking forward to some good patches and content very soon.

I just started AoC after draging myself through 2 months of try-to-RvR. I tell you one thing this game is just so fcking awesome. I can't belive that people are so addicted to WoW that they are passing on this game. I just started, but from what I have seen so fare. This is a game you want to resub to.

Same here. I have been playing AoC for the past 2 weeks for the first time and it completely kicks every mmos arse to kingdom come! I have no idea why people bother with crappy games like WAR. It does of course suffer from the same old generic shit that all mmos suffer from (ie meaningless gameworld and brain numbing quests of pointlessness) but its miles ahead of its competition.

I will also be canceling my account after this month. I had a great time in WAR for a while, but after the 409,675,885th scenario the game is just getting repetitive. I, however will not re-up my old WOW account. Im afraid Im burnt out on that forever.

I think Ive figured out what I need though. After I left WOW I tried Tabula Rasa, (sucked worse than any game Ive ever played) AOC, and now WAR.  And for me what I think I miss is good dungeon/raid crawls. To each his own I guess, but I've never had as much fun in an mmo as I did with a group of friends taking on a good dungeon/raid boss. So I'll be on the lookout for a good PVE, raiding game. Maybe I'll have to wait for Blizzards next gen MMO, But I hope not.

I love that elitism. My first MMO was AO and I still think that WoW is the best benchmark for a newly released game. WoW still has the best game play out there, but it didn't start out that way: PvP trinkets, extra CC (i.e. deathcoil) etc. was added to the game over YEARS to get it to the state it is in now. WAR and AoC aren't competing with release WoW, but a WoW that has also seen years of player feedback in addition to content.

WoW took great concepts, "simplified" them and made them accessible to a greater audience by cutting out the majority of the tedium associated with the genre; what WoW players take for granted is now the standard and I don't think it's a bad thing to set the standards higher for new releases.

The only drawback is that it sort of creates a barrier to entry for new MMO's that are on tighter budgets and can't deliver on everything a WoW player expects from a MMORPG; as a sideeffect novel concepts implemented in games that only possess a subset of the features in WoW are often overlooked.

The global economic crisis is also taking it's toll, so ... I think we'll all be seeing a coiple more expansions of WoW before it's successor comes out.

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

i have played mmo for almost 10 years, obviously wow is not my 1st, but wow is the one i played the longest time, maybe games just need time to be polished, just like AOC and vanguard, WAR can be good if the dev to the right things to polish it, but i don't see that coming soon, and yes, i am comparing other games with WOW, isn't that what we do when we are looking for something better (or more suited our style) ? we always compare the new coming with the existing best (best is base on personal flavour) and see if it can replace the old one.

i feel truth in this even tough i didnt play wow but lineage2 for 4 years

the new games i played burned bright at the start for me but somehow i always feel pulled back to l2.

then i remember all the repetitive content and waiting for group and the bots and...

i think its kind of inbetween time for mmos atm. the new mmos make a lot of things better. i totally love conan for the story and graphics while war is a ton of fun pvping.

for me leaving that 1st mmo is a bit of liberation, beeing able to try new stuff and even if the new stuff wont stick the fun i have in a month of aoc or war was much greater then a month of l2. im free of the tought that ill play a mmo for life and im actually happy to able to see a lot of different games.

my rythem of subscription is that i revisit the games i like (ddo, aoc) whenever they bring new content that interest me and visit new games meanwhile. currently im playing war till the end of the month and will prolly swich over to chronicles of spellborne then.

for some gamers, playing new games and seeing new features are what they are looking for, for me, i just want to be happy while playing a game, even it's the same game, i don't mind playing it for my whole life, taste on games are totally not the same from different people, that's why opinion on games in forums can only be take as reference, you still have to play the game yourself to love it, or hate it.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't tempted by WotLK. I have two level 70 characters in WoW, with over 10K Gold banked in case I decide to return (I spent the last full month I played, after being bored with actual game play, playing the Auction House for profit...)

Best Buy is five minutes away and on Thursday I gave the expansion some serious thought. However, when I actually sat and thought about whether I really wanted to play the game again, I realized that I just couldn't do it.

I got about two years, off and on, playing WoW, but my burn out is complete.

I'm still enjoying WAR. It has flaws. I've also hit a couple minor "walls" with my enthusiasm for the game, but all overcome rather quickly. Some things will need to be fixed for me to say there is a good shot I'll still be here in six months, or even three, but for now I'm still getting my money's worth. There is still plenty I haven't done and a lot left to explore.

Honestly, I'm open to something better, but WoW isn't going to be it for me.

Can you describe what about the DK area you considered immature? O_o I thought killing peasants, torturing soldiers, illing hundreds of soldiers with a ship's cannon or participating in a huge epic battle between famous figures was actually pretty decent

Not saying you should like the game but the immature part is lost on me with your example :)

TBH, i wanted WAR to be WoW PvE with meaningful RvR.

I still don't understand how the company who created DaoC managed to fuck up RvR that much, and they were not able to duplicate the quality of WoW PvE, 3 years after it was released.

Seems to me a game like Aion would have been a great contender for WoW, except it has no race variety and that's a killer.

darkfall is most likely going to suck.

All compabnies seem eager to disappoint the player with half arsed games, thinking they just need to lead the player by the hand to make money.

    My addiction History:
    >> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore
    >> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual
    >> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.

Play AoC for more than two weeks, or compare any of Funcom's patch notes to what they actually did in-game, and you'll understand why almost everyone dogs that pile of trash.  All of their resources and polish went into the first 19 levels (out of 80!) of the game, with huge content gaps, severely broken skills, abilities, and crafting (War doesn't have much crafting, but not having much is better than spending 100 hours to make something that gives +0.3% to evasion) and what IS there is so poorly balanced and so poorly implemented you'll just want to scream.  Add onto that the Devs have no freaking clue what they're doing, frequently buffing the crap out of overpowered classes and nerfing ones in dire need of help.

This tells me people enjoy the single player type of style with MMO options.

Given the rave reviews that AoC level 1-20 got then the poor reviews after that point...

People like a detailed storyline about their own character (and perhaps the chatter in the backwound?).

How do you explain WoW? Ease of play, Ease on the computer and Ease of  Replayability.

It will be interesting how future gaming companies will digest this..
