Hey guys I have been looking for an mmorpg for the explorers out there. Not the grinders so much but the explorers.
I don't mind if an mmorpg has kill X number of Y mob quests in it. I just don't want it to be the majority of the quests. I want an mmorpg that rewards players for exploring and looking at the world. Ill give an example
Oblivion, You can run around insane all day and run into random caves and for all you know your next best wapon is in a treasure chest at the bottom of that cave! Is there an mmorpg out there with this? Secret caves and grottos for you to explore and find, with treasure and monsters deeper as you go in.
Decent graphics they don't have to be top of the line but I at least would like them to be like L2 or FFXI.
Not an insane level grind I can deal with a level grind such as WoW or FFXI but thats about it.
So a game to reward the explorer a massive world with lots of hidden detial and secrets for us to find!
Only game I played so far that has little caves, treasure chests, and secret artifacts from the past hidden in teh world is world of warcraft. FFXI has a little bit of it too, With dungeons key drops from mobs and Treasure chests that usually give you good gold or a Map. But I would like it to go much more deeper into that kind of exploration and move more away from the Kill X number of Y mob quest.
So is there any game out there like this currently or are we still waiting for this kind of game to be made?
Cash shop or not idc If it is please let me know >.<

pack a lunch and put on your knapsack. you can explore RL, just walk out your door.
combat is my favorite part of mmos, and pvp combat even more so.
No idea if there are any of these type of games on the market currently, at least not till the sense that I think you wish it to be. I believe Ultima online has quite some exploration, but I'm not sure.
But I do believe that, and I think it's called, Euphoria Online is one of the exploration type games. It however uses a economy based on real cash. In other words, you won't find a single coin in the game from selling to NPC or from killing a bandit. You'll have to put some cash down before you can get some gameplay done. No idea how good that game really is though.
What I am sure of, is that Darkfall will let you be able to explore quite a bit. But to the extent of dungeons with a holy grail, no idea. They do call it the MMORPG with the most freedom, so exploration should be a possibility. And I am personally hoping that they'll insert myths and legends into the game for the explorers. Since if you are free to become what you want, then why not a tomb raider for example.
Not just hoping for that, but also where players are able to create stories which send you off to exploration etc. I know Holic Online has this, but extremely poorly. But if there'll be a game that'll allow you to do truly amazing quests where there are many pre-made dungeons etc, then I'd be all ears to that game. But that'll take a while. If they'd insert this kind of feature, extremely well worked out, into Darkfall or any other game then it would probably the first p2p I'd ever play.
Since player made story lines won't have the 3 year wait for the expansion pack there would be tons of more things to do in a game. This would require a huge map though and actually not even a map, but a world as in no boundries in direction and lots of land and seamass.
For now I think you'll be better off with single player PC games and console games like the Elder Scrolls series, like Oblivion, Morrowind and whichever other are 2 scrolls exist and games like Fable (2) since most MMORPG companies have been idling way too much in terms of innovative experience.
Ryzom's world is a completely vast wilderness which players often explore for gathering materials to craft.
Its more explorer friendly than most games if you asked me.
Darkfall
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
I think a game would have to be designed specifically for that kind of gameplay.
Guild Wars 2 is my religion
Exploring (along with most other play styles) has taken a back seat in MMOs. Maybe we'll see some thing in the future, maybe not. Right now, I'm having a lot of fun exploring in Fallout 3. IMO, the exploration side of the game is MUCH better than it was in Oblivion. The map is pretty dense, very easy to miss locations if you're not looking closely. On top of that, the "dungeon crawling" is much more interesting. You're just not going to find this in an MMO right now, unfortunately...
