Coming Back.. What Servers? / State of the Game?

in Final Fantasy XI

Greetings all!

I played FFXI for a solid year or so after the US Launch and after many years away from the game I am considering coming back. I have tried all the new MMOs on the market even the new WoTLK expansion for WoW and I have been extremely disappointed and I remember the fun and challenges that existed in FFXI. FFXI didn't spoon feed you content with 1 button press instant wins.

A few questions in regards to the current state of the game. I would like to know how are general population levels especially at lower and mid levels I'd be leveling a new character on a new account as my old one has been deleted according to SE due to inactivity for so long.

I prefer playing hybrid/support classes so leveling a healer or buffing type class I can see being rather painful if I am forced to solo. I loath soloing with a passion and would deffinitely be wanting to find a LS/Guild asap.

Asuming there are high popluation/very active servers are groups or guild that group together generally easy to find? I like being able to log in and have a lot of options for things to do particularly in guild or tradeskill wise.

I am also curious what kind of options are available for end-game content at max level? I've traditionally been heavily into raiding in other games EQ/EQ2/WoW etc.

Any reccomendations on servers / linkshell reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Well, from what I can tell the average population is around 1600-1700 during normal times; up to almost 3000 or more during the whole JP/US overlap periods..

    Well, in my time playing, most of my parties have been formed with people I never met and weren't in my linkshells, etc. So you're going to find parties regardless.



    Also, they've now got the level-sync system in place which allows higher level players to basically be "capped" to a lower level so they can join parties, etc. It's really helped with forming parties overall.

    Oh man... Plenty. Sky, Sea, Dynamis, Limbus, Assault, Salvage, Campaign, Besieged, Einherjar, various HNMs around Vana'diel... There's no shortage of things to do at the high end game.



    As for "end-game", I really don't think that's an accurate description of FFXI because you can do so much at all level ranges and there's always a new job you can level.. It's not like you have to create alts every time you want to try a new class like in other MMOs.



    One thing FFXI certainly has is plenty of  things to do. Unless you spend all your time focused on only one or two things, it's highly unlikely you'll become bored.

    Well, if you wanna start on Pandemonium I'll be glad to give you a proper Pandy welcome and help ya get your footing, etc. I'm also in a linkshell that's got a span of new to experienced players. Cool people and many are quite helpful. So.. if you wanna try Pandy out, come on over and look me up in-game (Shanree).



    Either way, and which ever server you choose, dig in, have fun and welcome (back) to Vana'diel :)

    Well Odin server is so full at this point they have allowed free character transfer this month. Diabolos I can tell you seems like a ghost town and Bahamut is not bad for people & ls friendly. I am from Sylph and it is always about medium on population. The linkshells rang from just social to end game fanatics, current list of them is on alla in that server section.

    Best place to look for live information from the game on various groups is at the Linkshell Community run by Square. That information is right from the game and if the ls takes the time to make their entry you can bet they are at least trying to be active and open to members.

    Good luck and stop in to the RGoNots if you decide on Sylph.

    Call SE about the deleted account. Very few people I know have not been able to get their characters back in recent times.
