The point of play game is about enjoy the time in the game and have fun.

These 2 guilds just want to show off how fast and profestional they are.

Welfare epics were removed from the game, and while 10-mans do exist for each dungeon, the gear is sub-par to what you would find in the 25-man raids. Casuals are being rewarded casually for their style of play, but to say they "rule the game" or are even remotely competitive is a total joke.

Yes, they rule the game, because if it wasn't for the "casual" person, who probably works all day or, you know... has a life?, then the unemployed/welfare grabbing/living with mommy hardcore gamer wouldn't have his/her pay.

Therefore, yes, casuals own the hardcores :). Cuz in the end, they will have lived life AND still enjoyed wow, while the hardcore just played hardcore, and did nothing else with their lives.

The casuals rule this game now it seems.

When have the "hardcores" ever ruled WoW? Never.

When have the "hardcores" ruled ANY game? Err.. not since early MUDs maybe???

Seriously, while we are on this topic, the vast majority of these "hardcore" gamers people keep referring or alluding to do not even live in the Western Hemisphere. They live in the Far East. Thats where the real hardcore gamers are.

Whether they are getting paid to play ALL day then sleep under the computer desk at the sweatshop (goldfarmers) or couples play so long at gaming parlors down the street that their kids die at home, or its the most heavily rated national events on prime time television involving gaming,THATS "hardcore". (too nutso for my tastes)

The funniest thing in these United States is how a company can sell an image to people and just by buying gear with "hardcore" names (the professional grade "ViperAK9 controller!", the all new "RazzorNX2000 video card!"), games with "hardcore" titles (WARHAMMER.. WAUGGGGGH all the time, RAWR!!!), or T-shirts with "hardcore" sayings ("Eat.Sleep.PVP!"), the player is instantly transformed in his/her mind into a "hardcore" player, no skill required. All you need to call yourself a "hardcore" gamer over here is a dollar and a dream. (btw: just because you can build your own computer from spare parts from NewEgg.com does NOT automatically qualify you to be a "hardcore" gamer either, or Bill Gates and Steve Jobs would be #1 and #2 ranked)

Can the 99% of you out there stop calling yourselves "hardcore" and stop constantly DELUDING yourself please? Someone playing WoW doesn't make them 'soft" by default and you playing some hyped up nonsense doesn't make you "hard" simply cause you pay $15 a month to it.

For the record, I'm glad to be considered a "casual" player, tyvm.

I find it scary to see people taking a game this seriously if its not really a competition. The urge to beat some gamescripts as fast as possible without serious competition is just too weird. WIth fast I mean not within as few hours as possible, but as fast as possible after release. Which means total social life shutdown. And that to beat a gamescript! (aka raid).

If they would be able to win a monthly in Guild Wars, then I would be impressed, because there at least is a known and good competition. You also need more then a zombie zerg for that.

    Way to go Blizzard!
On a more serious note: I think Blizzard mistuned the whole RAID content Big Time!
Or more worrisome: They trully have lost all their good employees and don't have the expertise inhouse anymore to create decent RAID encounters.
    Cheers

I disagree, design of WotLK canot be judged by taking the accomplishments of the 2 most hardcore rading guilds curretnly in the game as the only means of scale.

Yes but the scale and in the speed in which they did is is ridicules, hard-core gamers they are which I'll agree. But capping level in three days should have been unheard of even for the most fanatical of gamers....let alone clear an entire end-game instance....these hardcore players are still human beings and they put on their pants one leg at a time like you and me you know...

So - if I find 24-40 friends that played through beta and play with them for 70-100 hours I can beat the game, get the best loot and I'm hardcore?  But if I solo everything and it takes me 120 hours just to hit 80 and I don't get any decent loot no matter how long I play then I'm casual?

  • HorniakHorniak Member Posts: 77

Well, this is what happens when you put the raid dungeons on the PTR months before release. After that it's just a matter of who got the most time to play the game. Plain and Simple!!

AND, when they let everyone play the so called beta.

Positive = less bugs, Negative = Game already old at release.

I think people already know what type of player (hard or soft) they are deep down, they just like to fool other people. If they can fool them enough or say it enough, then they start to believe that it must be true. I don't know that soloing content with guides someone else wrote makes someone a 'hardcore'. Soloing content and writing your own guides is more closer to the truth.

Honestly, anyone can grind out a level to hit 80. That doesnt take hardcore skills, thats just level grinding. Given enough mobs anyone can level fast. But I don't know youre talking about someone going to 80 in 120 hours lol. Are you talking from Level 1-80? You probably need to give a more realistic timeframe than that. Never heard of that happening way too often.

And indeed, if you can scrouge up 24-40 friends and get them to play beta for long periods of time, raiding over/over/over without doing much of anything else then yeah, you probably ARE a hardcore type of player. Most people have trouble scrouging up enough friends for just one party most of the time.

a good king give priority to his trusted adviser and elite generals, a great king give priority to the people of his country.

does the hardcore players pay more than the casual players for the game ? if not, who care ?

I am playing without any add ons and my pace of leveling is below average. 10 quests and resting.

I am doing some world PvP at the moment so I'll be 80 in January :(. Preparing for raids and we are talking February at the earliest .

    Should I feel sad now?

Hardcore own EQ1 for the first maybe 3.5 years i would say... after that it soft.

While we can say that there probably were more 'hardcore' overall in EQ1 back in the day, can we really say they "owned" it? It was still by and large paid for by casuals, people who only played several hours a day. But they weren't only about the raiding. It was a lot of crafting and other stuff that kept them going. Only nowadays is it really being supported by the more hardcores as more new MMOs have came out since its release, and they aren't replacing the ones leaving.

Most of the people you chat with that played EQ1 for any considerable length of time probably would not consider themselves hardcore. Even though they racked up plenty of hours, and did plenty of raiding, they never say they were hardcore. Just a real fan of the game. They fully enjoyed more of the social aspect right along with the gaming.

Are you having fun? No way to be sad if you do.

The biggest complain is from the hardcore players that the game is to much made for people like you.

It is hard to please everyone, i guess blizz figured they have more casual players than hardcore, so therefor they aim more on the casuals.

I can't really blame them, if they did the other way around they would start to lose players fast.

Wish i was, got the game through the post, didnt play because of illness on thursday. Friday i installed the game, launched the game and then 10 mins into it it crashed. I couldnt even launch past the log-in server part without it crashing. In fact every game crashed with a blue screen and a message saying dumping memory :( was only later at night when i finally decided that the new motherboard (less than 1mth old after my last one blew) or my 1yr 2mth old 8800GTX card had gone.

Found out yesterday at the shop that it was my graphics card, so now i have ordered a new one whilst that onesw been sent off top be repaired (still under warranty) but wont be back for 4+ weeks. So this past 2 month has seen my motherboard blow, my graphics card blow, problem getting DDR3 memory working with new board (only Kingstone worked, corsair and another make didnt) and a big god damn headache along the way.

As for the illness (and tootheache) the illness went they medication didnt work so have to go have it pulled today, its been not a good week for me at all.

I'm saying 70-80 solo in @120 hours vs 70-endgame-cleared in 68.5 hours.  Maybe it's possible to go 70-80 faster than that without grouping - I'm not sure - I'm sure as hell not going to try hitting 80 without grouping.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm a hardcore player - when I play I play as hard as I can, for long hours, take plenty of risks, try different builds, different classes, different gear, learn as much as I can from forums and such (not much to learn on this one but others), etc..   I would guess that I have put more hours into WoW than most (but certainly not all) of what you would call 'hardcore' players.  I've played every class but one to 50+ and 3 to 70+ (two with full arena/bg gear) and I have every trade skill but two in the 250+ range (all gathering skills maxxed pre-WOTLK) and 3 trades are 350+.  The only reason that you would not call me a hardcore player is because I don't run with a pack.

Note that someone that does run with a pack, plays less than I do, dies less, tries less, and who buys gold/etc off ebay would be considered hardcore by your definition.  It doesn't take special gaming skill to be a follower (or a leech) or to take orders.  The only reason that you think it does is because WoW happens to reward those players most.

If the 'you' in these quotes are directed towards me, I'm sorry if you got the wrong idea from reading my posts. I do not think I typed that only people who group can be "hardcore". I do not think I even inferred that. But I see part of my post in your rebuttals so I thought you meant mine. (maybe you have my post confused with someone else's?)

If the 'you' is a general 'you guys' as a blanket catch-all to people who disagree with you, then I'm sorry I thought you meant me in general.

I think most anyone (myself included) would agree that a hardcore or softcore 'definition' doesnt have any solo or grouping limitations. There is no "Only groupers can be hardcore and soloers cannot".

I believe they made this expansion for casuals, the one's that do all other stuff ingame while leveling having fun taking their time leveling.

Maybe they failed to include the possibility of hardcores on doing something like this, but's it's all good. For me, nothing changes, i'll be going back playing this game most probably next month while playing still in atlantica since i don't want my character there to be stuck as i did here while waiting for the expansion.

My plan is to take my time, enjoy what this expansion can offer and pretty soon, will get to the end game and got my money's worth. ^-^ That is ofcourse my opinion on the matter.

I played EQ1. I was hardcore. SOE made an expansion just for us hardcore players and everyone hated them for it. PoP was great fun and the difficulty level of the raid encounters was amazing. It took the better part of a year just for the hardcore guilds to get into PoTime and put it on farm status. On my server there were only 2 guilds that managed to get flagged for PoTime before the next expansion came out.

I agree that most people who played EQ were not hardcore players. But EQ was very fun with respect that the more you put into it the more you got back from it.

I can't stand WoW. Not saying that Blizzard is wrong in their approach or that people who enjoy WoW shouldn't be enjoying it. Obviously they have millions playing the game. But i felt like a college junior being asked to do 1st grade math. The game mechanics were like that helpful 1st grade teacher holding my hand the whole way.

I would imagine that if i were a part of the group that did this we'd have done it in under 48 hours but that's just because i'm Copeland and a God amongst men.

That they spent 3 days without sleep in order to clear that place is not only completely frickin' retarded but it sends a bad message to the already envious player base about whats important in life.

no the story moved on and naxx went with it as part of that story, i love how people find any little thing to bash blizz on.

The people freaking out over how fast the content was beat...well the dungeon/raid content...need to get a grip, these guys learned these dungeons in beta and have been farming them in beta forever now, of course they were gonna pop into the game and finish it fast, i see all these people hitting 80 super fast and i just smile because they are by passing so much good quests and stuff, but everyone has their own playstyle and i'll just remind them if they complain how bored they are that nobody forced them to rush to the end.

I just don't get why it even matters how fast someone else did something, I play at my own pace and fully explore and enjoy everything, i guess the good part of these folks hitting high level fast is they will get bored and not play as much using less of blizzards resources =) and blizz will still win because those people will keep their accounts active even if they don't play.

I'm not trying to bash blizzard, I'm playing wotlk right now myself. It's just insane that the raid content is a dungeon that was used before burning crusade, only statistically retooled. I quit raiding after bc hit, after raiding became pointless thanks to expansions that wipe out the time you spent. I just think its funny that they expected Naxx to actually be a challenged when its just a recycled dungeon.

  • milkyymilkyy Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 61

alright, i played wow pre-bc for the 40man raids. i went from MC to begining of naxx.  i miss those days cuz it was more challenging.

i think there should be casual gamer content.

but i know a whole lot of ppl that want it to be more "hardcore"

i played in TBC and it seemed way to easy. so i quit. and idk if i want to comeback. for just this reason. if i played. id want to level to 80 and start raiding...... but i want it  to be hard to do that.  i want the challenge. and yet. there is none now

LOL!  Wow, so pathetic on so many levels.

  • melmoth1melmoth1 Member Posts: 762

C'mon, let's keep it real here. The 'hardcore' by definition were in a race to complete the PVE content, to be the first uber-guild to complete to retain their uber-rep; that's why they pooled their resources, right? They got their success, a success that most players and guilds will take months to reach. Wasn't this their point?

So what's the beef? You wanted it, you got it. Move on.

    Regards

    Melmoth
