Only problem i had with shadowbane was that i finally accumulated enough money to build a castle and it got crushed FAST
My suggestion... Try EQ2 for the one month free subscription than try WoW for the one moth subscription and decide for yourself. You can see all the screenies and reviews in the world but thats only someone elses opinion that dosent have your game play style in mind....
Excellent advice, but unfortunately they would have to buy both games. Would be nice if some games had a demo you could try out before you bought the game.
that is very good advice but i am on a bouget i cant afford both. i have talked to friends who are sesiond vet of mmo games and they all said to try WoW because its new and ther wont be people that have been playin EQ one 4 ever thaat make the witch to EQ2 and that are gods already
I think it depends on if you perfer some PvP or PvE. WoW will have a decent PvP system in it. Where EQ2 will be geared to PvE play. I played the stress test for WoW and have to say from what i saw of the game it kicked ass. Unfortunatly i havent made it into the EQ2 beta so can not commit on the gameplay. I personaly will play both games to start out with and will decide after a couple months which i prefer to play for a long term.
EverQuest I think. Its just that the developers have learned off of 5 years of mistakes...Also, when people from the original EQ go to EQII, they cannot import their character, they will have to start out all over just like you will. But if you have a known name you can import your "heritage". Don't know, EQ was a great game. Personally if Morrowind or the New elder scrolls game was online that would be great.
if you have a friend who's getting the WoW CE it comes with a friend key, which lets you play a week for free. Don't know about EQ2.
think it depends on your taste and playing style. If you want a game with uber graphics that you need a high end machine to run so you can brag about the depth of your pocketbook, or your elite griding skills. then EQ2 is for you.
If you want a game 4 gamers by gamers then maybe you should lean for WoW. the levelling is quest based, which means you level faster if you work on quests since you get over 10 times the xp for completing a quest as opposed to killing a creep. Also they will have a PVP system that will require you play pvp even a little bit since battlefields will be on both servers and considered integral to WoW.
oh and did i mention that in D'n'L you can actully see where your going unlike most other MMO's that only allow you to see a few hundred metres in front of you.
After testing each game I will be playing WoW. Before testing I was set on EQ2 but the game is just not for me. First of all no PVP is awful, secondly it's a huge time sink, solo play does not exist and the game plays as if it's on rails. Yes you can wander to wherever you want, but there are just way too many restrictions for me and it is an immersion killer. I'll break it down for you below.
Difficulty- WoW may have gotten some backlash for being dumbed down, and if that's the general feeling toward's it's difficulty than EQ is made for the mentally challenged. Can a MMORPG ever be considered difficult? I guess some people consider difficult a measure of time wasted, but I would rather be strategizing a way to beat something in an appropriate amount of time.
Graphics- Though EQ2 boasts for having the most advanced graphics system out, it is having some problems thus far with implementing them in an effective manner. First, you need a very powerful computer, which currently is bad but in the future this will lead to many possibilities as far as improving the game and keeping it number one on the market for graphics. Some of the views in this game are amazying. WoW cannot compare to EQ2 in the quality of certain scenery, but EQ2 is seems to shat the bed with character models. They look like claymation figures covered in butt mud. I know that from the beginning of beta the graphics have been adjusted up and down and toyed with to optimize performace, so expect to see improvements consistantly up to and after release.
Classes- This was a sore subject for me a week ago. I ranted on and on how EQ2 lacked any diversity between classes, and it really did. Well the devs decided to drop a bomb on us by releasing a very promising system in which it seems EQ2 will take diversity to a new level. WoW as we know has 9 classes, 3 build trees within each and hero classes coming. To quantify each game regarding diversity currently is impossible. Once the next patch hits EQ2 I'll have a much clearer idea as to how this new system is shaping up. I'm just hoping htey didn't merely rename all the spells for the appropriate classes and keep the actual function of them the same. Time will tell.
Gameplay- I give WoW the clear edge in this category. WoW is definately a game that has more "fun" in most facets. It is definately more polished then EQ2. This is definately attested to SOEs "rush to launch and patch later" mentality. WoW has done extensive testing for class balance, PC vs NPC encounter balance, whereas the highest character in EQ2 beta is under level 45. Fighting makes more sense in WoW. EQ2 has incorporated some strange aggroing codes that make the game seem very rigid and unrealistic. The mob AI though once an encounter has occured is pretty impressive. Mobs function as a group and work as a team to take your party down.
Longevity- SOE wins in at making games that never end, hence the name everquest. Huge timesinks, yet rediculously addictive, EQ2 is a front runner for outlasting WOW. Who knoows what Blizzard has up their sleeves though. They got a smart bunch over there working on the game, and I expect them to go 12 rounds as well.
Personally I think both games are going to be hugely successful for years to come. They definately focus on two differnet types of gamers. EQ2 is more about the EQ fanboy that likes PVE/grouping and wasting lots of time plugged in. WoW contours moreso to the casual gamer, the solo artist, the PVPer and provides enough content to keep the hardcore guys relatively quiet, but who can please a person that plays more hours a week than what most of us work.
I am suprised that eq has lasted 5 years. After playing SWG for over a year the service in customer service is non existent and they have paid players or DEV's that can walk around totally invisible and spy on every move you make examine anything you have in your houses inventory anything like their own Gestapo or secret police and they have the power to ban you from the game. If I had to choose between the 2 then WOW would win hands down since it isn't run by SOE. Granted the games that they have are addictive but I prefer a game that can be run solo if you want or with a group but being grouped isnt necessary to be able to do anything in the game.
SWG has slowly but surely is being converted to where you have to be in a huge group to suceed in just about any major mission in the game. To let SOE run any game is to put it into it' s death rolls and slowly watch it pass away from the numerous nerf's that are never ending.
MY advice stay away from any game run by SOE (Sony Intertainment Online)
I am rather dissapointed i was picked for eq2 beta but never got it. Then i found out no pvp so it just didnt matter. I played on pvp server eq and it stared fun but they nerfed it that grind thing pve I just cant do all the time. Second the makers of eq are not making eq2 they moved on and are now making IRTH. I really think this game will outshine both of them its got a huge fan backing with no publicity. and it will have eq style submersion with pvp on all servers. I was accepted for beta 1 on it cant wait. till then wow will be my game. I love questing and pvp.
Lol looks like some of you still dont understand that the comparison between WoW and EQ2 is always biased and is totallly pointless.
1- WoW is a PvP game, EQ2 is PvE
2- PvE is better in EQ2 then in WoW, people saying that WoW has better PvE are definitly fanboys. Ive never seen a PvP game with better PvE then a PvE game...
3- WoW is cartooney and EQ2 is realistic.
4- Every mmorpg gamer is able to choose between a PvP and a PvE game on is own.
5- You are ridiculous, its like comparing a MX bike to a Racer, a car to a truck...
6- Your even more ridicolous when you talk about EQ2 fanboy and act like a WoW fanboy (or vice versa)
Stop comparing and start playing... We dont care wich is better between WoW and EQ2, there is no true answer.

IMO - both will be clones of everything else..
Try out an origonal idea game - Shadowbane
Play to Crush.. not play to level.. and level.. and level some more..
Best PvP game out:

Only problem i had with shadowbane was that i finally accumulated enough money to build a castle and it got crushed FAST

Here is my advice... Run away as fast as you can.
EDIT: JK, just play the one that sounds the most interesting to you. At this point, that's the only reasonable suggestion you are going to get.

I played EQ from the begining. Tried SWG, FF, DAoC, PS, Eve. But the one game I keep going back to is Shadowbane. PvP combined with Siegeing > all.
WoW will be better for solo play I think.
EQ2 will be prettier I think, and no PvP.
Which (not witch ) one fits you best!
if you have a friend who's getting the WoW CE it comes with a friend key, which lets you play a week for free. Don't know about EQ2.

You can see which way I'm leaning.
*dodges incoming flames*
if you only like pve and no pvp at all.... go for EQ2
if you think you will get bored of pvein... go for WoW, since theres a bit of pvp goin on there ^_^
Richijefe... level 61 Silver Ranger on Bartz... quit 4 months ago ^_^
Richijefe
ultimately, i think wow will be better.
if eqii is anything like it's predecessor with the huge time sinks, then no amount of beautiful graphics will help it.
If you like PvP, play WoW
If you like PvE, play WoW
If you like PcP, get drug counselling.
If you like PvC, go to this thread
Play neither, and wait for http://www.darkandlight.com
It has everything EQ/WoW/SB had plus more.
oh and did i mention that in D'n'L you can actully see where your going unlike most other MMO's that only allow you to see a few hundred metres in front of you.
WoW will be the game to play and i am basing my decision on how a friend decribes the game after he did beta stress test for the game.
It will be more than just lvling, it will be about questing, crafting, guild vs guild pvp, etc....
I can't wait!!!

Still undecided? Get both. They're both great.

for me its gonna be world of warcraft, i have been playing warcraft since warcraft II: tides of darkness came out in 1995
but im sure eq2 will be pretty good too, but i dont like the style, im unfamiliar with the story, and its PvE
