It is a good game...if you don't mind poor char customization, boring combat and quests that suck and mediocre graphics...
I have to agree, but thats just my opinion. obviously thousands of people see something in this game that i dont see. I tried it and just got bored after about 10 fights, its really not my kind of game, but whatever, if you like it, like it!
I guess it depends on what you consider character customization. Unlike other games with skills unlocked/level or even customizable skill trees, your character's skills in Atlantica Online are pretty limited. That being said, In Antlantica your mercenaries are essentially your skills and are, therefore, an extension of your character's abilities. There are so many possible combinations that you have an extremely wide array of choices to customize how your character will behave in combat AND you can swap out mercenaries. I wouldn't call that poor at all...
If you simply mean how your character looks, then your choices are rather limited, especially when you first create your character.
Regarding combat, at low levels the combat is pretty simple, but I wouldn't call it boring. Whil the core of the game is turn based combat, it can get quite deep and exciting, especially due to the number of mercenaries you control, the timer, the number of attacks/round, the fact that it's done in real time, etc..
Graphics - I would agree that they're nothing special, but they aren't horrible either. Frankly, some people are graphics snobs. It looks pretty enough, though I think the game could perform better given the fact that the graphics aren't bleeding edge.
I tired the closed beta back a while ago and I couldn't agree with you more.
When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!
As horrible as the graphics are, I actually liked the game. Reminded me of an old old old old very old old game, called Conquest of the New World. The battles were kind of fought like that. God I loved that game.
The combat just didn't do it for me, I thought it would be like in the original "neverwinter nights" (the turn based, not the later Bioware game) but it turns out that it was more like the combat from the Suikoden games. I liked those games because the story and characters were good but the combat was boring.
If the story of the game would feel great I would still play it but it felt just like any other game.
After trying Runes of magic, this game just ain't good enough. It is still better than many other F2P game but it just didn't do it for me. I will keep on playing RoM as my F2P alt game.
I guess too many people are just entrenched in the WoW mode and cant play any game that is different at all......Boring combat? Youre controlling 9 different characters and have to make decisions quickly....How is that boring?? I think alot of you either didnt play at all or played 5 minutes and made your judgments.....You probably killed a fairy on the first quest and thought "well the whole game must suck then".......The graphics are fine...If the graphics are really gamebreaking then the only game for you guys is AoC....The graphics in Atlantica are no worse than EQ2, LoTRO or WoW......I can understand that turn based isnt for everyone but Atlantica at higher levels are far more challenging than any WoW or EQ1 raid I ever did.......
The quests? Whats wrong with the quests?? YOu dont like that they actually teach you how to use things in teh game?? Would you jsut prefer the "go kill 10 mobs" the entire game like LoTRO and WoW did??.....This is why companies dont try things that are different because the players can only play one style.....WoW and all its clones are mind-numbingly boring.....Heck most people can kill 99 percent of the mobs in the game on auto attack...... LiekeI said its brutally obvious that alot of you made judgments on Atlantica without ever even making level 10 and thats fine....Go play your WoW clones......alot of us are enjoying something that is refreshing to the genre.

as for this game. i looked at it. didnt like the concept so i never tried it. im going to asume you like the concept so more power to you. but for me i like a little higher graphics and real time combat. im not big on TB combat.. unless its FF7 lol but thats a whole other kettle of fish
but i do agree alot of US/Euro companies are trying to build mmos off WoW's stupid ideals.
asian companies are building them off D2... which means no new MMOs are ever going to be real ground breakers..
Iv said it thousands of times before, Free 2 play mmorpgs should only be picked up by those players who fall under one of these 3 categories.
#1 They are to young / kids can't afford to pay for a decent mmorpg
#2 They are players who have never experienced a decent mmorpg
#3 They are all players that come from Web-browser based mmorpgs
#4(Sometimes with these economic times we want to simply stop spending money on all hobby so thisis a viable reason to play these crappy Korean shit fests).
Atlantica however does things a bit different.
I will admit the graphics are terrible, no not terrible pitiful they hurt your eyes and embaress you just by looking at them.
The lack of character customization is so outrageous it almost rivals Sword of the new worlds, Which only lets you pick from 5 classes 2 sexes every class/sex looks exactly the same....
The games questing is horrible by any decent mmo standards, and It basically makes you ether kill X number of Y mob or Run to X npc.
That being said Atlantica has some nice features which were able to keep me on it until level 41.
#1 Some of the quest text is really well done, the storyline is relvealed in the text unlike in most mmorpgs the story did not die for me at level 41, so long as you read the text its kinda neat.
#2 Auto run to the location you want, this feature simply rocks!
#3 Teleport scrolls (Even though it is a cash shop item now, back when I played they were obtainable from quests and stuff)
#4 Music was well done, and memorable
#5 Community was active lively and it was hard to find an empty town back in the beta, (Oslo was basically the only town that had 1-2 players only most of the time).
Now, overall this game stands tall on top of a pile of games that should not even be on the market let alone expect people to pay for them. Free 2 play games in general are all garbage, Atlantica just happens to be the top of that Garbage bin. If instead of cash shop they made it 5 dollars a month to play (Like Dungeon runners, It would easily compete with Pay 2 play games, but since the cash shop (Which you can argue its not needed which is total BS all Cash shops are made to be needed at some point or another, they would NEVER put in a cash shop that is not NEEDED for something major). Takes over the entire travel of the game which is what you will be doing a lot I don't think its worth playing it as it is now. especially because you can't even use Cash shop items on alt characters just on 1.
So Atlantica- The unspoiled fruit on top of a garbage can.

There is something really good about this game, for starters it's held my attention longer than any other game inc: Fallout 3.
You guys are harsh. I guess I can see how you might not like the combat, you either like turn-based or you don't. I personally love the combat, it requires you to actually think and plan out your attacks in order to be a great player (especially later on in the game). Now for pre-30 I can see how the game can be kind of boring, since you are limited to basic mercenaries. As for the graphics, I love them. Perhaps you only had them set on the lowest rate. When I started I played around with the graphics settings. There is a HUGE difference between rank 1 and rank 5 graphics settings. The fact remains that no matter how great a game is, there will always be some that absolutely hate it. That's the nature of games. (except Zelda, everyone loves that

a lot of the mmorpg games are made from korea. they have pretty good graphics, but the story mode and stuff are kinda teh same.
Atlantica looks awsome, when i heard of teh comabt style i was like..crap..but i think it will be fine
As an mmo vet that started in 1997 with UO and played ever game, including WoW which bored me after 6 months, this is a very very refreshing twist on the mmo genre.
For those that enjoy the mind-numbing WoW-type simple mmo's (some features that enable more character customization for the sake of just looking a little more different as you do the same kill/run/chase/return thing over and over and over again) may not appreciate the complexity of Atlantica.
Everything in Atlantica seems strategy-based and player-based. . .it sure is addicting. I would think it might appeal to RTS fans as well as mmo fans looking for something very different.
Nah man this game is crap, no 2 ways about it, only reason this game has hype is because it's a newish FREE grindfest game...nothing special here, silkroad had its time, so did rappelz or whatever you call it, this game will die out be be shamed for the crappy grindfest same old crap that these games end up as....this is like playing the many FREE mmos that came b4 it all over again...NOTHING NEW HERE, woooo it has a different battle syatem to most even though it's been done 9846783746376 million times b4, NOTHING NEW TO SEE HERE.
if you want to invest your time into a game that eventually will make you use the item mall to even make your character useful that you have spent over 6 month to a year on then this is the game for you, if you like an unsmooth game that has been rushed or medium graphics go ahead, my advice....dont invest time in to it coz you will end up getting screwed, thats what they are designed for...simple...NOTHING NEW HERE.
This game is poo, back to EvE I go : ) for all you people who like to play mmos that you don't have to pay for, wake up, these games are a COMPLETE waste of time, even though I know all games are a waste....these games take the cake, then again most crap that you do in life is a waste but now I'm just going off topic

Dude, it's just like guild wars, yeah there are a lot of combinations you can do, do people do them? nope, the best system is figured out and they will all become clones, just coz a lot can be done does not mean people will....I've seen the forums and how people are all doing the same set ups for fighting

All hype, guild wars at the start was the same, but look at it now, an infinite amount of builds yet only a selected few are used....nice way to add some depth to a game that does not really exist if you ask me.

Well I've been playing since beta and I'm level 100 now. Not much of a grind fest when you can get a level every other day. And Eve isn't even a mmo imo. You don't actually control your ship, you just right click and say shoot this guy down...snoooring. People that don't play this game past level 30 have no idea how great this game is. Once you get into Free League, and later on the GM Duels (WHICH ARE AWESOME!!!!) then you can really appreciate the time and money they've put into this game. At really high levels, you can join the Weekly Championships and try to prove yourself as the best player on your entire server without restrictions. All Hail the best mmo out there, Atlantica Online!
As for people having the same builds, this isn't all that true. Yes alot of people will go for a 3 gunner or all archer type party, but there are alot of people that do others and are still successful. And FYI the 3 gunner stun party isn't THAT great. It will give you 2 free rounds after 3 rounds, but gunner damage isn't very good at all. Other than having either a Shaman or Oracle, there isn't a job that you HAVE to have. Some people don't even have a healer in pvp, instead they go for more damage. Sometimes it works out for them too.
hehehe im lvl 97 right now and im enjoying my conqueror equip set and looking forward to equip freezing item... hehehe gold is easier when you reach lvl 90+.
Im kinda surprised there are so many negative posts.....I think alot of people jsut see "F2P" and "item shop" and automatically consider it garbage......I have played a ton of MMos and this game is every bit as good as almost all of them......I dont like most of the Korean grinder games but this game doesnt feel liek a grind to me......Also the mobs at first are pretty easy to get players used to the game......Later on that 30 seconds will go by very quickly, especially in PVP......I also think players dont like turn based type of games because it gives the otehr player a chance.....Most PVPers like the element of surprise where they sneak up on someone and kill them in 5 seconds.......You arent evenly matched in PVP in AO at first but eventually you get to a league where youre playing people near your level and skill.......To each his own but this game is far from garbage.
just dont mind them!!! they are scared that atlantica might replace WoW in the field of mmorpg... hehehehe!!!! just play what you want and dont bash the game^^
Thanks for making a pointless post where all you did was rant about your hate of free to play MMOs. Grindfest? Hardly especially when you compare it to the other MMOs in your post. I reached level 20 in only four hours or so of play time.
If you are going to make a post about how poor a game is give us reasons why the game itself is poor instead of ranting about something irrelevant.
