Whatever happened to PVP ?

slayer67slayer67 Member Posts: 68

I'm sorry but is it just me or has the PVP aspect in games been just going downhill. I mean honestly I can't remember the last MMO that has kept my attention for more than 1-2weeks, in most cases a couple of days T.T . Well that's not totally true WoW has well kept me (and is still continueing to do so) "WoW"ed. I mean the amount of effort put into it is just amazing, and it shows the fruits of their labour are just delectable. Are there any similar games, out right now, that can even come close ?

The thing is that WoW managed to introduce pvp at such a low lvl that people were immediately hooked, everything in their game has been introduced at early lvls, from dungeon raids to Arena matches, and they just get better as your level increases. More skills to play with more people who know what they are doing (granted that this just makes it harder, but its still fun).

K enough ranting about WoW, I'm just asking if there is anything similar, I'm kinda bored with what it has to offer. Sorry to be back here again so soon I just desperately need something to kill time. FYI : I do read and play sports on a regular basis but I need something more.

You first start talking about pvp, but then you touch on dungeon raids also. Are you looking for a game with everything similar to WoW or would you like more pvp? If you want more pvp try to be more specific such as full loot, territory wars, and what not. Say what you want or don't want.

Majority of the people dont know how to play PvP anymore. They complain about class balancing the gear etc. First of all you cant really rely on level based games to be fair in PvP. Classes are not supposed to be balanced. You either find a weakness or find a new trick to win. Griefers need to stop feeding the spawn campers and move on, find a different place to go and you dont get spawn camped therefore you dont grief.

The way games are today, people literally dont know how to PvP anymore.

Lol, sorry spinach, I am interested in PVP, but I was just talking about how WoW managed to introduce a few thigns at low lvls to keep their audiences hooked (raids being one of them). So yea PVP it is.

csthao I couldn't agree with you more, PVP is supposed to be more like Rock,Paper,Scissors but nowadays people are too afraid to die in a video game, and want to be able to beat everything without much effort. So yea : any suggestions ?

Games I'm definately not interested in : WoW (played it to death), EVE (a bit tooooo end-game), WAR (seems to similar to WoW, and pvp is pretty empty from what I hear), Shaiya (ridiculously dull game, controls are very stiff). Rappelz (nothing special major grind and nothing rewarding in the end, Pets are really fun though).

These are just a few games I've played though trying to remember the rest....hmmm.

    Note : I'm more of a group player =P

For full loot pvp there's currently only one out that isn't oldy moldy. Look under this thread for the hardcore pvp type. For territorial type wars look underthis thread.

    Three words......Care bear stare.

Every body wants WoWs customers instead of getting thier own so no matter the game, as soon as the bean counters see it and go, WTF you dont have elves and dwarfs and magic? You have to change this to be more like WoW or we can't help you with financing.

I like pvp but pve offers more for the gamer than pvp does. The majority want story, crafting, exploration, achievements and finding good loot for their characters. PvP is fun but for the long term it isn't so appealing to the masses that pay that monthly fee.

What ?...........Sorry I didn't understand your post. The only thing I like about WoW is the fact that it encourages or even allows, for that matter, low lvl pvp. It has quite a bit of variety. I dont mind if a game only has 2 races, just as long as the PVP is unaffected it's fine with me.

I have no idea what you're getting at but if it's anything negative you might as well keep it to yourself >.>

Yeah man, wow has to be the best PvP aspect i have ever played.

the style and skill you have to have to pvp in that game is amazing mixed with the movement controls renders it unbeatable.....i always say if wows pvp was added to a game like WAR and big open battles it would be unbeatable.

And the fact that they are so organized with the currency in pvp and how you can buy ALOT of sets and items through pvp.....     How can you not like this game?   give me one reason

Honestly have you played WoW ? Sure gear has alot of influence in PvP but then again it's an mmo everything comes into play. It's more about strategy than twitch skills, you have to know what skill to use when, sure timing does come into play but you are looking at it the wrong way. Also ,FFS if you don't have anything usefull or any sort of relevant contribution that will help someone out, just STFU. NO ONE CARES.  No wants to start a flame war here, its not the place if you want why don't you make your own god damn thread and have fun there.

    Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't a better question be: "What happened to PvE?"

You know ... the RPG elements of a MMORPG?

PvE imo is kinda vague, some games have got some parts of it right others don't. PVE (imo), includes pretty much everything from crafting to quests to raids and pretty much everything that isn't PVP. For instance the crafting system in Atlantica is just soooooo much fun, WoW crafting, even though its massive and there are a lot of things to craft, is just not my style it can get a bit complicated and sometimes just isn't worth the effort. So yea it is a better question, but it's not one I care about, personally =P

don't mix RP and PvE. it's not the same. RP is practically non-existant in current mmorpgs, except for what people bring in.

  • slayer67slayer67 Member Posts: 68

Your right. But he said the question should be more like " Whatever happened to PVE ?", so I addressed that instead of the RPG party =P.

I feel the RP element is pretty relient on the questing, the quests should make you feel like your actually contributing not just you know.....killing some boars or something cause they are "Overrunning" the town ?? Quests should be like events you know ? They should change as the game changes, I don't think it would be too hard to implement and take out a couple of quests every now and then ? as in every 1-2 weeks ? The quests could be repeated but should involve a little more complexity.

Don't get me wrong, it's not solely reliant on the quests but that's just one of the big factors...IMO.

These are just some things I'm saying off the top of my head. So yea feel free to contribute your own ideas.......and keep suggesting any other good PVP games you can.

    Thanks in advance.
