I agree 100%. We can be suspicious of the quality of the game that comes out. We can be suspicious of what we are told about the game. But to think it's anything different than indie developers trying to make a game is silly.
Compared to AoC - This game will be better. IMHO... AoC has lowered so many peoples expectations that they can hardly BE disappointed at this point. If you played AoC and left in disgust, pretty much any game, even hello kitty online will be a breath of fresh air.
Some people are like slinkies, they dont really have a purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Nothing can be gained by continuing to lie about a game being developed. The only thing that can really happen is the complete death of a company. If they didnt just die as soon as they had to say it was all a lie who would ever put faith or more importantly Money into them again.
Perhaps it is possible that a company can really be this stupid but i find it hard to believe now days. After Gods and Heroes and Vanguard i cant believe they cant see what this kind of a lie would get them.

I think people are taking it the wrong way when saying why would they go through all this trouble for a scam. There are several reasons, one primarilt money. They've gotten a decent chunk of money from investors already. Nothing compared to big companies, but still enough for a small indie group.
That isn't the reason I would take if I were to consider it vaporware. I take it as in they tried to make a game with extremely high expectations, that they could not finish enough to even get it released. While a game may exist, it won't see the light of day, thus be vaporware for all intents and purposes since we will not see it.
Biting off more than they can chew, the huge game they stated to make, is an empty shell of a game. That is what vaporware is.
It even says that it is not intended as a hoax, but genuine desire to release the product. It's been bugging me lately people using "why would they go through with a scam? Of course it is real" It is the same thing as why do people steal, or con old people out of their retirement savings. That whole reasoning that it is real because why would someone scam is such a fallacy.
Anyway, scams and hoaxes aside, usually has nothing to do with vaporware. Considering Aventurine's past history of DF and the promises, and let downs over the years, can you really blame anyone that says the game is vaporware?
I do not think it is a scam, but I am skeptical of a release, let alone a quality game.
Oh, and if they actually had regular releases of info, probably wouldn't be considered vaporware either. If you look at any info released, it is often colored with flowery language and has absolutely no definitives. when they did give definite answers, they always failed to produce.
Oh and if you read down on the link, i think if DF does release it will be in the category Falls short of expectations.
Also, the simplist solution would be DF is doomed to fail because it is produced by an independent company and has had an unreasonably long development. That is the answer that is most free of other elements.

Im sure it has been discussed WAY more in depth than on this board and there are different interpretations and applications...however for you to say "thats not what it means at all" is FACTUALLY WRONG because it at the very very least is in the same ballpark.

Ok, maybe you should take your own advice and research what the principle really means and its application, try a little harder than watching Contact. I don't need to google as I use it in my everyday life and work.

Actually that is not what it means at all. The principle has absolutely nothing to do with simplicity or as someone else inferred, likelyhood.

So what is your explanation of the 30min video in which the developer showcased the game being played live over the internet infront of the media? Explain how that isnt proof that the game doesnt exist?
