Hello all!  My fiance and I are thinking about joining EQ1.  We both played a lot of MMORPGs and stopped them because we had the end game armor and the game became stale.  Anyways.  We would of tried EQ2 but the computer specs were kind of laggy.  So we have some questions.

1st- I would like to be like a Paladin but a DPS paladin, is there such a thing?  Even if it's a different class.  As long as it's holy and I get to wear cool armor and cool shields.

2nd- Is there a certain class spec to go, if so where is the forums for the certain spec?

3rd- Where can my fiance and I buy the game and all the expansions online?

Thank you!

Time to fix this genre.

Classes in EQ do not have 'specs'.   There are ability points, but you do not specialize a particular tree like in WoW - you can train in all abilities for that class. Each class has a defined role, and it's rare that they deviate from them.  There is no DPS Paladin - they deal some damage but noone would ever consider them as a DPS class.   Paladins are a straight-up tank class with some small healing and other utility spells.

This might sound boring but consider EQ has a lot more classes than a game such as WoW, so it balances there.  It just means you're stuck with one playstyle per character.

So in brief answer to your questions:

    1)  No DPS Paladin, all paladins are basically hard-wired to perform the same role as a Protection Paladin in WoW.

    2) No specs, the way you develop your character is pretty linear.

    3) Go to SOE's Station Store, you can buy and download everything from there.   Several other online retailers sell the latest expansion which includes all the previous expansions as well, I think.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

You could have a lot of fun if you play a Paladin and your wife plays a Druid or a Shaman. She can buff and heal while you pound away at the mobs. She could DoT or slow mobs as well, but the above poster is correct, the Paladin in EQ is a meat shield. No wicked DPS for Pallys in EQ.

  • Hello,

Paladins in EQ are basically tanks. Depending on what equipment you have, how much experience (not only levels but also Alternative Ability Experience) you can dish out some good damage, especially against undead creatures but dont consider a paladin a DPS class.

The other holy class is Cleric but clerics do even less dps and are core healers.

If you 2 plan to duo alot, then the suggested combo of Paladin / Shaman or Paladin / Druid should be fun at start.

EQ also has some real gem classes to offer that play different from the rest and from most i've seen in other MMO's.

The Bard and Enchanter for example are definitly intresting to play, when u need to try something new.

I would come back if the game wasn't so........................................................................................................................

    ..........................................................BIG!!!!

Seriously I miss it but to come back and start from scratch and have all that down time is very uninspiring. The game has so many expansions and is way to big to draw me into it again as a new player coming back.

Who let you in the VIP section?

well i went back for a try after 3 years - played 90 houers so far for those 30 euroes.

Altho not everything is brilliant downtime for sure isnt the issue. I Soloed my cleric from 70 to 77 and the hardest skill to learn was "meditate" because i never had to. It only went up here and there after a death and rebuff.

i missed 3-4 expansions and yes the world is big and yes its hard to find places but the good side is: the community left after 10 years is all helpful and mature. All the kiddies went for the shiny graphics hype games it seems.

On the other hand everyone seems to be at least  twoboxing and i have mixed feelings about those "mercs" too.

Have not yet decided if i keep playing but to meet old friends from 3 years ago and visit those old places was definitly worth the money.

    http://crucible.samanna.net/viewforum.php?f=53 run by Sam .

This place has everything you need to know about Paladin, shaman and even those things called druids.

You can also build your gear/aa/spells and aug path there...

    Good luck !
