I really wanted to like this game..

..you know what I mean? A return of RvR from DAOC but in a brand new game sounded promising.. the lore and graphics seemed more interesting than other games and there was a good variety of classes. The tome of knowledge was innovative as well as other features.. scenarios was a lot of fun for the first 20 levels... but then, towards the end of my first month it hit me:

This is an unfinished game, and life is too short to be beta-testing a game that Mythic rushed out the door. I really wanted to like this game, and in fact even after I stopped enjoying it (T3/T4) I forced myself to keep playing another week or two after that point.. but finally, I could take it no more and the night of WOTLK's release, I gave in and cancelled my account, ran to Walmart to buy WOTLk and re-subbed to WoW. I've been playing MMO's for about 12 years now, and money is tight now so I don't make a decision like that lightly.. but as much as I WANTED to like this game I couldn't because of the rushed-out-the-door feeling, the botched launch, the server problems, the class imbalances, the level/scenario grind that makes WoW faction grinding seem like a breeze, the lack of end-game, the failure of ORvR.. sorry to say but WoW is a much better game as it exists today, WAR has promise to equal or better in the future if it can survive and evolve over the next few years, but i'm not going to pay my hard earned money and waste my precious time beta testing it for mythic.

Bottom line: If you're on the fence about staying with WAR (and a lot of people are).. seriously, just give it up and play what you enjoy, WOTLK is awesome and you won't regret buying it, where as I regret buying the WAR box now that i'm not playing it. I really do hope WAR prospers eventually and becomes real competition for WoW but I can't see compromising my enjoyment to keep playing an unfinished game and I think others will come to the same conclusion, leading either to the game dying or forcing mythic to make real changes that people want to allow it to prosper.

quite a turn around from your 29-Oct post

There is a lot of doom-saying on message boards, because the people who are here, and at VN, and wardb posting regularly are NOT playing the game, they're on a forum conplaiming about things rather than enjoying the game. I'm only posting here now because the servers are down for the 1.04 patch maintenence. The game is not "dying", you simply see more negative posts because most of the people enjoying it are out there enjoying it, not trolling forums with talk of impending doom. Also, subscription numbers never remain = to the amount of boxes sold, some % of people are inevitably going to stop playing it in the first month for various reasons, same happened with WoW and it didn't start becoming massive until well over a year+ after release and after they launched international versions of the game.. you realize that if they didn't have the game in China and central america now it would cut WoW's population by 1/3 or more, don't you?

Now, a lot of people point to xfire as their source for the game's population drop.. thats crap. Percentage-wise, a lot less people playing WAR use xfire compared to people playing WoW. Reason being: WAR is far more intensive on your system even on all minimum settings, you can run 4 instances of WoW on a good PC today but only 1 of WAR. Hence, not nearly as many players are not going to willingly run an extra program like xfire to monitor their playtime. can't afford to waste system resources on that with a more intensive game, i'll never use xfire but I plan to play WAR for a long time.

As for the game itself, yeah there are bugs still, and some class balancing needs to be done, and PvE content needs to be expanded, as well as ORvR incenties, but don't you see they're working on it and its coming? They're making updates and fixes to the game almost every other day, this company listens to its players and makes changes according to the overall feedback vs. Blizzard who now that they've polished the game, only listens to the almighty dollar and turned WoW into a CHILDRENS'S GAME, that since TBC launch has been incresingly dumbed down to accomodate for a wider yet less intelligent player base.

Bottom line, this game is not going to die, after the WOTLK/LOTRO/EQ2 competition comes and goes people will come back to WAR and I predict this game will slowly gain people over time as it expands in content and replayability. Those who enjoy it will stay and see the game improve over time, those who are whiny little spoiled babies, newbies to MMO, epic failers at life will flock back to WoW for their EZ-Mode instant-reward children's game, and then quit that again the next time something new comes out.

MMO's are about dedication both in the commitment to building your characters and the commitment to playing a game for longer than a month at a time to really get a feel for it and help influence the changes that come. MMO's are essentially live-beta tests, they need lots of people playing them and giving feedback in order to fix bugs and balance classes better. You can't expect the game to be as polished at launch as a game that has been released for 4 years and is live-beta tested by millions of people daily.. that's crazy, of course its going to take time to work everything out. You people quitting and bashing it after a month or less of playing are such a pathetic example of todays 'on-demand' society though, you take this childish stance of "i'll play this new game for 1 month and one month only, and if its not 100% tailored to my every need and demand by then, I QUIT!"'.

If you're one of those types, MMO's really arent for you, find a different hobby, and see a doctor for some ADHD medicine.

So I think someone has hijacked your account. I especially like the comparison from your post in this thread to this

MMO's are essentially live-beta tests, they need lots of people playing them and giving feedback in order to fix bugs and balance classes better. You can't expect the game to be as polished at launch as a game that has been released for 4 years

    or this little gem

i'll never use xfire but I plan to play WAR for a long time.

So if this is toward the end of your first month that you have quite - your post I quoted must have been made in your first 10 days.

As right as that is, if the OP didn't have fun he shouldn't waste his time playing it.... But we are a bit tired of the beta testing talk, yeah the game would be better if the releaed it 6 months later but would the people who left stayed then?

j am not so sure about that, more content doesn't change the fact that you got bored after 1-8 weeks anyways.

While Mythic should have aimed more for the RvR and used the lore better, still, this is a nisched PvP game and everyone can't like it. Everyone doesn't like Wow either, even though they try to aim for the bigger masses.

Just get over it and start playing something else if you didn't like it.

Cut the crap with trying to label anyone who criticizes something as a troll, and anyone who defends/promotes something as a 'fanboi', thats about the dumbest thing you could do. If you're too young and immature to have a real discussion about MMO's and life, then why are you even posting?

The fact is WOTLK is the superior game at the moment, and WAR is one of the many games under it hoping they somehow strike a similar success. As someone quoted above, I was once a defender of WAR almost to the point of ignoring the reality of things, but no more of that. it's easy to take a stance of hating WoW when you're playing the game that is suffering from its existance and resent the people who are playing that other game, but look at things from a neutral perspective and you know that its all true. We all only have one life ot live, thus if you are not totally satisfied with WAR you should leave it, not necessarily to play WOTLK but it's the best thing going right now and in a time of economic crisis, it's not something you have to worry about buying and not enjoying.  Can't say the same about WAR though, and if I could go back and do things again, I wouldn't have bought WAR. Thats not trolling, thats the truth, mythic botched everything short of misspelling the name of the game on the box.

I'm sorry you couldn't read more than half of a post without trying to dismiss me as trolling, and to the person slinking around my post history, what changed in the last few weeks is my father was diagnosed with cancer which gave me a new appreciation for the fragiliity and shortness of life, thus made me re-assess why i'm playing a game i'm not fully enjoying. I'm sorry you can't understand that and are a 15 year old lil kid with no responsibilities or hardships in life, maybe one day you'll grow up a little and realize what i'm saying is true. Team spirit might be the only reason a lot of you are sticking with this game and hating on WoW, but like it or not it's a better game as of today and thus a better use of one's free time. That very well may change in the future but to try and deny it now would make you the troll.

P.S. You certainly can't argue against me if you haven't played WOTLK yet either and are basing your opinion on past assumptions, what I posted before was based on the turn the game had taken in BC but it is much improved now.

Sorry to hear about your dad.

Lol - if you checked my profile you would see I am 42, and whats not in my profile - is married, 4 kids, building a house, selling a house etc etc so responsibility and growing up isnt an issue here.

In terms of WOTLK - never played WOW, no interest in ever playing it but thanks for the suggestion.

My post was merely pointing out its quite a turn around in 21 days for you. In the same timeframe for me - I am still playing and enjoying WAR.

It is completely VILE and DISGUSTING that someone would use an event like their father getting cancer to try and push an agenda for promoting one video game over another. I think im going to go throw up now. This board has hit a low I don't think I ever could have imagined. Troll, should be friggin ashamed of yourself for this filth.

You claim to have a new found appreciation for life, and you use it to flame a game and other posters? To state all your opinions as undisputable facts? Thats your new found appreciation?! If your father really was diagnosed with cancer, you insult him and your whole family with this kind of behavior. Good DAY sir.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
    Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
