Fallout 3 the MMORPG

ginettiginetti Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 301

Got to say, i'm really enjoying this game right now.

The setting is brilliant for a MMORPG me thinks.

What do you guys think, would you play a post apocalyptic style MMORPG?

Want to feel like Mad Max?

Or like you're living in the world of 'fist of the north star' ?

I think it'd be totally sweet *thumbs up for 7 seconds*

My HARDCORE Story

  • I would like to say yes because Fallout freaking rules. However an MMO is being made by Interplay and must be complete by 2010 or they lose the right to make one. The setting itself doesn't lend well to an MMO due to the nature of the Fallout universe. It's supposed to be a barren wasteland with not a whole lot of survivors. If they recreated the entire US though then it would work very well. Anywho....there is a post apocalyptic MMO coming out soon. It is in Alpha right now and is called Fallen Earth. It's looking pretty decent so far if you catch my drift. "wink, wink"

Yes I think it would make a great mmo, it's one of those rare single-player games where the setting/lore actually allows for mmo gameplay. Interplay must also agree since they are developing a Fallout mmo right now.

*edit* I think the setting alows for a great mmo, if they time the actual timeline right. Always wanted to be able to play as one of those raiders, or maybe even a super mutant, which there are plenty of. Might of just been me but there were a bunch of people in the fallout 3 world, pirates, supermutants, ghouls, townsfolk, wastelanders etc.

Why are you making another thread about this topic in a short period of time?

Do you work for the game makers/publisher or something?

And as I said in your other thread post screenshots because talk is cheap.

Aha, ok, you are talking about that you want it to be online, don't you even know that a Fallout MMO is in the making as we speak?!

Most of the time someone says, this game would make a great MMO! I'm thinking, no, it wouldn't. Because the single player game just doesn't translate to a good grouping game.

But Fallout 3? I'ts perfect. The Mobs to fight, the "dungeons", the skills, the gear, everything would work great for an MMORPG.

Fallout 3 is pretty awesome but i dont think as an mmorpg it would appeal to all people but hell what game really does, either way im enjoying it solo and thats enough.

  • MidnitteMidnitte Member Posts: 510

Not like the fallout 3 developers are making the fallout MMO, interplay still holds the rights for such game, only if they fail to release an mmo within a certain amount of time does Bethesda get the rights to actually develop a fallout mmo.

Either way we're promised a good fallout mmo I suppose. :)

YES! Fallen Earth is going to be the MMO of all time! I cannot wait to play game, and I sure hope they get the open beta out soon! You should all check it out, because I think you will love it as much as I do, and you can check it out at  www.fallenearth.com. Let me know what you all think about it. But hell yes, Fallout 3 is GREAT! I love that game as well, and it is fantastic.

    Take care all,

I don't mind advertising a game, but it says it's been in development for years, and there's not one screenshot.

I'd enjoy a Fallout based MMO.  Fallen Earth may be a good game, only time will tell.

The best parts of Fallout 3:

    - VATS combat

    - huge amount of interactive conversations and read dialogue

    - effecting the world

They aren't really possible in an mmo.  And without these features there isn't really much left besides a regular MMORPG just with a different setting.

Don't get me wrong, it would be a great setting for an MMORPG, but there would need to be something else new to make it worth the effort and time.

bethesda dont have the rights to fallout mmo yet, another company does and it has until april to get 30 mil, if they fail to do so bethesda will get the right to the fallout mmo, it was acually posted here on the forums before

  • skeaserskeaser Member RarePosts: 4,208

But, a post apocolyptic MMO would only be good if it sucked. Too many people at once ruins the feeling.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

Indeed, it was. Considering interplay has a strong fallout background (fallout, fallout 2), I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Here is a good compilation of screens from a site that I googled. Check it out and see how good this game will look upon release. photo.mmosite.com/fallenearth I hope you like them!

Oh and Ihmotepp, this is not a closed thread about fallout 3. He ask in the original post about an MMO based on this setting. Can you read before you retort? That would be lovely, thanks!!

This was a awsome game though it only took me 26 hours the first time to finish it. I'm pretty much a PVP player but something that hooked me was how NPC's responded in relation to your responses which could be whatever you liked it be it kind and considered or a total a-hole. The game was immersive from that aspect alone. It's the first game i've played in ages that actually impressed me or made me want more in ages. Then a few days later i buy ANOTHER MMO ie LOTRO and well i can tell right now i won't last beyond the first month simply because of its lack of PVP. The PVE was same o same o boring and boring. I wish MMO could capture the immersion factor of single player games but so far noone have. Like many have said this is a desolate world and MMOing it just wouldnt fit the game. I ranked this 10/10 . Its worth the money all the way.

Fallen Earth (or was it Earthrise...damn those games with similar names) is already doing a Post appocolyptic setting and it looks quite good.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

I think alot of the old timers like Fallout cause it is still based on the basics of the old games. Sadly no MMOs give you that freedom now.  Its all preplanned by devs and if not then its "not working as intended" and changed.

As far as PVE in MMOs is conserned...  there is nothing preventing those big companies to make a good AI for MMO PVE content.  Thing is - they are not doing it... There IS no AI in MMOs atm - its all preplanned 100% and NPCs are not reacting to what the or how the players or groups or raids are playing.  Its just the other way around... players are reacting to what preprogrammed npc is doing...

AI in MMOs could be made ALOT stronger.  For example the type of dmg (melee - magic - ranged or whatever) could make the MOB react diffrently or defend in special way and so on.  This is not happening atm.  Hell... they are STILL struggling with pathing......

    Use the edit key :P

My idea is that fallen earth, earthrise, etc has been mentioned in this thread a decent amount of times. We get it, your hyped about the game. Talk about fallout 3 instead. :(

Very good points. VATS combat, well maybe you could work something out that would feel kinda sorta like VATS.

But huge amount of interactive conversations and dialog with NPCs, yea, that doesn't fit in an MMORPG, IMO. You play an MMORPG to play with other people, but  if you're going to spend all your time on NPC dialog and conversations, why do you need to be online?

I think you could definitely do a MMORPG where you affect the world, but it woould have to be different from Fallout 3. You can't affect the world by yourself in an MMORPG, but with other players, why not?
