Desperation is getitng the better of me and I am honestly looking for a expansive MMO that I truly enjoy. My history is a long one in the MMO universe ranging all the way back to Ultima Online. Many games managed to keep my interest from EQ to DAOC. However lately I've been going through different MMOs looking for just ONE to actually keep my interest for more then a week and I wont deny that I never gave LotRO much of a chance since I was never a fan of the Tolkien universe, yes yes let the stone throwing begin but at least I'm honest. However I've been hearing more and more positive official reviews however as a entiriy how does everyone actually feel about the game.
And yes I know that my sincerity will probably be called on however I amazingly enough I only just found this site when doing a search through the Darkfall forums.
PS: Anyone know how to get a free trial for the game? I heard that they used to have them.

While being a Tolkien fan I respect your view in respect to the lore. I played Lotro during beta phase and somehow I didn't feel at home.... now getting curious after all this good press for MoM I started the trial and I like it so much more. Somehow they added enough content for single players and it's somehow easier to find ppl to grp with!
But the story of the books is really the driving element of this game, so I don't know if you'd like it (best try it out)... I have to say that it's much better in respect to story driven advancement compared to WoW (which I found not so interesting at all). One thing I really like about Lotro is the fact that you don't need to spend loads of time at a session.
I heard that the US trial is on hold for the moment (due to the expansion). But living in Europe I had no problems getting a key here! Perhaps try it there: www.lotro-europe.com/

Personally I enjoy the game quite a bit and have found it very fun. I think this may have to do with the lore element though. What kind of MMO are you looking for?
I'll play anything from strong pvp to strong pve. I played EQ as a hardcore raider up till the Sleeper event. I played WoW as a hardcore raider in everything from MC up to BT. I've played heaviliy in the pvp scenrio from Daoc to EQ 2 as a outcast. It's just......... no games really grab me anymore I guess because none have that true challenge for me.
To be honest LotrO isnt a "challenging" game, its for casual players so maybe it wont fit you. But there is a chance that you will like this new pace and enjoy it for what it is. With that said, with the new expansion the devs are "taking there gloves of" and Moria is not a very friendly place, the mobs are much tougher and smarter and the enviroment is much harder to explore. Overall I find this game to be less "hand holding" than games like WoW, AoC and WAR.
Request a buddy key in the stickied thread in this forum and Im sure someone will send you one so you can try it out.

But. during raids and being a Guardian can be a pain in the arse. Tyring to hold aggro away from the Hunters and LM's makes me crazy! No on to the topic. I agree, I also have a hard time sticking with one MMO. Seems like they all having something missing, and I simply cannot figure out what it is. But LOTRO is a great game, and with the expansion, it just got a whole lot better IMOP. Try it out with that buddy key, and hopefully it will satisfy you!
