Best Crafting System for Medieval MMO?

donjndonjn Member UncommonPosts: 816

I am really curious abut the public perception of which medieval MMO right now has the best crafting system. By medieval I mean non-science fiction. I think we already know that Ryzom, EVE and SWG had very good crafting systems.

But as far as old world sword and shield MMOs, crafting seems to be lacking. I am talking about crafting items that are useful, fun, and profitable. All while not being so tedious.

i can't believe you have WoW up there .... wow among many things it has dumbed down crafting is downright mindnumbing. At least EQ2 and Vanguard try to make a minigame out of it ... warcraft is just "click the button wait for action bar to fill and make the item".

    how thrilling!

i would say best crafting is EQ2 or Vanguard ... they seem very well done.

I will second the crafting in Vanguard.

VG all the way. The best crafting I've seen in an MMO.

I know but there are A FEW cool things about WoW crafting like making your own flying helicopter, etc.

FYI, I hate Everquest 2 to the core so I hope it does not win. I actually like Vanguard better although it is flawed.

Like I said crafting should also be fun and cool as well. Believe me, I know WoW has bad crafting but I included it anyway.

I have downloaded the Everquest 2 demo 5 times in my life. I could never last more than 10 minutes. The engine has not been updated to make use of dual core machines, AND the game is CPU bound so nomatter if it is the year 2020, it will run like crap with shadows on.

I hate the artwork with a passion. The "human" male characters eye are laughably too close together so they look cross-eyed. The coloring of all areas look very bland. The world when I log in just does not fele alive to me at all.

But lets not turn this into an EQ2 debate because I know it will go there. These were just my opinions.

    Back to crafting!

I'm sorry but i just have to say:

    a. the engine has been updated to use dual cores and

    b. have you tried Soga models?

Edit: The main reason I say this is because I do think EQ2 has a very good crating system so you should give a full chance. just my opinion tho

The update about 2 months ago included dual core support.  In addition, SOGA models were recently revamped a bit.  Personally, I can not stand the original models, but the alternate models are OMG.

Also, with the latest xpack, they must have done something with the graphics.  Our guild ran a raid dungeon that we ran a billion times previously.  Well, this past time through, I noticed textures and shadows that I have never seen before.  The 3d rendering was just mind blowing supurb!  Oh, and for anyone in the know, it was a LABS raid (yea i know, only t7, but we were running mostly alts and some newbies through it while trying out a new tank)

I'd say Atlantica Online. Crafting is very detail oriented, and broad, but not to the point of being mundane or micro-management. What I love is that I can have a work-load that crafts as I battle - a great use of on-line time.

boo I can't mention ATITD- imo the most enjoyable crafting I've tried but isn't medievil really.

  • charlespaynecharlespayne Member UncommonPosts: 381
The problem with ATITD is it is almost dead, as i use to play it and i never saw another person at all for months.
