Soooooon, young Quarksin, soon. -Ordin "was the repsonce when asked WHEN IS OPEN BETA COMING!!! also "There are a few things that have to happen behind the scenes here before we give you an exact date. I know you are all anxious; I would be too in your shoes.

In the mean time why aren't you all carving pumpkins or designing costumes? You don't want to win World of Warcraft Collector's Editions? "

    hmm.

Last part of that quote gives me the idea that open beta wont start until Nov 1. Interesting...it would make sense. Open Beta for 2 weeks is enough to wet the lips of potential buyers.

It's a very good marketing technic.  Kudos to the guys over at WoW. image

OB will almost definitely start on or before the 29th of this month, when Arenanet start the public preview of Guild Wars. That's pretty much a given.

Here's the latest blue text from the Blizz forums...

"Open beta: It's taking a little longer than we expected to get all the specifics down. We don't want to release any information until we are sure it is correct."

Typically ambiguous, but better than nothing I guess......

Yeah, I started getting pissed off about the whole "soon" thing too, but I'm consoled by the fact that however long I have to wait, that wait will eventually end.

When it comes down to it, Blizzard could say "OB will start tomorrow", then say "HAHAHAHA!! Ya stupid f*ckin idiots! We gotcha pretty darn good that time! HAHAHAHA!!!!!", and I'd still wait patiently for the game. It's just that damn good.

LOL it is? Sorry but that was one of the biggest marketing blunders to date from Bliz. Ever heard of the backbone of customer satisfaction? Under promise and over deliver.

Had they planned to have OB begin on the 28th or 29th they should have posted "OPEN BETA will begin on or around Nov 1". Then nobody would be bitching and complaining, they would have a built in time cushion for emergency and, when they actually released it on the 28th with a...

"BECAUSE OF THE HARD WORK OF THE BLIZZARD TEAM AND THE GREAT SUPPORT FROM THE GAMING COMMUNITY WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE START OF OPEN BETA SIGNUPS EARLIER THAN ANTICIPATED"

    1. Blizzard would be heroes.
    2. Their fans would flood the forums with "BLIZ ROXXORS"
    3. They would appear to have their crap together being able to do something ahead of when they "publically" projected.
    4. They would generate community momentum leading into the release.

Meh.... Blizz are never on time with anything, but when it does arrive it's always so polished you can see your face in it.

No ****... as much as I like Blizzard and all the hard work the devs are doing OB has nothing to do with THEM as much as 'other' people. The boys of blue ink had said so themselves that it is out of their hands...

But being honest with us was... and they blew it for whatever reason. I totally agree with your comment.

I KNEW it wouldn't be more than two weeks for OB look how high powergamers got in 12 days???

But to Hold off on any information for whatever the reason this long after they blundered and gave off the green light with that Mag add... Just sloppy.

After the last patch it really screwed with game in a big way....* well big as Stress test made the game look all but done right there.. toss in some talents poof.. game ready image* all due to them being rushed... Now if they want to save the game I suggest we get on the ball and release it before they push any more blunders thru the doors... maybe if the game is OB and goes gold then the devs can take a week off and save their marriges. image

I'd blame some marketing dumbass for the magazine ad, which they pulled almost immediately from what I hear.

However, I've been hearing that EB has posters up saying it will be in the store on the 16th. No clue if that's another screw up from marketing, just bullshit from people stirring up rumors, or what. I only go to the mall if absolutely neccesary, and checking to see if there is a WoW poster in the window doesn't count.

I really don't see the big deal. I don't think any of you will die if you don't get to play right now, histrionics aside. The more you sit here clicking refresh, the longer the wait will seem. In the meantime, go outside, get some nookie. Read a book, Eat a liberal for jesus. Something.

Here's an idea. Channel some of that frenetic energy into writing emails to the SciFi channel, your local governmental representative, and anyone else you can think of to get Farscape back on the air. That would be a product use of your free time until WoW comes out.

Ditto, Coldmeat, except for the Neo-Con advice.  Survival is assured until WoW arrives; and, at some point after it does, we will all wonder why we waited with such anticipation.  Had a French girlfriend once who dramatically exclaimed, as we were leading up to the obligatory sex scene, "Desire is better than having" roughly translated.  Somehow that phrase pops up when I think of waiting for WoW.

Here's an idea. The "get a life" statement coming from someone in the closed beta of BOTH WOW and EQ2 further reinforces my opinion that you are a complete Fucktard.

  • OchosiOchosi Member Posts: 24

Hmm...that does seem to water it down, doesn't it, Tombs? lol.  So...Cold...you could turn your life around from your fucktard ways by donating your beta accounts...What do you say? I wish that I could remember the name of the poster who did just that to his WoW account on these boards.  Sainthood would not be far behind....

Doesn't even need to be both. One will get you complete Fucktard Absolution ::::28::

Actually, I think you didn't pay attention to what my good man Enigma was getting at here.

If a developer/marketer were to think of a time frame that would entrap people to get hooked on a game, and then want to buy it because of their addiction that would be complete genius.  So, a two week time frame is long enough for someone to learn the game, get into their character and then want to progress.

So from the standpoint of a company wanting the "target market" to go out and get their game from addiction is just pure genius.

    Kudos image
