Starting to lock threads on Spellborn Official Forums , AoC all over again ...

summitussummitus Member UncommonPosts: 1,414

Here is an example of the Spellborn Developers total disregard for what their user base are saying ...

"As I have explained in the other thread: http://www.tcos.com/sbforum/viewtopic.php?p=233188#233188 people from the countries under Frogster/Mindscape will be not eligible (aka IP banned) from playing on Acclaim servers and Frogster/Mindscape will IP ban people from Acclaim territories.

Also, since we have a couple of thread on the matter as it is and this one moves towards personal bickering, here comes the lock.

what do you mean? its not the devs fault acclaim got hold of the license for the UK (next to the US/Oceania)

also, like the community manager states, this is thread nr 1836746328 on this so stop complaining and just dont buy the game then if its gonna be aoc all over again

    MMOs currently playing: -
About to play: Lord of the Rings Online
Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)

  • weaseltjeweaseltje Member UncommonPosts: 19

I don't see a comparison,. They clearly explain why the thread is locked.  There are enough other threads to discuss the it.

  • weaseltjeweaseltje Member UncommonPosts: 19

It has nothing to do with fanboiism. If people start opening different threads about the same thing on any forum. The thread gets locked, that's a simple fact and part of forum etics.

Oh ? Well who's fault is it Einstein ?

hmm let me guess, the publisher... the decision on licenses cant be reversed now even if minscape/frogster wanted to.

its not like they can freely choose any publisher, a small indy company like them is bound to make concessions to a big publisher like acclaim. just dont expect them to tell you that.

OP, are you serious? They clearly stated that they were locking the thread because there were multiple threads on the same topic. Anyone with any sort of moderating sense would know that a forum becomes spam unless threads are controlled, which is what they are doing...

  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

Locking repeat threads is pretty common action in most forums. Saves bandwidth, storage and the possibility of someone ranting and getting offensive slipping by undetected in the landslide. They even do it here, now and again.

  • AlengwanAlengwan Member Posts: 54

Looks like OP is barking at the wrong tree this time. If you look at their forums, almost every second thread is about the same thing, can't blame them for getting rid of the few derailed ones.

mmo developers just dont know their customer base..this was an idiotic move on the part of acclaim and the chronicles of spellborn. its almost like developers want their games to fail. I really cant see a good mmo being released again as there is too much licencing and fat cats with their fingers in the cookie jar. This is not about making games its about money, and mmo developers have crossed the line of criminal and fruadlent activities many times..fuck them and their games.

Am I missing the point here, or are you criticizing the company for locking a thread ona  subject that had already been covered?

If it's the latter, I think it's a bit out of line. No need for forums to be clogged with threads on the same subjects... it's just silly. If we had more manpower here, we'd do the same thing and so would just about any other professional forum.

If you're criticizing locking the thread because it's critical of the policy... you have a point.

by the way, this kind of thing is why more and more companies are going to opt not to host their own forums.

Not having an official forum just proves even more that they dont want to listen to their "paying" customers. They're basically saying "buy the game and shut the hell up", with no forums. Seriously if someone investigated these mmo companies and the way they threat their customers with numerous lies and marketing scams they would literally be shut down.

Jon yes you have missed alittle bit in that post,Banshee was answering a question asked a couple of pages into the thread, here is the full quote...

    Ravel wrote:

Personally, I am just waiting around to see which way it will go. When they officially split Europe up by IP blocking for different publishers I am out of here too. When no clear statement is made I will wait and not buy the game till things have become clear. I can wait.

The thread was closed because of the bickering not because of the question having been answered, that wasnt the topic starter.

Now I dont blame them for locking this thread as it did start to be me bickering with another poster as he didnt care about the ip blocking and was saying other stupid things about the release.

Banshee and Mirage have always been really fair over at the forums and I dont think they are doing anything wrong tbh and still wish them all the best even though I wont be playing.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Not true. As a good exmeple, you could think about Mytic (WAR) ArenaNet/Ncsoft (GW).

Have a look, on ArenaNet/Ncsoft, since they have been dealing with GW players at non Ofical forums for the last 3 years, and they prove, it works just fine

Exactly. Companies don't need official forums. I don't blame them for not wanting them.

Well, It clearly explains why he lock it. Im really f**** with tcos cose i live in spain and they ignore us, but you can't "figure out" whatever you want to blame them.

By they way, I went to Tcos page, clicked on "To the new player site" (where you are suposed to create an account and all that) and i got redirected to Aklaim webpage about Tcos and I lve in spain, spain is in europe for the ones who dont know. Am I supose to play in USA servers? will I have an Ip Block when I try to play after Account Creation?, See? this is a really good reason to blame them all haha!

Edit: Sorry now I see you already said you are sorry about you first post, so I changed a little bit the post.
