Hello guys,
I decided to give LOTRO a try given the generally positive comments I read about the game on various sites, (plus I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan). I just picked up a collector's edition of mines of moria last week, because I figured it would probably the best time to get into the game. I made a champion, currenty lv 12, since I like warrior-like dps classes. This leads me to the question....what are the benefits of dual wielding vs 2h weapon in this game? Is it just for looks or is one option better than the other? Any help is appreciated it.
By the way, from what I can tell so far, this game has one of the best and most mature communities I have ever seen.
Playing: LOTRO (server: Meneldor), Warhammer Online (a bit disappointed but armor looks cool hehe)
Played/Retired: WoW (not gonna get into that :P )

Welcome to the game. I'm not a champ but my understand is that duel wielding generally causes more damage. Reasons for using a 2H weapon over duel wielding would include having a specific damage type your 1Hs don't have, or better stats than your 1Hs. How to determine when your 2H is better than your 2 1H's, I don't really know
2 handers generally cause more damage and higher crit/special attack damage, are much slower and take less power overall, Dual wield attacks faster and allows more special attacks but burns power more rapidly.
At lvl 12, your weapon choice/quality matters more. In general, your one handed weapons you are wielding should be about 90% of the DPS of the 2h to get similar damage output. The official forums have numerous posts going over the math behind this.
as a champ i really would like to suggest you duel wield. its just what champions do i had a like...lvl 29 captain when i use to play. bod i wish i rolled a champ =[.
hmm i really am concidering returning! the only reason i quit is because my pc could barely run lowest setting, now my new pc can run it easy on max settings. might have 2 re install the game

I would recommend subbing (if not for at least a month) just to see the game in all its Ultra High glory... it looks fantastic! (though the game is really fun and those that enjoy having fun would sub for it for more than a month :P )
Thanks for the advice.
Yes the graphics and the world in this game are beautiful. As
a matter of fact, when I first looked around i went like this . I am really enjoying the game,
can't wait to get to Moria!!!
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
I play a Champ and have found one great advantage to dual-wielding... You can use two different weapons with different traits. For example, I currently have a Dwarf-Craft Axe and a Precise Westernesse Axe. The Dwarf Crafter gives me +10 Might and +31 Max Power. The Westernesse gives me +12 Agility and +35 Max Morale. This extra bit a tweaking available makes your toon build even more interesting....
My opinion about 2H vs dual wield. They are similar but the differences all based on:
1. The weapon damage range, dps and speed.
2. If you have special 1H to dual weield, it will be more powerful than a normal 2H, vice versa.
3. 2H has larger damages per strike so if you AOE in a group, you will see 720, 720, 720, 720 on the screen and they only came from 2H champion.
4. 1H weapon usually faster than 2H, so I think dual wield is good for PVP, unfortunately, there is only monster play. Champion uses Might different from Burgler dual wield based on agility for critical hit. So dual wield with daggers has poor result even it is faster.
