Did they remove it, or were there not enough people in game to warrent more than 1 instance?

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.

This is correct. FC used a unique method to solve this whole instancing problem. With unfinished game, horrible patches and bad customer service, they made 90% of players quit. This way you will never get more than one instance. Smart move really.

Well yes, less people are playing AOC now then at lunch, but alot of players are coming back, since AOC has improved alot and will improve alot more.

There ARE people playing. Mostly hardcore fans who stayed while 90% of playerbase quit. Couple of servers have medium population but I haven't seen more than 1 instance in a long time (I play in Aquilonia). Then again I only play for about 1 hour a week just to see if things have improved.

Out of curiosity do you have any proper datas that 90% left or is it just a guess? :P

Only FC has "proper data" on subscription numbers. All we do here is use different sources like Xfire (yes I know it's evil) and make an educated guess. All the evidence points out to the fact that AoC lost 85-90% of playerbase during first couple of months.

Did you play from launch? If you did, you could easily see the daily decline in sub numbers. My guild went from 300-400 members to maybe 20-30 in a very short time and so did many other guilds. Every day there were less and less players online and I was playing on the most populated EU server, Aquilonia. In the end it honestly felt like 99% had quit.

Hardcore fans here say "it's not 90% because you have no proof!" but deep inside they know the numbers are correct. I should probably stop using that number so people wouldn't be provoked.

I have played launch and I'm fully aware they lost shitloads of members, and as you say Xfire is the evilness of thi ngs to measure subscriber base around as it is far from accurate. Was just curios if people actually had some solid data other then xfire :P

All public evidence is purely observation and anecdotal. In game player search functions, published shareholder reports on company income, and comparisons of number of instances operating in zones between now and launch.

The optomistic folks are claiming 200K ish subs. Others guessing as low as 80K. The truth is probably in the middle, but FC isn't telling for what ever reason ( my guess, they are embarased )

The instancing regulates itself because if it didn't the areas would be packed, and people would bump into each other all over the place.

When there's less people, there's less instancing.

If he doesn't want the instancing he basically wants a server with less people, and Funcom won't change the size of the zones for him or everyone else, that's left for AoC2...

So agree with the guy saying this is a retarded thread yes.

The instancing is like it's always been I recon. In the most popular zones, like Khesh, you'll still frequently see more than one instance, while most other zones will most often be have one instance.

During launch everyone was in the same zones, so the instancing system was a lot more evident then. Now the player base is spread out more, and there are less toons on at once, so you'll experience a lot less of it.

The game would have to be completely rebuilt to remove the instancing.  However as others have pointed out, the instancing of areas was done automatically to balance population loads, as the population dropped it became less necessary for multiple instances of the same area to be created.

Keep in mind the game is also heavily zoned. No real travelling around between areas, just a lot teleporting from area to area.

  • xpiherxpiher Member UncommonPosts: 3,310

This game will never remove world instanceing because it requires a lot of resources to run due to having high graphics. Sorry, but you'll never see more than 50 people in one zone, unless they up the cap.

The game world is still huge, it just feels smaller because you can quick travel to most places.

if they lessened the instancing and merged servers I would probably come back.

they would probably have to decrease the graphics tho :O

or fix low settings (which where more hardware demanding than high!!!)

Cant rly see why its so retarded. I played AoC at launch and loved it all the way to lvl 35. The only part i rly hated was grouping, because it was so hard with the instancing. Took lige an hour to finally get into the same instance. And that killed my immersion of a open free world totally.

But that dosnt change the fact that i liked the game.

And its funny your writing "he basically wants a server with less people". Have you never played another mmo? It is possible to make 1 server with lots of people and still have fun.

But now someone tells me, that they have removed the instancing, and that make me wanna play again. But im not gonna pay 20$ to find out he was "adjusting" the truth. So excuse me for asking!

But seeing the mature crowd answering to this thread (sorry to those who answered my question, and not just flaming me), dont make me wanna go back to AoC at all. Ill just go back to lotro, where ppl actually are nice, and theres no such thing as a stupid question.!

Regarding getting the group in the same instance, that's something they've fixed. If you zone into a different instance than your group, you'll get a messagebox askiing if you want to switch to the same instance as your other team members. So that's at least not an issue any more.

But if instances and zones at its core is breaking the game for you, I would think that AoC will never be your favorite. That's just the way they decided to design it.

Come back in 5 years. There is a limit in what todays technology can do. If you want graphics like AoC in an MMO it has to be instanced. AoC instanced are maxed at about.. what, 50 players? If there were more people in one instance, everyone would lag like crazy and it would come unplayable.

If you are looking for sandbox, Darkfall is coming out soon. Graphics are no where near AoC but combat system sounds interesting. DF also has many other cool features which I hope will make it in launch.

Really? 90% of posters here trash talk AoC? Interesting. Did you know that that is the EXACT same number of players who quit AoC during the first couple of months. So lets see..

90% of posters trash talk the game

90% of players quit the game

Sounds right to me. It just means 90% of players didn't like the game and feel it's their responsibility to tell the world.

Btw I played AoC last weekend using my friends account. I got bored in less than an hour. I Might try it again tomorrow if I have time. How about you?

Since you don't have proof for what you say, you mentioning the 90% number 200 times does not make it any more true. Using words like "EXACT" wont help either.

As I've said in that regard before; our only source of hard data until january is the Q3 report. The rest is speculation.

I am not here to say that AOC did not have a lot of flaws when it launched. It did. And I know since I have played this game since Closed beta. But what I'm saying is that a LOT of what people say here is outdated info and pure vile hatred.

And to the topic: Yes, AoC is an instanced game. The problems concerning instances and teaming has been fixed. There are both helpful and unhelpful people in AoC; as everywhere else. Many servers have low population. Others have not. One of the more populated servers which I have chars on has never had less than two instances in Tortage during prime time that I have seen. I don't fiind instancing a problem. Others do.

If you get bored playing AoC, Scaredgirl, that's fine with me. But are you certain that we need 200 posts in a weeks time to get that piece of information??

Oh, no. Not 90% of the posters at all. Just some very, very vocal posters, who manage to totally dominate this forum and constantly downtalk a game, they have cancelled ages ago.

The thing is, the normal or at least avarage forum member comes here perhaps once a day and posts a couple of answers. There is no way they can counterbalance this onslaught from some very determined posters.

I will probably also avoid the AoC forum here again. It is just badly managed and throws a bad light on the MMORPG.com forums altogether.

I've also played since closed beta. Almost a full year now. And I still go online every week to avoid telling outdated info. While they have made many improvements, the game is still basically the same. I don't like it when people tell others that the game is "totally different now! It's amazing!!!". It's not. And everyone can go online to see for themselves if they don't believe me.

You said: "The problems concerning instances has been fixed.". What you mean by this? I think for many people the problem with instances is that there ARE instances in the first place and you cannot fix that. As long as we get those pretty graphics, instances are here to stay.

Like what OP here is asking. They haven't "fixed" that. You still get multiple instances in the same zone (provided there are enough players).

And once again we finish with a personal attack regarding  my post history.. I haven't written 200 posts in a weeks time. Get your facts straight. And who are you to judge me on how many posts I write? This is a public forum. If I want, I can write 1000 posts. I had some time, I wrote posts on this forum and others. So what?
