I am coming back! Questions : D

So I have been on hiatus from gaming for about 4 months now and I decided to come back to DDO! I played it for a month or two awhile back and really enjoyed it but decided to just stick with LOTRO / Vanguard. But now my gaming rig has broken and now I must use my friends "omg-why-is-this-computer-so-shitty" computer that was in a corner of his basement. But oh well, this game is semi-old so i can probably ( I pray..) run it on very low or something. I just have a few questions before I jump back into the game!

1) what are the popular classes?

2) how does raiding work? I know that they add to the level cap every few months so does that make some raids obsolete?

3) I only played this game for 2 months and i still dont understand the rule set...did they make it any easier to understand?

4) what is the least popular class?

5) Is end game any fun?

6) whats the most populated server!

Thanks for all the help!

EDIT: Just realized the trial site is down...I have no clue how I am going to play now : [ could anyone send me a free trial? Thanks : D

1.) That depends entirely on your preferred playstyle. The only ones that might get a little crap are Monks and some multiclass builds because some people fear what they don't understand :)  If you are asking to make sure you can always get in groups then You would probably want a Cleric

2.) Raids are 12 player groups instead of 6. Most have pre-req quests that you have to complete to unlock them.

3.) The next module (should be out in a few weeks, it's on the test server right now) has completely redone the starter area of the game and character creation to make it much easier for new players and those not familiar with D&D rules.

4.) My guess would be Monk, not because they suck, but because it takes a while to figure out how to play them and not everybody understands where they fit in a group. A well played Monk is a sight to see.

5.) *points to signature* Couldn't tell ya

6.) I'm not sure, I only play permadeath and don't pug so no idea how the servers are in general, but If I never have trouble finding a permadeath group to run with you shouldn't have much trouble finding a group with the other 99% of players

I think they're all popular since I've never seen a shortage or one or the other.

Raids are 12 player groups in instances that can be a lot more difficult then your standard quest.  Regardless of the level cap increase players still revist older quests for loot, favor, with alts, or gold old shits & giggles.

There is going to be a new character creation provess that has pre-established templates that will auto select the pre-determined skills, feats, and spells for you if this is what you wish.

Out of all the classes I think see less Monks, but that's not an identifier.

End game content can be fun although it tends to revolve around Raids.  When it comes down to it, the end game content is about social gaming and loot farming.

Not sure, I play on Ghallanda.  There's normally close to 10 groups looking for players although odd hours you're likely to find less.

    1. It really does depend on your style. However, DDO character generation system has updated with prebuilds to help you out. I would stick with Barbarian or Fighter if you want to melee or Wizard for arcane caster (they have all the spells). If you want to almost guarantee a party pick up, go with a cleric healer.

    2. Raids differ from parties in that there are 12 people allowed in a raid rather than a party of 6. The first raid you will come to is Tempest Spine. There is no prerequisites for this raid; you simply walk right in. This is at around level 9 or so. The next raid in progression is The Vault of Night. There is a full story line for this raid meaning there are prereqs. The Laughing Knives are needed to help you complete this raid but you must get their support. Tharansk Arena, Prisoner of the Mind, Jungles of Khyber, and Haywire's Foundry are the places where you find each member of the Laughing Knives. The last prereq is Von 5, where you must clean out the bank and at the end you will enter Vault of Night (the raid). All of the raids will be like the two mentioned here. Some are walk-ups, some have prereqs. Most of the raids are ran by high level character (except Tempest Spine) on a regular basis. Some of the loot is still usefull.

    3. Yes. With the new character creation system, Turbine has allowed people who do not understand the rule set well to be more comfortable in their decisions. Also, on the official DDO website, there is a players compendium that you can use at your leisure to better acquaint yourself  with weapons, armor, magical items, classes, etc.

    4. Least popular class is the rogue. There is a debate as to whether they can do anything beside take down traps but the rogue community is working hard on changing that perception.

    5. End game is a blast. But imho, all the levels are fun. Each new mod brings something different and unique. Each level is the same, as you progress, the challenge becomes more difficult and strategy outweighs blindly running through a quest.

    6. Here is a break down of the servers and their traits as done by a player poll. I did not do this poll but it is very useful.

Argonessen - Permadeath Guild (stabilished); lots of new players; Guilds - a few are closed with power players; good number of pugs; Large Populace. - Social Feel of the server - Friendly

Thelanis - Permadeath Guild; lots of players; closed guilds with power players (also some are elitists) and also Open Friendly Guilds; Large Populace. Easy to get Pugs (Unless for raids where some elitists exclude non-sanctified builds) - Social Feel of the Server - Overall Good.

Ghallandha - Good Number of Players; International Power Player Guild (Very good one - Koreans); Average Populace; Around the clock Pugs (Lots of internationals make up for 24/7); Good chance of Pug; Lots of elitists power players. RAID oriented server (if raid is your bussiness come here or to Thelanis) - Social Feel of the Server - Stick to your friends till youre in a stabilished guild.

Khyber - Small number of players, but most are fairly good; You have 2 players who sell supplies at a LARGE discount; Not so many PUGS; Power Players are more friendly than on other servers (Gorn's influence?) - Social Feel of the Server - Feel Good.

Sarlona - Small number of players; most above average; International Chinese Server Merged (lot's of LFM for chinese players on chinese); Closed Guilds with Power Players - Social Feel of the Server - Only one i don't have an opinion formed yet, as i don't play much there.

I hope this helps you and the trial service is back up and running.

    Adventure Well!

    1.  Barbarian w/evasion, Tempest Rangers, Sorcs, Wizards & Clerics seem pretty popular overall. The new fighter and PrE mod 9 coming out shortly  will also create a lot of fighter & paladin love.

    2.  Raiding is 12 man, with higher raid loot drops with a more-full party and higher difficutly settings.  Old raids are consistently revisited -- a few items are always worth it.  Favor and Experience are typical factors for completion as well. The Vault of the Night part 5 (Plane of Night is part 6) is an incredible source of xp and is run quite often, as well as The Tempest Spine Raid(the 2 oldest raids & pre-raid quests in the game).

    3.  NPE New Player Experience is live, operational and totally going to help you while entertaining your new experience.

    4.  Monk or Bard are least encountered.  The monk is one of the most popular splash classes just short of rogue, ranger and paly.

    5.  There are a lot of things to do at end game if you look for them.  There is high-level epic crafting (which is a grind, but it's pretty exciting making your first couple greensteel items).  They always make new high-level content so there's something to look forward to do.  Unlocking all your favor for rewards is also a challenge at end level.  Finally, searching for that +3 tome for a new character or scoring the ultimate weapon is always a challenge to rise up to.  Oh, and finding new and  better ways to do any quest is always a player's challenge to rise up to at end level.

    6.  Argonnessen by default is full of players because it's the first on the list.  I also did a lot of the advertising for Argonnessen from late 2006 to Fall 2007, so we gleaned quite a few players that made it their home after I gave them harbor tours and/or speedily unlocked their drow character slot.

If you're not there already, please feel free to jump on Argonnessen and give Kistilan, Thet, Kephran or Unfettered a tell.  Those are my most-active current characters.  You do have to get off Korthos Island for me to assist you in the harbor, but you should enjoy every minute of Korthos.  It's beautiful & informative (and has some good gear for you).

Well, all the servers are based out of Boston, they're right on the Atlantic.  International player, I'd say Thelanis or Argonessen would be your best bet for getting the feel of the the US servers.

I  just downloaded and started to install the game.  I will check it out tomorrow, never played this game before. I am thinking to roll a human cleric (warpriest)
