Have a look, on ArenaNet/Ncsoft, since they have been dealing with GW players at non Ofical forums for the last 3 years, and they prove, it works just fine

Exactly. Companies don't need official forums. I don't blame them for not wanting them.

Hmm yes and no. It works for GW as you are not subscribing. This is also the biggest selling point for GW - its a one time fee, it would'nt be half as popular if it were subscription based.

However if you are handing money over on a regular basis you want regular contact with the Devs in an official designated spot.

There is also the point of GW being mostly instanced, where as many other MMOs are open worlds - or at least instancing is minimalised and thus decent official forums help to build and strengthen the community as you are more likely to bump into the randoms you talk to on the forums.

Your last point only strengthens my point, as despite the instancing people still aren't complaining about the lack of official forums. Instead they flock to places such as GuildWarsGuru and do what they need to there. Considering the devs respond on a regular basis, and even read forums such as this one,  I can't see why they would need an official forum.

This arguement has been had so many times before.

Look I don't mean to sound rude - but GW is sub par to subscription based games in terms of service, speed of hotfixes, and quality of gaming experience in general (exception AoC xD).

Official forums are a place to:

    1) Build community

    2) Localise important news and announcements (as in you don't have to check 3-4 different sites)

    3) A good place for the fans and customers to be heard for much needed changes and fixes

Then there is also the point that official forums consolidate knowledge etc where as unofficial forums end up with having topics/posts and knowledge being spread thin over multiple forums.

Finally alot of MMORPG gamers are put off games which lack official forums, and sadly for the game to meet its potential it needs as many people subscribing to it as possible.

Edit for clarity: I'm not taking a pop at GW, its just if you pay a subscription for a game, you generally get a better quality product and service.

This is getting seriously off-topic now, so PM it is.
