I just found this game today and I have to say it's looking awesome. Check out this video. It's 250mb but its' worth it. www.tcos.com/downloads/xfer/The_Chronicles_of_Spellborn__Azrael_&_Raznilof_Part1.wmv
I'm surprised that I haven't heard more about this game. I mean the pvp is looking pretty damn good. It looks like you actually need skill to play it. They have this skilldeck system which you can see on the video.
Best of all you can try it for FREE. That's right, free.
It launches tomorrow in some parts of the world. Unfortunately I have to wait for one more week. Go check it out and post your experiences in The Chronicles of Spellborn forum. I want to see what people think of it.
Lol, I sound like a shill or a viral marketer but I assure I'm not I'm just excited because I get to try something new in a long time.

Well, this used to be a Triple A 'upcoming' MMO a year or so ago. Something happened along development (hopefully some fanboy can come along and explain). So this game went from a Triple A -> to 'Darkfall' level.
Latest trailer is proof of it. Thats why the hype just died. No one knew when this game was coming out and stopped following it a long time ago. Back then even I was hyped for this game.
Its concepts do sound interesting however and I look forward to the trial. Checking out that vid.
Im thinking it was because people got into beta and found out how the only thing different about the game was the combat system and it wasn't a good combat system.
I think the mainstream hype died because TCoS is a honest good game. There is nothing to argue about it. The devs have not claimed anythingspecial. The fans have visited the development team and talked.
Everything is so great. And human nature hate when there is nothing to fight about. Example.....Darkfall or the AoC launch.
I'm not totally sure why the hype died either but I can say that they have totally messed up the server system. For example they released the game to some European countries and didn't include others that are also in Europe (UK to name one).
Anyway the games out now in retail version if you live in the right place, go check the website for the countries that its released in.
Did you try it? What's the problem with combat system? Looks pretty good in videos but you never know until you try for yourself.
Hopefully they didn't like the combat system because it was too hard. I would love to see a game like that. A game where you need to practice for weeks before you can master a specific build.
Well, I'm going to try Spellborn no matter what people say. I believe what I look in a game differs a lot from most of gamers and hopefully Spellborn can deliver that.
One thing I've been trying to find out is what kind of PvP battles they have? Arena, open world, what? I haven't seen any info on that yet and it worries me a little bit.

oops
I just got my CB key <<<TODAY>>> and apparently CB is over.
Fucking ridiculous.
Cant wait to try it my self. Here is a beta preview.
www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/207/feature/2475/A-Beta-Look-at-Spellborn
USA launch date has not even been announced. So for players like myself not much to talk about. In addition many of us are hyped out(from so many disappointments).Personally I would like to try it.i signed up for newsletters and beta but never received any communication form the company.So.....
I was in CB for it. NDA was lifted.... I'll probably buy when it comes out. Here's a quick rundown from someone that only got a chance to get to Fame 8 :
Likes:
1. Combat system - No dice rolls. Seemed hard to dodge NPCs. I mean, you can dodge the ranged ones but the melee ones it seemed hard to totally dodge them.
2. PvP - I had some fun hunting people in Hoggsridge. I would use Terrain to my advantage. I played a Trickster so I would hide behind tress and lead off with some arrows from range. This one very nice fight in particular, I caught this Warrior type (never could really tell what 'class' people are in this game) offguard. He runs upclose, I pull out my two hander and he pulls out his and we duke it out for a bit til I scored the win. Was very nice, moving around, dodging, etc
So yeah I liked the pvp
3. Character customization was good but not as good as I'd hoped. Yeah, most people really do look unique. But not as many sets as I'd hoped for at release.
4. Classes are all hybrids? Was cool grouping with folks. Didnt have to worry about getting a healer. I was pleasantly suprised my Rogue could fight on the frontlines, have good range leadout skills, and you get some skills from Magic discipline from what I could tell. Only thing was I wished they gave Tricksters even more range skills more early on
5. PeP is their little death penalty system. It's not a hardcore one, kind of a soft one like all the rest of the current gens. Sometimes I think even Guild wars is more hardcore the most new games now. But I guess mainstreams hates death penalties so I'll deal I guess
6. Combo system. I like the little spinning wheel. Unfortunately, at Fame 8, you dont get to have a fully decked out wheel. So you dont get a good taste for the spinning wheel til later levels. But the bit I did see I liked bits of it. I liked how you can chain together skills and make powerful combos. My Rogue would Teleport behind a target and backstab for a critical. That was really cool.
Dislikes:
1. Quests. I'm not going to go into much detail. I am hoping they will tighten this part up. All the way up to Fame 8 the quests weren't too my liking.
When it comes out here in the US I plan to check it out. Hoping they will add more beginner quests. Give people more choices. So I'm not going to post many dislikes right now.
And on topic why isn't there more hype-
Yeah, well I think the Developers didn't do a great job hyping their title over here in the US. The activity on the official forums (english) doesn't seem all that active.
So I'm not sure if its due to them not hyping the title or the features of the game is just not catching people
I signed up for beta on their site several months ago.......The problem I had with the game was that it felt like they werent making any progress on it........You got zero information from the website and it felt like the game had been forgotten...Also there was the debacle over who the publisher (if any) would be in the US and it felt like the states were an after thought for this game......TCoS looked great in theory at one time but I lost interest eventually and moved on....Now that it is getting closer to launch I am still keeping an eye on it but it will take alot for me to give this game a look anymore.
If you dont feel like getting Spellborn... then u need a little of this: (to help all you wants all around)...
I was very hyped then I found out actually no I wouldn;t be able to try a ace new game in a couple of days because UK is getting seregrated.
My blog:
I like how leveling is more linear then exponential. It means that 1 on 1, a person around 10 levels difference depends on skill more then gear or level. Even at Max Level you could be prey for a group of level 10's.
The only thing really drawing me off this game is the atmosphere and the graphics. Although its interesting to base a game on European Cartoons, I don't really find it appealing.
Did you try it? What's the problem with combat system? Looks pretty good in videos but you never know until you try for yourself.

Yeah Ive played the game, and no the combat system wasn't hard. I just didn't like how it worked, the fps style combat was cool. I just didn't like how you picked which abilities to use.
Well, the game only launched in certain European countries. All countries served by Acclaim will start Closed Beta testing today, I think, with the launch scheduled in January. So perhaps this is the reason, you got your key. Try it out. It's a nice game.
It's because the game is too different. It's not familiar enough to people. It doesn't have the classic LOTRO elves dwarves humans etc
All I know is that I tried the open beta. Lets just say... the developers had the best intentions. Uhhh well Its the thought that matters. I mean winning isn't everything..... §: You are beautiful, no matter what they say! (off-key). etc etc.
Watch Led Zeppelin, Darkfall Tribute
Watch Johnny Cash, Darkfall Tribute
It is simply because it will never be anything more than a niche game and niche games tend to hide well. Personally, I don't like it. I don't have the reflexes to play games that are based around twitch mechanics, but I do wish them well.
They had some exceptionally good stories early on, stories that worked like the old, make a choice and goto page x books that I loved as a kid, but for me the combat is a killer, unfortunately as I liked the other aspects of the game.
That trailer is a hoax... it's not even listed on their official website. Someone wants to bring this game down, but won't keep me away from it. If you want an innovative and actualy working (read as not broken whole the freaking time) then get this one.
Hype is bad. Hype causes people to have expectations. Expectations almost always lead to people being let down and dissapointed. Even the highest quality titles suffer greatly from hype and expectations.
Free play isnt till 5th of december and only for the Europe countries cause acclaim doenst do it for the US side, they block the IP's. The game is good and fresh and something for the player that doesnt want to hit 1.2.3. kill.dead ooohhh loloookkk ubergear
Does that mean UK does not get a trial as well?
Maybe you should read the Acclaim site before you start making misleading statements. Here is the quote from Acclaim:
The Spellborn game client will be completely free to download and install, and will feature the special Free to Play zone with no time restrictions (only level limit).
That is regarding the US release. The US closed beta starts the same day as the launch of the game in the EU (excluding the UK), and the game will be released in the US by Acclaim with the same play model as the EU had. This information is all freely available at this link on Acclaim's website:
http://spellborn.acclaim.com/
The UK, Australia, New Zealand and South America are territories that Acclaim is publishing the game in, so they will have the same schedule for beta and release as the US according to the link above.
They sold us a half-baked Fail-sauced pizza.
