Darkfall so special, why?

    Why make this so complicated?

Darkfall is special and hyped because it is not the same game that we have been seeing for the last 3 years or so.

True it is near the same game that we saw 9 years ago but because since WoW came out we have pretty much had a bunch of crappy attempts at copying and beating WoW that the old is new again.

Darkfall is hyped because there are alot of gamers, no not millions but 100 thousands i would say, that are tired of what MMOs have turned in to and are excited about a game that actually looks like it will take us back to the days of UO, AC and yes EQ. (If you group EQ and WoW together you should be punched in the face, not really but i think you get my point)

    End of story.

Trust me i am one of those players tired of today mmos but all this over no real gameplay vids, no real presentation of combat,  mean NOTHING

That is what is really funny to me, just look at warhammer event had nice setup for open rvr and idea and what it turned into, not to mention darkfall that didnt even release decent gameplay vid yet but will be released by the end of this year? Just redicolous

this game is special because many want a game where crafting, economics, grouping and teamwork is meaningful.

Because i have been playing UO for more then 8 years now, and return to it all the time because i can't stand the Lvl grind in other games + UO got so much freedom in what you want to do and  what you don't want to do.

Because this game could very well be an improved UO!

Not trying to bash just you, but this reasoning is ridicoulus. So, WAR did a very nice event for release and rvr and all that hooey, and it failed.

So, in order for DF not to fail, it has to do an even bigger and better event? I don't get this.

Or maybe is it that marketing doesn't matter with how good a game is?

I hear the skeptics say every single day about how they don't advertize, they aren't hyping their game...

...when they themselves talk about how the other games that had this sort of marketing failed.

...when the same sites and media that the skeptics would like to review DF where overhyping those "failed" games.

(Btw I'm sure that if TTH or IGN or whatever gave a positive (p)review on df, they would automaticaly branded as fanboys).

Special as simple as you are not told what to do, where to go and what to get. This decision is up to you.

Also, no hard-coded artificially stuff to tell that you are better than some and worst than others (rock/paper/scizors). What tells who is better or worst is how you develop your characters (instead of a pre-programmed development advancement where you only have to reach the top - aka leveling).

You are free to choose what to do, where to go, who to kill (even able to kill your best friends and I love this part).

Do you need more thant that to make a game special?

It's not special, since there are other sandbox mmo's in development and theres EVE and i don't think DFO is gonna reach the success of EVE . Perhaps , who knows, but first i want to play the game how it is , then i say about it unlike the idiotic trolls here or the extreme fanboys who can't take any CONSTRUCTIVE critism.

It is not special because of this:

    Earth rise

Fallen earth ( well hybride but hey, that doesn't say it sucks)

    Mortal online

    Upcoming world of darkness

    Lego universe

Jumpgate Evolution( is this sandbox or hybride)

Well this are the big sandbox games in development , who have a good chance on releasing ( hopefully )  And probably not all of these are gonna create a decent success, there is a good chance that there are mmo's of these that can fail or not succeed , just like darkfall online.

That's the argument why DFO isn't revolutionary or special because all those elements like sieging , ships etc. are already been used before. It is evolutionary but the same can be said for world of warcraft. It took the good out of most mmo's ( the mmo's that are themepark of course)   and DFO is taking the good out of mmo's  that have the sandbox element in them ( UO,EVE, sieges of DAOC and L2 , shadbowbane etc.)

See, all the extremists saying it is the second coming of christ are dreaming  because mortal online and earth rise are just as unique and maybe lego universe is gonna be even more unique then most mmo's. Who knows , but saying revolutionary or special is just plain wrong. It's a fact people, it is an evolution if it succeeds.

    playing: EVE ONLINE
Waiting for Earthrise, FE, bioware mmo, guild wars 2, DFO , mortal online , the chronicles of spellborn

Well IMHO what makes Darkfall so special is the fact that we, the fans of MMO , think it is GOING to be special. IT may not be, but only time will tell.

I dont care if it's sandbox or catbox as long as I can play a MMO that is not a rinse and repeat of the crud that as one preson said, seem to be  copies and variants of WoW.

Flame it? no, Troll it? no Wait for it? YES!

Yeah I can't believe it managed to spawn an Anti-DarkFall cult Either. Can you believe these Rabid Froth& Foaming haters preaching to everyone they will burn for following DarkFall lol. They seem to be trying to save everyones soul lol.

    To all the hater's,

Taking a toy away from a five year old is the same thing  we are running into here! Troll's and the I have just one question group, are just mad cause they are not in beta or the game has not released! They have nothing better to do but bide there time crying about when it is gonna come out. Spoiled brats the lot of them! I hate the graphics, I hate the videos, does this game exsist? I probably went through 100 threads saying the same thing. Fact: Troll or fanboi you have no game to play that is why you are here!

I'm a PVE player, but right now I'd play any new game that would get me out of "quest hell".  I am so, so, so tired of loading up with 15 or 20 mundane quests and going about my laundry list of repetitive tasks.

If Darkfall promises a game with an immersive and harsh world, a game that can get the adrenaline pumping, and is well polished, then I will give it a try.

Even if it is PVP oriented.

    An advice.

    1. Buy DMoMM

    2. Play multiplayer

    3. Imagine this in a giant world with more spell and gear diversity, mounts, owning cities, ships etc.

    4. ??????

    5. Profit

Videos don't and can't prove shit because for instance DMoMM's and Oblivion's animations look pretty strange too. It's because your character's torso, hands and legs movement is all seperate and not just one big animation like in WoW.

I was pretty happy that DMoMM multiplayer seemed to me pretty similar to what the DF videos looked like. But tere's no way to know what the game will be like until you try it yourself. I prefer to be optimistic.

What's the purpose of you posting if you think the game is going to fail? Because you don't...Trolling, Aye? I can only speak for myself and the reasons I'm keeping a eye on the game is... UO meets Oblivion/ Mount & Blade with a skill system with freedom. I have my doubts because we haven't seen really nothing about the game and my other concern is that the servers will be dead after people realize that open pvp is way different than they thought. Felucca remember that? I was running around trying to pvp anything in the ghost town.

My predictions is that they will open a different server type when people start complaining that they don't like ffa pvp and then the whole ffa pvp server will be dead and I'll be back to the ghost town again...  If you look at most of the people hyped about the game have never played early UO or any other ffa pvp so you know what happens next, Complain,Complain and Complain some more about being camped and looted. Oh yeah.. Let me answer your question.. Because it's bringing something back that was the best till EA screwed it up a feeling of a open world with a real economy and FREEDOM!!! to do what you want. Hopefully it will work out but I have my doubts till I see more and it might be another DnL who knows..

    Here's a thought for you..

UO didn't take off until POST Trammel.. when it wasn't FFA PvP..

I don't think DF will eventually release a Non-PvP server.. as that's sort of the point of the game.   People want the freedom.. but.. not really.. There was another Sandbox game that was released a while ago..  the Saga of Ryzom.. right?  And that didn't garnish a huge following.. So.. the demand for a huge FFA sandbox pvp game.. isn't really there... (well, EVE has 300k subs.. but.. eh)..

    Currently playing Real Life..

If you look at the graph here you can see that UO was slowly rising in subscription numbers even before the Renaissance expansion was released in April 2000.  It was almost at 200k subscribers before the expansion came out.  I wouldn't say gaining 50-60k subscribers post Trammel when the game was still steadily increasing in subscription numbers before Trammel is "taking off".

Saga of Ryzom was a joke.  Just because a game is a sandbox environment does not mean people looking for the next great sandbox MMO will be instantly drawn to it.  Just because it doesn't have levels does not automatically make it an appealing game.

That's like asking why all level based games are not as successful as WoW?  That's just silly.

I would also say EvE is in a totally different genre then UO or Darkfall.   I played it for a hour and wanted to drive a screwdriver through my brain I was so bored.  I never felt that during the years that I played UO.

I think so too. Hopefully there won't be any carebear servers. If the devs try to please everybody, it's going to be another fail. There are so many carebear MMOs out there, why we need another WoW rehash is beyond me.
