Would anyone be interested in sending me a friend referal. Although I am pretty sure I will be purchasing this game the beggining of next month (budgeting my finances and what-not) I'd really like to try this game for an ultimatum in decision. I've put it off for four years and now that  alot of great things and changes I've been made to the game I am very interested.

Its a really nice game worth playing :D

  • Ive heard it takes a very long time to catch up with the high level community, is it a very desolate low level region, are they welcoming to new players, and would I reach the large pvp battles within 6 months?

yes they are welcome to new players, it is a very desolate low level region, and if you are determined and dont mind the grind you can reach large pvp battles withing 2-3 months.

  • I don't mind grinding, i do mind grinding alone though.  Are there groups to be found?

  • MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196

Groups are easy to find. Even easier if you are in a clan. Just look for a clan that does alot of grouping and join them.

  • that's reassuring.  Are there any tips you can give in class selection/race selection.  Is there any particular class the community tends to be short on, or one that you wouldn't reccomend as a first character because of learning curve?

  • MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196

What kind of class do you like to play? Do you like playing ranged which would include Archers and Mages or do you like to play melee which are classes that use Swords, Axes and Blunts. Also do you want to be a class that can Heal or Buff a party?

  • isurusisurus Member Posts: 396

If you "mind grinding alone" then I recommend you start by looking at melee and support classes. Nukers/archers/summoners are more solo-oriented in PVE.

No class has a steep learning curve although some tend to level dramatically faster than others.

Most all classes are wanted by clans except dwarfs. Support classes are particularly sought out.

But like Korvenus said, what kind of char do you like to play?

  • My favorite MMO characters have been my Everquest Shaman and my World of Warcraft Warlock, and my RF Hidden Soldier.  I did a little snooping around the Lineage classes, i thought that the trickster seemed interesting, the summoners each seemed interesting, and that the support classes also did.  I think that archery, summoning, or healing would be my prefered roll.  If the archers and summoners are mostly about soloing though maybe I would prefer healing (though im guessing that is the archtype you were talking about when you said some level more slowly).

  • I was just sifting through some other posts which seem to depict as Lineage II as disgustingly infested with bots, and a game where everyone buys gold...

    How true is this?

  • isurusisurus Member Posts: 396

    I don't play Kamael so I can't comment on Arbalester/Trickster.

The deal with nukers/summoners/archers is that they tend to level noticeably faster solo than in a party. L2's grind is all about killing mobs rapidly. Nukers/archers kill mobs faster because they don't have to run up to a mob to kill it. Melee classes have to group up and kill bigger mobs to get that kind of XP. All classes benefit greatly from being in the perfect party, but that rarely happens unless you are in a very large/friendly/active clan.

NCsoft seems to be pushing summoners out of solo and into parties with skills like summon friend, party cubics, summon party buffs and the reduction in XP penalty incurred from using a summon. Especially Warlock and Elemental Summoner, not so much Phantom Summoner.

Btw, Necromancers are nukers, Dark Avengers are tanks, and Warsmiths are dwarfs. Just because each of these classes gets a summon doesn't make them summoners.

As for the level slowly comment, it comes down to this: the PVE grind in L2 is all about killing mobs fast fast fast. Generally speaking, the less DPS a class has or contributes to a party, the slower it levels. For example, contrast dagger classes with tanks. Daggers wear light armor but hit hard and fast. Tanks wear heavy armor and can withstand massive punishment, but don't hit very hard. Daggers tend to level much faster than tanks. Similarly, Shilen Elders have very offense-oriented buffs and level quickly (easy to find a PVE party that prefers +offense). Elven Elders have defense-oriented buffs and level slowly (hard to find a PVE party that prefers +defense).

But don't think that tanks and healers are useless. Defense is essential in raids, some mobs/areas require specific defensive tactics, and defense is very important in PVP.

    How true is this?

100% true, but I am hesitant to grind my "L2's economy is fundamentally broken" axe right now. Gracia 2 was recently released, Gracia 1 was just a few months before that, the GMs went on a massive banning spree last month, have made claims to investigate any in-game transaction over 200m, we recently had a Thanksgiving event, and a Christmas event should be coming up soon. All these things stir up the economy so I'll wait until the dust settles before I draw conclusions.

I will say that L2's RMT/bot problem has always been huge, and if you're a veteran of western MMOs like WOW and EQ then it may come as a shock when you first realize the symbiotic relationship between real players and adena farmers. But I won't get in to it here. There is evidence that NC is finally taking steps to correct this problem, and L2 has never been easier for a new player to get in to.
