Atlantica Online - An Actually Innovative MMORPG

I spent 6 days in a row playing Atlantica Online recently, and it really is an innovative MMORPG.  It  has Japanese-RPG style combat, which has an almost turn-based strategy feel to it.

Combat in this game feels actually kind of tactical, which is a very refreshing change from the usual button-spammy feel of the combat of most MMOG's.

I really feel like this is the first major innovative MMORPG in some time.  The combat is executed brilliantly.

There are also tournaments, sort of Guild Wars-style.  I've played 15+ MMOGs and as of late never for more than 4 hours before knowing for sure that whatever the game was wasn't original in any way.  Atlantica Online is very refreshing.

Good for you in finding a game you enjoy...now why not go shill your game in the Atlantica Forums?

Perhaps I am rude...but I am gettin sick of ppl comming in here shilling their third rate, graphically challanged, crappy combat, and unimaginative grind quest games.

No fan of Asian free-to-play here, BUT I jumped on to ARGOS, their newest server to keep my distance from an overly crowded one, and have been playing this game for a week.

I'm a product of UO and EQ and have not found a mmo that is as thoughtful about the merge of rts and mmo as this game is. Im very pleasently surprised at the level of detail with the tactical aspect of combat in this game, both PvE and PvP; well. done.  You have to actually think about how you not only want to develop your band of mercenaries, your toon/party, but the combat makes you think on your feet as you manage to defeat a group of mobs while shifting your formation to compensate for misfortune at time.

The player-driven economy is excellent I think and I find even the lest likely to sell items sell very quickly...players are actually playing the market and utilizing the market to advance their craft. Crafting is very detail oriented, and broad, but not to the point of being mundane or micro-management. What I love is that I can have a work-load that crafts as I battle - a great use of on-line time.

City ownership, skills management, yada yada yada.  The only thing that is hard for me and others is that character customization is not as unique and individualized as modern US mmo's, but I've been one to say that many modern mmos are nothing more than window-dressing in disguise, so I can live with it.

    Im still enjoynig myself.

Gotta say I agree Cik.  People may have a knee-jerk reaction to say that the game couldn't be good for whatever reason before actually trying it, but anyone who tries it will know that this game is quality.

It's understandable to pre-evaluate the game based on the track record of other games, but the post in which you do so isn't exactly of an editorial non-biased nature.  But these forums aren't exactly a bedrock of happy vibes most of the time anyway.  The point is, the game is great and is totally different from the standard MMOG. But just saying that here might end you up in the middle of someone else's bad day.

    I like pie.  Mmm hmm.

Hmm, they moved the post.  My mistake, didn't realize general discussion wasn't for discussing new games.

The mods dont get a kick-back from Atlantica so their grief the potential community by placing a post like yours in a black hole.

  • Cik_AsalinCik_Asalin Member Posts: 3,033

Or I should say they also grief the potential for a community...I'd suggest repostnig your message on the LFGame forum and news forum.  So I say that figuratively - it's a shame that this game doesnt have visibility to a forum, but you have to actually dig for it ... meaning its not showcased on the left of the main forums page like others are.

I've never really liked the forums here.  They're run well for making MMORPG.com money, but in general they're a poor experience for the end user.

Their game list on the other hand is a very useful feature of the site.  But MMORPG.com seems to be run rather unprofessionally.

It's worth considering too, that a flame war on a forum draws traffic, and traffic equals value for a site.  Probably the reason why these forums aren't moderated well.

Of course I'm posting here both to share info on games, and to promote my own sites in my sig..   It's just kind of the way of the internet.  There are plenty of forums around for sane, enjoyable discourse between people, these forums definitely are not one of them.

I haven't posted here in awhile and being hit by that flame post brought back bad memories from when I did.

Now, making money running a website while making the experience enjoyable for whoever comes along, that's a different story.  But this site generally gives me chills whenever I visit it.  Too many unhappy people, and the mods do nothing about it.  Makes me not want to visit much.  Anyway, I'm rambling, so I'll ramble on.

General forums are for discussing games in general...your post was obviously directed towards/about praising this game. This is why they have different boards to discuss different games. Has nothing to do with "kickbacks" , as most every topic in the 'General' section that are specifically about one certain game are moved to the proper forums.

Ive never seen a game where the economy is this good.... LIke a previous post said you can list an item you dont think will sell and it sells very quickly.......I have literally had times where stuff was selling as quickly as I was listing it......What I find funny about AO is that so many people who dont know anything about it automatically classify it as another f2p asian grinder when really it is nothing like any of the games they are comparing it to........This game has alot of innovation and what we are seeing is that there are definitely people that cannot handle that......

Umm... This may have escaped your attention but... look up at the top of this page.. This is an Atlantica Online forum... So it's perfectly appropriate for a person to be here posting their views about it... positive or negative.

The better question is, if you don't like the game why are you here reading its forums?

Are you one of those people who likes to go out of your way to be offended/annoyed so you can get on a soap box and rant about it?

yeah! for me it is the 1st  international strategic time based game, when you play it you must have a lots of load of strategy specially when competing with players its kinda similar to chess though what move are you going to make or are you willing to sacrfice and thier checkmate,  dozens of strategy, for me atlantica is created like a chess play although its  3d animation game but well done! atlantica i hope this game improves next year.

and more gamers will dig it!

what really cool also for me is the market no need to find someone or whisper someone to force to buy, sell and trade your items to another player, just place the item in the market by selling it and rate it 1st how much most online players sell it and register by typing how much amount do you sell and wait until other players purchase the item your selling then check your bank and there it is. fast selling

    i mean any items do.

yah i like the idea of the market.. hahaha easy to sell your items and buy items in a fair manner.. you can set your own rate depending on how you want it... you can also buy items at a cheaper price... thats it.. i use the market almost everydayt and when i get back, my items were already sold.. easy money.. hahaha no need to sell to other players..
