I had read that this game was a RAM hog but tested it myself. When I started into beta, I had 512 DDR RAM in my CPU and found the game continuously crashed until I placed a 2nd 512 stck of RAM in my CPU. I know this is beta, but for those who are questioning the system specs 512 RAM will not be enough. I have a slower processor AMD Athon 2000 but a top of the line GeForce 6800 GT Video Card and I felt my computer in it's present state was not good enough to play this game well, though again it is beta and therefore, all judgments are based on basically a skewed look at the game. And of course, well is in the eye of the beholder which to me is defined by, how well you like the graphics to look and how smooth you want the game to play. For me, I prefer my graphics settings high. Once I turned down or off some of the graphic settings the game ran much better as well as once I got off Refuge Island which is the beginning newbie territory.
I do like the game so far and feel it has a lot of potential. I have only been on the game for one day. The day I signed on they had a major patch and had just added a new server with over 1000 unscreened beta testers, so hopefully, the game developers will be tweaking the game and their servers so on release will be smooth.

hmm
I only have 512 RAM in the computer that's testing the EQ2 and the only time I need to reboot the system is after about 6 hours of continous gameplay.
my processor is 2.3 with a geforce 4600 128

I haven't been getting booted off this morning still have the 1024 gig of RAM in the CPU. After reading the other post I changed out my new video card to my old video card to see if it was the new card causing the problems. The old card is a nVidia GeForce 4 4800 Ti with 128 mgs of RAM. The video card makes little difference. The game ran slightly smoothier on the nVidia Geforce 6800 GT, but the graphics are no better or worse on either card from what I could tell.
I am really confused by the quality of the graphics as I thought this game was suppose to have the ultimate grahics and even on high and balanced settings the grapihics are not clear and look slightly pixelated. I was using a top of the line video card before I made the switch back and have a brand new flat screen CRT flat screen Viewsonic A91f+ monitor with a special setting for games and I could not get the game to look good. Again, I know this is beta and I am still adjusting the settings as I am new to beta.
Basically though, the game is fun and has potential.
Just a suggestion/question...
Since you were swapping out video cards, were you making sure that the old video card driver was deleted from your computer? If not, you might have been suffering from a driver conflict. I have had problems with new video cards in the past, and it was usually too many drivers or outdated drivers.
Once you get only one driver, and the proper most updated driver for your card, if you still have problems...or if you already had all this. Don't know what to tell you, other than sorry, looks like you wasted some cash on a new card.

My buddy's game runs just fine with 512mb of RAM. It doesn't look as good as it would if it had 1gig.. but it runs great.
256mb is pushing it though.

No problem with returning the card. They switched it out for me. I got the settings figured out and the game is looking excellent. I still have the 1024 gig of RAM in there and feel after everything I read, it is a must. I did redo the video drivers when I switched out the video card and I also tested the DirectX 9.0c to make sure that it was functioning correctly. I am still using the nVidia Geforce 4 4800 Ti card without any problems.
Just for information, I set the settings in the EQ2 file on my hard drive to medium setting but the performance settings within the game on high quality. I have the flora, water and lighting turned way down or off. There are so settings within the game to manipulate it is rather confusing, but good as it allows for many different CPU set ups.
I will be very interested to see how this game will develop as it shows alot of promise.
